UMNO salesmen on the roll peddling ‘minyak Najib' in anticipation of Bossku's GE16 comeback

THE light at the end of UMNO tunnel is getting bigger and brighter following a court ruling that gave Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak 'very happy news'. And the news that gladden the cockle of his heart was the decision of the Kuala Lumpur High Court on June 20 to grant him a discharge not amounting to acquittal (DNAA) over the SRC International money laundering case. Elated Najib's diehard fans, supporters and devotees must be beating the kompang feverishly now to celebrate what they see as his inevitable return to public life. To them, the DNAA ruling is the first salvo fired to get the ball rolling for the Najib comeback. If by some miracle, he walks out of prison a freeman (assuming that all the criminal cases against him are thrown out), the campaign to reinvent him will gather steam. A likely scenario will see all UMNO divisions closing ranks and unanimously passing resolutions to make their Bossku their president again. And that means current UMNO chief Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will have to bow out to make way for his former master and most probably play second fiddle again in the Umno hierarchy. Has Bossku repented? But who wants to see the return of Najib to the political frontline? If you check the public pulse, the reading will be very high, indicating that the country doesn't want to experience yet again the tainted politics of a disgraced leader. Nevertheless, the UMNO propaganda machine will go into high gear to push their born-again standard-bearer to lead the faltering party to revive its glorious past. The promotion of Najib will be a highly polished act that leverages all the tricks of salesmanship to 'sell' this 'new product' around the country. How will they portray the new man? In this makeover, they will want to erase the stigma of a criminal record by fallaciously arguing the DNAA ruling is proof Najib is innocent. Never mind he is not acquitted. Full acquittal will come later – or so they would like to think. Oh, goes the old storyline, Najib is sincerely sorry for the sordid events that happened under his watch but which are all the doings of other perpetrators. Every day behind bars he expresses his ardent wish to serve his country again and fight corruption tooth and nail. Look, he has been a 'model prisoner' and didn't cause any trouble which goes to show he still loves his country to bits. Never mind he was not a model leader in his heyday. A second chance for Bossku? Give him another chance and you will see how he will expertly steer the ship of state to better days. Then to add more urgency, the UMNO troops will resort to the time-honoured practice of organising rallies to press home the message that only Najib can save the floundering Umno ship. As the 16th General Election (GE16) approaches, strange things will happen: discarded politicians trying their luck again, suspended party members suddenly showing up on the radar screen, and even an ancient leader dreaming of saving the country again. But among all the political detritus, Najib stands out as the one who might be able to win over the vast majority of UMNO members to support his bid for another shot at the seat of power. All UMNO 'salesmen' will be knocking on the doors of voters to peddle minyak Najib which they trumpet, is guaranteed to revive the country. Soon, if their campaign succeeds, Bossku will be back on your home TV screens. But the snag is – at the mere mention of Najib – all the doors will slam shut on the faces of UMNO marketers. The minyak Najib stinks to high heaven. – June 24, 2025 Phlip Rodrigues is a retired journalist. The views expressed are solely of the author and do not necessarily reflect those of Focus Malaysia. BN still in talks with GRS, others on Sabah polls

KOTA KINABALU: Barisan Nasional (BN) is in discussions with various parties about working together in the coming Sabah election, including with the ruling Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition. BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the coalition wanted to have more allies than enemies, which was why it continued to meet other parties. "No door should be opened too wide, nor should any door be shut too tightly," he told a press conference after officiating the Sabah Women Empowerment programme today. "In other words, negotiations are ongoing, and we hope for positive outcomes. However, details cannot be finalised at this stage because the State Assembly has not yet been dissolved. "When the time comes, we will conclude all the meetings and negotiations we are currently holding," said Ahmad Zahid, who is also Deputy Prime Minister. He was asked about the progress of BN's talks with other parties ahead of the Sabah election, which must be held this year. So far, BN and Pakatan Harapan have confirmed that they would work together in the polls. GRS, on the other hand, has expressed its intent to maintain cooperation with PH but said it was ready to go it alone should negotiations with other parties fall through. Tensions between Sabah BN and GRS have been running high after Sabah Umno chief, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, said they would not work with GRS in the polls. Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid declined to comment on the number of seats BN was seeking to contest in the polls, though he confirmed the coalition would be using its "dacing" logo. Also present were Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki and Sabah Umno chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.

High Court orders transfer of land title from Dr M and three other trustees to Umno

KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court here has ordered that a 9,723sq m parcel of land in the capital, previously registered in the names of Tun Musa Hitam, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the late Tun Daim Zainuddin and the late Tan Sri Sanusi Junid as trustees, be transferred to Umno. Justice Roz Mawar Rozain made the order on Tuesday (June 24) after Umno's counsel, Datuk Mohd Hafarizam Harun, informed the court that the applicant (Umno) and the respondent (the Federal Territories Land and Mines Office Registrar) had agreed to resolve the matter by way of a consent judgment. "Accordingly, the court records the parties' consent judgment, and the transfer of title is to be effected within 30 days,' Justice Roz Mawar said during the proceedings, which were also attended by co-counsel for Umno, Norhazira Abu Haiyan. According to the draft consent order obtained by the media, ownership of the property is to be transferred and registered in the name of Umno, together with all rights, interests and title therein, under Section 9(b) of the Societies Act 1966. On March 6, Umno secretary of works Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan filed an originating summons seeking a court order for the transfer of title to Grant 78154, Lot 40, Section 51, Bandar Kuala Lumpur, registered in the names of four trustees, to the party under Clause 27.1 of the United Malays National Organisation Constitution and Section 9 of the Societies Act 1966. Umno also sought an order directing the Land Registrar or Land Administrator to effect the transfer by entering a memorial in the title document. In his supporting affidavit, Sumali stated that under Form Schedule 17, an application for approval to transfer the land dated Oct 27, 2015, together with a statutory declaration dated Oct 22, 2015, was executed and affirmed by all four trustees. He further affirmed that two of the trustees, Sanusi and Daim, had since passed away, on March 9, 2018, and Nov 13, 2024, respectively. According to Sumali, the then office bearers of Umno, namely the president, deputy president and secretary-general, had agreed via a statutory declaration dated Dec 10, 2015, to have the property re-registered in the party's name. He added that a letter from the Federal Territories Land and Mines Office dated Dec 28, 2015, confirmed that the Federal Territory Kuala Lumpur Land Working Committee had approved the proposed transfer of title from the trustees to Umno. However, the subsequent attempt to effect the transfer via Form 14A, dated April 25, 2016, submitted by Umno's solicitors to the Federal Territories Land and Mines Office was rejected on May 18, 2017. He said the stated reason for the rejection was a discrepancy between the names listed on the land title and the corresponding names on the identity documents. – Bernama
