Florida, Georgia to each earn $7.5M for game in Atlanta
May 20 - Florida and Georgia will each receive $7.5 million for staging their rivalry game at Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium in 2026, the Athens Banner-Herald reported Tuesday.
AMB Sports & Entertainment, a company owned by Atlanta Falcons owner and chairman Arthur Blank, is putting up the money, according to information that the newspaper obtained through an open records request.
Known informally as "The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party," the annual clash of the Gators and Bulldogs has been played in Jacksonville, Fla., since 1933.
Florida and Georgia will meet in Jacksonville this season at EverBank Stadium, but the home of the NFL's Jaguars is set to undergo a $1.4 billion renovation project.
The 2027 meeting between the SEC's Bulldogs and Gators will be held at Tampa's Raymond James Stadium before returning to Jacksonville in 2028 (with a contract through 2031).
The City of Jacksonville guarantees a minimum of $10 million to each school in 2028 and 2029 and $10.5 million for 2030 and 2031, according to the Banner-Herald.

June 4 (Reuters) - The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Wednesday is due to take the first steps toward producing new rules on which foreign firms qualify for less stringent investor disclosure requirements, according to a public notice. The public meeting, set for 1 p.m. in Washington, comes a year after a Republican Commissioner Mark Uyeda called for a public comment process on changing the definition of publicly traded foreign firms. He singled out Chinese companies as enjoying easier reporting requirements even when they are solely traded on U.S. stock markets. The commission is due to consider whether to issue a call for public comment on possible new rules, the substance of which the SEC has not yet made public. Spokespeople for the agency and for Uyeda declined to comment. In an address at Harvard last year, Uyeda said companies primarily owned and administered abroad qualified as "foreign private issuers" -- meaning they were only required to file annual reports and occasional market updates, even if they were solely traded on a U.S. stock exchange. A 2024 congressional study indicated nearly 90% of the 265 Chinese firms publicly traded in the U.S. were not listed on stock exchanges elsewhere, according to Uyeda. On the other hand, U.S. firms trading on the same stock exchanges fall under the full scope of American securities laws, including quarterly financial reporting, proxy solicitation rules and prompt disclosure of "material events" such as mergers and the departures of board members, he said at the time. "This issue deserves attention, and the SEC should consider evaluating whether foreign private issuers should be limited to companies whose securities are also listed on a foreign stock exchange," Uyeda said.

June 4 - Ketel Marte and Corbin Carroll both hit a pair of home runs and starting pitcher Zac Gallen pitched seven strong innings to help the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Atlanta Braves 8-3 on Tuesday in the opener of their three-game series. Arizona evened the season series at 2-2 and has won two straight. Marte went 3-for-3 with two walks, three RBIs and lifted his batting average to .294. He clubbed a 445-foot homer into the seats in right field in the first inning and hit a two-run line drive shot into right field in the fourth, both off Atlanta starter Spencer Strider, and has 10 homers. Marte has reached base safely in a season-best 16 games, a streak that includes seven homers and 10 RBIs. Carroll went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs scored. Wake Forest coach apologizes for apparent anti-gay slur
June 3 - Wake Forest baseball coach Tom Walter issued an apology on Tuesday after television cameras caught an apparent homophobic slur during an NCAA regional loss to Tennessee on Monday night. "I am very sorry for my outburst in frustration last night and I recognize the hurt and disappointment it has caused," Walter said in a statement issued by the school. "I own the consequences and I apologize to the University of Tennessee, to Wake Forest University, and the SEC & ACC." Walter, who has coached the Demon Deacons since 2010, added that the "language doesn't reflect my values or the standards of this program." Wake Forest athletic director John Currie said he was "surprised and deeply disappointed" by the incident, which occurred during an 11-5 victory by the Volunteers to win the Knoxville Regional. "I feel badly for those most hurt by such words," Currie said, per ESPN. "This incident ... is completely out of character for him and does not meet the standards of Wake Forest Athletics, Wake Forest University or the Atlantic Coast Conference."
