Iron Maiden's Original Frontman Dead at 69 After Heartbreaking Health Battle
Paul Mario Day, Iron Maiden's original lead singer, has died at age 69 following a reported battle with cancer. The heavy metal vocalist passed away peacefully at his home in Australia on Tuesday, July 29.
Day made rock history when he became Iron Maiden's first vocalist in December 1975 at just 19 years old.
Though his time with the legendary band was brief, lasting less than a year until October 1976 when he was replaced by Dennis Wilcock, Day's contribution to the early formation of one of metal's most influential acts cannot be understated.
He performed at Iron Maiden's very first concert on May 1, 1976, at St. Nicholas Hall in Poplar, London — an event that marked the birth of a legendary band.
"We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of the great More vocalist Paul Mario Day," his former band More wrote in a Facebook statement. "Paul was a huge part of the NWOBHM from his time in an early version of Iron Maiden, and of course his fantastic performance on the 'Warhead' album."
Following his departure from Iron Maiden, Day continued to make his mark on the British heavy metal scene. In 1980, he formed the band More, which released their debut album Warhead in 1981.
"He was a well-loved figure in British rock music and played many memorable shows, not least the legendary 1981 Monsters of Rock show at Castle Donington with AC/DC, Whitesnake/David Coverdale, as well as tours with Iron Maiden, Def Leppard and many other legendary artists," More added.
Day's career trajectory took him through several notable bands that defined the era. After leaving More before their second album, he briefly fronted Wildfire from 1983 to 1984.
His most commercially successful period came in 1985 when he joined the reformed version of glam rock legends Sweet, working alongside guitarist Andy Scott and drummer Mick Tucker.
Sweet's guitarist also confirmed the tragic news, writing, "Paul Mario Day RIP … PMD was the original singer with IRON MAIDEN and had a stint with the band MORE before joining SWEET. He passed away peacefully at his home in Australia."

Where Was ‘My Oxford Year' Filmed?
My Oxford Year has officially arrived on Netflix, starring Sofia Carson and Corey Mylchreest. The film, based on Julia Whelan's book of the same title, sees ambitious American student Anna (Sofia) jet off to the UK for a year at Oxford University. There, she meets Jamie (Corey), a charming British student teacher, and the encounter changes both their lives. The university acts as the main backdrop for the story, but is it actually filmed in Oxford? Here's everything you need to know. Viewers will be happy to hear that My Oxford Year was actually filmed in Oxford. Some of the university scenes were filmed on location, at Oxford University. Specifically, filming took pklace at Magdalen College, which is one of the constituent colleges that make up the university. The official name of the college is: The President and Scholars of the College of St. Mary Magdalen in the University of Oxford. Other filming locations included St Hugh's College and Hertford College, which are both based in Oxford, while additional scenes were filmed in Windsor. 'It was an honor and joy to dive into Anna's world of dreams, of love, of poetry. To study the great poets that walked the halls of Oxford, and who have since filled our lives with the magic of literature. In 1833, Alfred Tennyson wrote, 'It is better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all.' Two hundred years after Tennyson so beautifully uttered those words, they ring truer than ever—in the halls of Oxford, and within the heart of our film,' Sofia told Netflix's Tudum. 'I have a friend that studied for uni in Oxford, and so there was a period of my life where I was going up and getting the train to Oxford quite frequently,' Corey added. My Oxford Year is available to stream on Netflix.

Meghan Markle's Former BFF Going Through Major Life Change: Report
Meghan Markle's Former BFF Going Through Major Life Change: Report originally appeared on Parade. Jessica Mulroney has reportedly split from her husband of 16 years, Ben Mulroney. On July 29, Page Sixreported the news and said that Jessica, 45, has taken off her wedding ring. "They're split. Jessica seemed sad, but also relieved to have some clarity," a Canadian source told the outlet, while another source said the pair separated "some time ago." A source also confirmed the reported breakup to Us Weekly. In Instagram selfies posted on June 28 and July 24, the Canadian fashion stylist did not appear to be wearing her wedding band. However, Jessica did share a birthday tribute for Ben, 49, on March 12, writing, "Happy belated Birthday Benny! Hope all your wishes come true as well as Bruce Wayne's dream to try my cheesecake. Xx." The former best friend of Meghan Markle also celebrated the pair's wedding anniversary via Instagram with a series of sweet photos on November 17, 2024, admitting that they had forgotten about the special day. "Ok so our wedding anniversary was a slight oversight this year ( ie… we forgot). But the love all year round makes up for it," she wrote. "Which reminds me, how many years has it been @benmulroney? I feel lucky everyday so what's a number?" Jessica and Ben—who works as a radio host and is the eldest son of late former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney—tied the knot in 2008 after having met as teenagers. In a heartfelt 2018 Instagram post, the marketing consultant detailed the pair's love story. "We met when I was 14 years old. He was of course MUCH older. Ben's family moved back from Ottawa to MONTREAL four blocks away from my family's home. We met. We hung out. We kept in touch through so many moves and failed relationships," she wrote. "12 years later, we went on our first date. (thanks to my sister Liz for pushing me to go). It was the best date of my life. 9 months later we were engaged. 9 months after that married. "It was a beautiful wedding (if you were there, highly likely you don't remember it) I was lucky enough to inherit the most wonderful in laws (brothers and sisters included) imaginable. "We had twin boys. Then a little girl. We've worked hard. We've laughed harder. And we will continue to make the most wonderful memories. "I felt like the luckiest girl ten years ago. I feel even luckier now. Ben, you are and will always be, my everything. Hopefully we will get to see the whole world together. Until then Australia." The pair welcomed their twin sons, Brian and John, in August 2010. Their daughter Isabel was born in June 2013. Jessica and Markle, 43, were once close friends, but haven't been spotted together in quite some time. Their reported rift allegedly began in June 2020, when Canadian lifestyle influencer Sasha Exeter publicly accused Jessica of showing "textbook white privilege" and "very problematic behavior and antics," People reported. In September 2020, Jessica took to her Instagram Stories to seemingly deny a falling out with Markle. "I'm going to tell this once and for all. Meghan and I are family. She is the kindest friend and has checked up on me everyday. Tabloid culture is atrocious. It creates lies and hurtful storyline[s]. Stop feeding into it. Done," she said, according to People. However, the former best friends "haven't been seen publicly together in years," per the outlet.
