Marcos orders probe into Siquijor electric co-op amid power crisis
President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. has directed an investigation into the operations of the Siquijor Island Power Cooperative (SIPCOR).
According to Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro, outgoing Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla and officer-in-charge Undersecretary Sharon Garin were already summoned to resolve the power situation in Siquijor province.
Short-term and long-term solutions are being enforced to address the power crisis in the area, Castro said.
The provincial government of Siquijor through its Sangguniang Panlalawigan has declared a state of calamity due to the worsening power crisis.
The approved resolution will empower the Provincial Government of Siquijor to access its Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund (LDRRMF), specifically the Quick Response Fund (QRF), to implement immediate interventions.
Provincial Board Member Brylle Deeiah Tumarong-Quio said the declaration was based on the recommendation of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) during its 2nd Quarter Meeting presided by Governor Jake Vincent Villa on May 29, 2025, following "widespread and prolonged power outages attributed to the breakdown of several power generation units operated by the Siquijor Island Power Corporation (SIPCOR)."
'The situation has led to a critical shortfall of approximately 2,250KW, severely affecting electricity supply across the province," she said.
Meanwhile, Castro said Marcos is also monitoring the situation at San Juanico Bridge, which will be rehabilitated.
Authorities said the restrictions on San Juanico Bridge could result in up to P600 million monthly economic losses as 14,000 vehicles cross the infrastructure daily. — BM, GMA Integrated News

Palace urges neutrality among senator-judges after Robin, Imee's KL trip with Sara
Malacañang on Friday urged some senator-judges to show neutrality and not their personal biases in the wake of the pending impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte. At a press briefing, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro was asked for comment on Senators Imee Marcos and Robin Padilla openly expressing their support for the Vice President at an event in Kuala Lumpur on Independence Day. ''Sa batas naman po, sinasabi na kapag kayo ay tumayong senator-judges, dapat mayroon kayong neutrality, dapat hindi bias. Sa ngayon po, harap-harapang ipinapakita ang biases,'' Castro said. (Under the law, if you're sitting as senator-judges, you should be neutral and not biased. At present, they're showing their biases.) ''Sana po, igalang nila ang taumbayan at magpakita naman ng kaunting kahihiyan, dahil ang sinisilbihan nila ay ang taumbayan, hindi para sa iisang tao lamang,'' she added. (I hope they respect the public and show some shame because they are serving the nation and not just one individual.) The two senators were with Sara Duterte during her trip to Malaysia. As seen in Raffy Tima's report on '24 Oras,' Padilla went up on stage during the event, attended by overseas Filipino workers, and declared Sara Duterte as the next president of the Philippines. 'Gusto ko muna kong mabigay-pugay unang-una sa susunod na pangulo na si Inday Sara Duterte,' Padilla said, followed by the chanting of 'Duterte' by the audience. 'Ang sarap! Kapag sinisagaw mo lalo akong tumatapang eh!' he added. Imee Marcos called for support for Sara Duterte. 'Samahan ninyo ako na tayong lahat, sa likod ni VP Inday Sara Duterte, ay maninindigan para sa bayan, para sa konstitusyon, para sa ating bansa, dahil tayo ay malayang mamayang Pilipino, ang mga tunay na hukom ng bayan,' Imee Marcos said. (Let us join together, behind VP Inday Sara Duterte, to stand for the country, for the Constitution, because we are free Filipino citizens, the true judges of this country.) Imee Marcos also referred to the robes of senator-judges that she, Padilla, and Sen. Cynthia opted not to don on Wednesday night. 'Alam po ninyo, dalawang gabi, isang gabi, hilo na kami. Tumayo kami bilang hukom at nagsuot ng damit bilang hukom. Nakita siguro ng iba sa inyo. Pero kami, mga pasaway ni Robin, hindi kami nagsuot. Ayaw namin nun, pangit. It's not my color. (You know, two nights, one night, we're dizzy. We stood as judges and wore the robes. Some may have seen it, but Robin and I were being naughty. We did not wear it. We don't want it, it's ugly. It's not my color. You know, the truth is, we stood up because with freedom comes the responsibility to be fair and honorable.) The Senate, sitting as an impeachment court, returned the impeachment complaint against the Vice President back to the House of Representatives, but without dismissing or terminating the Articles of Impeachment. The motion was approved with 18 affirmative, five negative votes, and zero abstentions. Sara Duterte was impeached by the House on February 5, with more than 200 congressmen endorsing the verified complaint against her. The Vice President stands accused of betrayal of public trust, culpable violation of the Constitution, graft and corruption, and other high crimes. She has since denied the allegations. The Philippine Constitution Association (Philconsa) has called out the Senate for its move, saying that this action raises constitutional concerns. –NB, GMA Integrated News

Palace on Sara claiming fraud during Eleksyon 2025: Let's respect the result
Malacañang underscored Friday that the result of the recently concluded midterm elections should be respected. At a press briefing, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro reacted to the claim of Vice President Sara Duterte that there was fraud in the recent elections, saying that three more Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP) bets 'won.' ''Well sa mga ganito kasi, wish lang nila iyon, libre naman ang mangarap. Ang pangarap na iyon sa ngayon ay hindi mangyayari. Ang pangarap sana ay huwag gawing reyalidad baka maraming maniwala,'' Castro said. (In such cases, it's just their wish. It's free. That wish will not happen. I hope they don't make it a reality as more people might believe them.) ''So, kung ano po ang resolusyon ang naging resulta ng eleksyon, igalang na lang po natin,'' Castro added. (So, whatever the result of the elections, let's respect it.) With that kind of narrative, the Palace official said Duterte and her camp only want to destroy the integrity of the polls, and even the Commission on Elections. Castro added that the camp was not saying anything good about the administration. During an Independence Day event with Filipinos in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Duterte said she spoke to IT experts who said it was impossible that the numbers that came out in the elections were true. She urged PDP to question how the counting process was done. The two PDP-Laban bets who won in the recent midterm elections were reelectionists Christopher 'Bong' Go and Ronald 'Bato' dela Rosa. House member Rodante Marcoleta, who also won, was endorsed by the PDP. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News For more Eleksyon 2025 related content and updates, visit GMA News Online's Eleksyon 2025 microsite.

Palace: Marcos not privy to 'deal' between Sara, Imee on bringing home Duterte
President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. has no participation in the supposed ''deal'' between Vice President Sara Duterte and Senator Imee Marcos to bring home former President Rodrigo Duterte. During a press briefing, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro was asked how does Malacañang view the Vice President's remark that she is bringing with her the president's sister wherever she goes as the latter will be the one who will bring her father back to the Philippines. The former president is under custody of the International Criminal Court in The Hague due to allegations related to his administration's anti-illegal drugs campaign. ''Ito ba iyong binanggit niya na hostage niya, si Senator Imee Marcos? Ang Pangulo ay walang partisipasyon sa kanilang naging kasunduan. The President is not privy to the contract or agreement between a user and a person willing to be used. (Is this the one where she mentioned that Senator Imee Marcos was being held hostage? The President has no participation with their deal. The President is not a privy to the contract or agreement between a user and a person willing to be used. The President had nothing to do with the agreement between a user and someone who's willing to be used.) Imee was with Duterte during her personal trip in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She called for support for Duterte during an event with overseas Filipino workers there. Castro, meanwhile, said the President only wants to focus on his duties, noting that another concern was added as she mentioned the power crisis in Siquijor province. ''At ang nais lang po natin sana ay ang Pangulo po kasi ang sinabi niya ay tuloy-tuloy siya sa kanyang pagtatrabaho, focus sa trabaho. Nadagdag pa nga po ang problema dito sa Siquijor. At kung ang Bise Presidente lamang sana ay nakipag-usap sa kanyang kaibigan, baka hindi pa dumaan at dumating sa krisis na ito sa Siquijor,'' she added. (The President only wants to focus on his job. Another problem in Siquijor was even added to the President's concerns. It would be better if the Vice President talked to her friend then maybe there's no crisis in Siquijor.) The Siquijor Island Power Cooperative (SIPCOR), which provides power supply in the province, is owned by the Villar Group of Companies. To recall, the Vice President supported the senatorial bid of Senator-elect Camille Villar during the midterm polls, despite Villar being under the administration's Alyansa Para Sa Bagong Pilipinas. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
