Malay Mail07-05-2025

KUALA LUMPUR, May 7 — The Zeekr 7X is expect to launch in Malaysia on Q3 2025 but here's your chance to get an early preview this coming weekend. This is Zeekr's premium 5-seater SUV which would take on the likes of the Porsche Macan EV, BMW iX2 and the Mini Countryman.
The Zeekr 7X is officially making its first local debut at the Malaysia Autoshow 2025 that's happening from May 9 to 15, 2025 at MAEPS Serdang. The new EV will be on display at their booth where you can check it out in person.

The Zeekr 7X is a premium, fully electric D-segment SUV that's built on Geely's 800V Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform. In China, there are 3 variants which include a RWD model with a 75kWh 800V LFP Golden battery with 605km CLTC-rated range and it supports 10-80 per cent DC fast charging in just 10.5 minutes.
Stepping up a notch is the Long Range RWD model which has a larger CATL-sourced 100kWh 800V NMC battery that boasts up to 780km of CLTC-rated range. It can do 10-80 per cent DC charging in just 15 minutes.
Both RWD variants of the Zeekr 7X get a single motor pushing 310kW (416hp) and 440Nm of torque, and it can do 0-100km/h in 5.8 seconds.
Meanwhile, the range topping AWD version gets a twin-motor setup that produces a combined 475kW (637hp) and 710Nm of torque. This performance variant can do 0-100km/h in just 3.8 seconds. Similar to the Long Range RWD model, it also gets a 100kWh 800V NMC battery from CATL but the CLTC-rated range is slightly shorter at 705km. DC fast charging from 10-80 per cent also takes 15 minutes.

The Zeekr 7X also supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) which includes a power outlet located in the boot. In China, this EV also supports Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) functionality, allowing the Zeekr 7X to DC charge another EV up to 60kW.
Depending on spec and configuration, you can get the Zeekr 7X with powered doors and there's also a Smart B-pillar with integrated camera and touch screen. On the inside, the China-spec SUV gets a Zeekr Sound Pro Premium Audio system that features 21 speakers that produces 2160W of peak power with Dolby Atmos.
The Zeekr 7X tech feature list continues with a large 16″ 3.5K mini-LED display on the centre, a 13.02″ digital instruyment cluster and a 36.21″ AR head-up display (HUD). To pamper your Very Important Passenger at the rear, there's also a powered reclining sofa seat with massaging feature, complete with a fold down table and built-in tablet display behind the front passenger seat.
Another neat party trick is its dynamic display below the EV's clamshell hood cover. It has 1800 LEDs that can be customised with text and various patterns.
In China, the Zeekr 7X is priced from CNY 229,900 (about RM140,630) for the base RWD model with a smaller 75kWh LFP battery and up to CNY 269,900 (about RM165,100) for the range topping AWD version with the larger 100kWh NMC battery.
We don't have any indicative Malaysian pricing details yet but we are guessing that the Zeekr 7X could be priced anywhere between RM220,000 to RM280,000. — SoyaCincau

China says it will speed up rare earths exports to EU firms

China suspended exports of a wide range of rare earths and related magnets last month. (EPA Images pic) SHANGHAI : China is willing to accelerate the examination and approval of rare earth exports to European Union firms and will also deliver a verdict on its trade investigation of EU brandy imports by July 5, its commerce ministry said today. Price commitment consultations between China and the EU on Chinese-made electric vehicles exported to the EU have also entered a final stage but efforts from both sides are still needed, according to a statement on the Chinese commerce ministry's website. The issues were discussed between Chinese commerce minister Wang Wentao and EU trade commissioner Maros Sefcovic in Paris on Tuesday, according to the statement. The comments mark progress on matters that have vexed China's relationship with the European Union over the past year. Most recently, China's decision in April to suspend exports of a wide range of rare earths and related magnets has upended the supply chains central to automakers, aerospace manufacturers, semiconductor companies and military contractors around the world. The ministry said China attached great importance to the EU's concerns and 'was willing to establish a green channel for qualified applications to speed up the approval process'. Commerce minister Wang during the meeting 'expressed the hope that the EU will meet us halfway and take effective measures to facilitate, safeguard and promote compliant trade in high-tech products to China', according to the statement. Chinese anti-dumping measures that applied duties of up to 39% on imports of European brandy – with French cognac bearing the brunt – have also strained relations between Paris and Beijing. The brandy duties were enforced days after the European Union took action against Chinese-made electric vehicle imports to shield its local industry, prompting France's President Emmanuel Macron to accuse Beijing of 'pure retaliation'. The Chinese duties have dented sales of brands including LVMH's Hennessy, Pernod Ricard's Martell and Remy Cointreau. Beijing was initially meant to make a final decision on the brandy duties by January, but extended the deadline to April and then again to July 5. China's commerce ministry said today that French companies and relevant associations had proactively submitted applications on price commitments for brandy to China and that Chinese investigators had reached an agreement with them on the core terms. Chinese authorities were now reviewing the complete text on those commitments and would issue a final announcement before July 5, it said. In April, the European Commission said the EU and China had also agreed to look into setting minimum prices of Chinese-made electric vehicles instead of tariffs imposed by the EU last year. China's commerce ministry said the EU had also proposed exploring 'new technical paths' relating to EVs, which the Chinese side was now evaluating.

Issues over Petros nothing to do with Petronas layoffs, says Fadillah

Deputy prime minister Fadillah Yusof said Petronas is relooking its entire operation because of the decline in crude oil prices. KUCHING : Petroliam Nasional Bhd's (Petronas) move to trim its workforce stems from global challenges and is not connected to the national oil firm's issues with Petroleum Sarawak Bhd (Petros). Deputy prime minister Fadillah Yusof said Petronas's restructuring plan is necessary amid the decline in crude oil prices. He said he plans to meet with the company to get more details of the exercise. 'That (the decline in crude oil prices) is why Petronas has to relook its entire operation. I'm planning a meeting with them to get a briefing on the matter and to ensure that the number of layoffs can be reduced, if not avoided,' he told reporters attending the Aidiladha sacrificial event at Taman Hussein Mosque here today. On June 5, Petronas president and CEO Tengku Muhammad Taufik Aziz said the national oil firm is cutting 10% of its workforce to cope with challenging operating conditions, particularly because of falling crude prices. He said the number of staff involved in the downsizing process stands at about 5,000, and those affected will be notified in stages next year. On May 21, the federal and state governments reached an understanding on matters involving Petronas and Petros. According to the joint declaration, Petronas will continue its functions, activities, responsibilities and obligations entrusted to the company in Malaysia under the Petroleum Development Act 1974 and its regulations. Any agreements and arrangements between Petronas and its subsidiaries with third parties for the purpose of liquefied natural gas sales from upstream operations through to LNG exports to foreign parties remain unaffected. A media statement by the Prime Minister's Office following the joint declaration said all relevant federal and state laws relating to gas distribution in Sarawak are to co-exist and be respected by all parties.

MACC to file application to forfeit Ilham Tower

MACC seized Ilham Tower yesterday for the second time. (Website pic) PETALING JAYA : The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission will file an application to forfeit the Ilham Tower in Kuala Lumpur next week, says its chief, Azam Baki. Azam said the forfeiture application would be filed under Section 55 or 56 of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (Amla), Utusan Malaysia reported. Section 56 of Amla provides for the forfeiture of property where there is no prosecution, if a High Court judge is satisfied that the asset was the subject-matter or evidence relating to the commission of an offence under the Act, the proceeds of an unlawful activity, or the instrumentalities of an offence. MACC first seized the 274m-tall tower owned by the late Daim Zainuddin and his family under the MACC Act in December 2023. It previously said it could seize the tower for up to 18 months pending investigations. Yesterday, it announced it had seized the tower again, this time under Amla. Daim's widow, Naimah Khalid, plans to challenge the seizure in court. Last month, MACC opened eight new investigation papers into 'high-value' assets linked to Daim and his family members after receiving new information from overseas.
