Falcons delete self-own social-media post

The Falcons (and specifically owner Arthur Blank) aren't fans of reminders of their failure to turn a massive third-quarter lead into a Super Bowl LI win. Usually, it's someone else who reminds the team and/or its fans of the 28-3 futility. This time around, the Falcons did it to themselves. Advertisement Via John Breech of the team posted a photo on Twitter of safety Jessie Bates (No. 3) and cornerback Mike Ford (No. 28). The image was quickly deleted. Arguably, the Falcons should have left it alone. First, the players were configured 3 and 28, not 28 and 3. Second, deleting it makes it a bigger deal. As evidenced by the fact that it became a PFT item. If they hadn't deleted it, we probably wouldn't have decided it was worth a post. Meanwhile, the fact they so quickly deleted the image shows that, more than eight years later, they're still as sensitive about 28-3 as ever.

Georgia, Florida set to earn $7.5 million for playing at neutral site

Georgia, Florida set to earn $7.5 million for playing at neutral site The Georgia-Florida rivalry will take place in Jacksonville in 2025, but in 2026, both teams will travel up to Mercedes-Benz Stadium to continue the World's Largest Cocktail Party. There will be a huge payout for both the Bulldogs and the Gators. According to Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner-Herald, Georgia and Florida will each be earning $7.5 million to play at the Mercedez-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The money will be sent from AMB Sports & Entertainment, the company owned by Arthur Blank that owns and operates the Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta United and Mercedes-Benz Stadium. In 2027, the two rivals will be playing at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay. That is because Jacksonville is undergoing a major stadium renovation worth $1.4 billion. The project is expected to complete in 2028, and Georgia and Florida have an agreement to play at EverBank Stadium until 2031. The Bulldogs will continue their tradition of playing in Mercedes Benz for at least two more seasons. Their 2025 game with Georgia Tech will take place at Mercedes-Benz stadium on Friday, Nov. 28. Kirby Smart will be looking to improve on his 7-4 record in Mercedes-Benz these next few years. Georgia went 2-0 at Mercedes-Benz last season with wins over Clemson and Texas.

Florida, Georgia to each earn $7.5M for game in Atlanta

May 20 - Florida and Georgia will each receive $7.5 million for staging their rivalry game at Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium in 2026, the Athens Banner-Herald reported Tuesday. AMB Sports & Entertainment, a company owned by Atlanta Falcons owner and chairman Arthur Blank, is putting up the money, according to information that the newspaper obtained through an open records request. Known informally as "The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party," the annual clash of the Gators and Bulldogs has been played in Jacksonville, Fla., since 1933. Florida and Georgia will meet in Jacksonville this season at EverBank Stadium, but the home of the NFL's Jaguars is set to undergo a $1.4 billion renovation project. The 2027 meeting between the SEC's Bulldogs and Gators will be held at Tampa's Raymond James Stadium before returning to Jacksonville in 2028 (with a contract through 2031). The City of Jacksonville guarantees a minimum of $10 million to each school in 2028 and 2029 and $10.5 million for 2030 and 2031, according to the Banner-Herald. --Field Level Media

Atlanta Falcons make decision on future of quarterback Kirk Cousins

Kirk Cousins looks set to start the 2025 NFL season as backup quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons, according to reports. But the 36-year-old's wealth of experience means he will be 'the first call' - should another team's quarterback get hurt or should Aaron Rodgers decide to retire. Cousins' future has been the subject of speculation ever since he was benched in favor of rookie Michael Penix Jr. towards the end of last season. He had been linked with a move away from Atlanta and was recently spotted at Chipotle near the Cleveland Browns practice facility. Cousins has made it clear he wants to be a starter and reportedly pleaded with Falcons owner Arthur Blank to release him. But both free agency and the draft have come and gone without Cousins finding a new home - or the Falcons bringing in another quarterback. 'As of right now, it certainly appears Kirk Cousins is set to be their backup quarterback for the 2025 season,' NFL insider Ian Rapoport said. 'Obviously if any team needs a quarterback with starting experience - that would also include the Pittsburgh Steelers if Aaron Rodgers doesn't go there - Cousins would be the first call. 'We're going to be talking about Kirk Cousins all the time this coming preseason, this actual season - every time a quarterback gets hurt, the Falcons are going to be like: "Hello! Look at the guy we got!" 'They could get a potential premium draft pick for a guy who's now their backup. All that conversation is for the future - as of right now, Cousins is at least set in Atlanta.' The 36-year-old signed a $100million guaranteed contract last year, only for Atlanta to draft Penix Jr. No 8 overall just six weeks later. Cousins previously played for the Minnesota Vikings and the then-Washington Redskins.
