Marcos orders probe into Siquijor electric co-op amid power crisis
President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. has directed an investigation into the operations of the Siquijor Island Power Cooperative (SIPCOR).
According to Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro, outgoing Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla and officer-in-charge Undersecretary Sharon Garin were already summoned to resolve the power situation in Siquijor province.
Short-term and long-term solutions are being enforced to address the power crisis in the area, Castro said.
The provincial government of Siquijor through its Sangguniang Panlalawigan has declared a state of calamity due to the worsening power crisis.
The approved resolution will empower the Provincial Government of Siquijor to access its Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund (LDRRMF), specifically the Quick Response Fund (QRF), to implement immediate interventions.
Provincial Board Member Brylle Deeiah Tumarong-Quio said the declaration was based on the recommendation of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) during its 2nd Quarter Meeting presided by Governor Jake Vincent Villa on May 29, 2025, following "widespread and prolonged power outages attributed to the breakdown of several power generation units operated by the Siquijor Island Power Corporation (SIPCOR)."
'The situation has led to a critical shortfall of approximately 2,250KW, severely affecting electricity supply across the province," she said.
Meanwhile, Castro said Marcos is also monitoring the situation at San Juanico Bridge, which will be rehabilitated.
Authorities said the restrictions on San Juanico Bridge could result in up to P600 million monthly economic losses as 14,000 vehicles cross the infrastructure daily. — BM, GMA Integrated News

Malacañang on Friday urged some senator-judges to show neutrality and not their personal biases in the wake of the pending impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte. The Senate, sitting as an impeachment court, returned the impeachment complaint against the Vice President back to the House of Representatives, but without dismissing or terminating the Articles of Impeachment. The motion was approved with 18 affirmative, five negative votes, and zero abstentions. Sara Duterte was impeached by the House on February 5, with more than 200 congressmen endorsing the verified complaint against her. The Vice President stands accused of betrayal of public trust, culpable violation of the Constitution, graft and corruption, and other high crimes. She has since denied the allegations. Palace on Sara claiming fraud during Eleksyon 2025: Let's respect the result
Malacañang underscored Friday that the result of the recently concluded midterm elections should be respected. At a press briefing, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro reacted to the claim of Vice President Sara Duterte that there was fraud in the recent elections, saying that three more Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP) bets 'won.' ''Well sa mga ganito kasi, wish lang nila iyon, libre naman ang mangarap. Ang pangarap na iyon sa ngayon ay hindi mangyayari. Ang pangarap sana ay huwag gawing reyalidad baka maraming maniwala,'' Castro said. (In such cases, it's just their wish. It's free. That wish will not happen. I hope they don't make it a reality as more people might believe them.) ''So, kung ano po ang resolusyon ang naging resulta ng eleksyon, igalang na lang po natin,'' Castro added. Palace: Marcos not privy to 'deal' between Sara, Imee on bringing home Duterte
President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. has no participation in the supposed ''deal'' between Vice President Sara Duterte and Senator Imee Marcos to bring home former President Rodrigo Duterte. During a press briefing, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro was asked how does Malacañang view the Vice President's remark that she is bringing with her the president's sister wherever she goes as the latter will be the one who will bring her father back to the Philippines. The former president is under custody of the International Criminal Court in The Hague due to allegations related to his administration's anti-illegal drugs campaign. ''Ito ba iyong binanggit niya na hostage niya, si Senator Imee Marcos? Ang Pangulo ay walang partisipasyon sa kanilang naging kasunduan. The President is not privy to the contract or agreement between a user and a person willing to be used. Walang kinalaman ang Pangulo sa kontratang kanilang pinasukan, iyong isang tao na manggagamit at isang taong willing magpagamit,'' Castro said.
