PM Modi Wishes Mallikarjun Kharge On His Birthday, Prays For His Long Life
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday extended birthday greetings to Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge, wishing him a long and healthy life.
Born on July 21, 1942, in Varawatti village of Bhalki Taluk, Bidar district, Karnataka, Kharge hails from a Dalit family and has had a decades-long political journey.
He has been serving as the President of the Indian National Congress since 2022 and as the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha since 2021. A Rajya Sabha MP from Karnataka, he has represented the state in Parliament since 2020.
In a post on X, PM Modi posted: "Best wishes to the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Shri Mallikarjun Kharge Ji, on his birthday. Praying for his long and healthy life."

The Congress party also paid rich tributes to its veteran leader, highlighting his commitment to justice, democracy, and the Constitution.
"Warmest birthday greetings to our esteemed Congress President, Shri Kharge ji! A relentless champion of justice and equality, he leads the party with unparalleled courage, wisdom, and political acumen," the party said in a statement.
"His inspiring leadership strengthens our resolve to uphold the Constitution with unwavering integrity. His faith and commitment to democracy and decades of distinguished public service make him a true icon," the party added.
"Wishing you good health, immense happiness, and many more years of bold, visionary leadership. Happy Birthday, Shri Kharge ji!" Congress said.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar also took to X and wished the Congress chief on his birthday, calling him the state's "pride".
"Warm birthday wishes to AICC President and Karnataka's pride, Shri Kharge avaru. Over the years, I have witnessed your deep commitment to the people and to the ideals of the Congress Party," he posted.
"Your journey from the grassroots to national leadership is an inspiration to all of us in public life. For Karnataka and for India, you remain a pillar of strength and wisdom. Wishing good health and many more years in the service of the nation," Mr Shivakumar added.
Mr Kharge is the first non-Gandhi Congress president in 24 years and the 98th person to head the party.

Was no government agency in the know that such a dastardly terror attack is going to happen and a plot is being hatched in Pakistan," she asked. 'It is a big failure of our government and intelligence agencies. Who will take responsibility of this? Has anyone resigned? They keep talking about past but who will answer about what is happening in present," she said. The Wayanad MP also accused the Central government of consistently evading questions, saying it shows no sense of accountability to the people. 'The truth is that they have no place for the public in their heart. For them, everything is politics, publicity," she claimed.

KCR asks partymen to step up protest against Banakacherla
Hyderabad: Reiterating that Telangana people had taken note that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy was working his Andhra Pradesh counterpart N Chandrababu Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao on Tuesday called upon the party cadre take up statewide protest programs on Banakacherla project. Earlier the BRS president had a long meeting with senior leaders of the party, including senior leaders like working president K T Rama Rao, T Harish Rao and G Jagadish Reddy. Chandrashekar Rao said that as the state government was a complete failure across segments and to avoid agrarian crisis that the state stares at, there should be a no holds barred fight by the party. He said that the Banakacherla project, which was detrimental to the interests of the state, should be stopped, towards which the task was cut out for the party cadre. KCR said it was unfortunate that the state government was implementing policies that were proving beneficial to Andhra Pradesh and against the farmers of the state. 'Our party leaders should expose the government which was doing gross injustice to the state. They should explain to the people that the government had deliberately dried up the Kaleshwaram project and did not give water during the sowing time,' he said. The government should start the Kannepally pumphouse and fill projects with water. He also said that there was a shortage of urea in the state. The party leaders should inform the people that ignoring the agriculture sector was an unpardonable act. 'The Congress and BJP were passing time by blaming each other. BRS will always stand by the people of Telangana,' KCR affirmed.

Op Sindoor Debate: Tharoor, Tewari out as Cong picks new speakers
New Delhi:Congress leaders Shashi Tharoor and Manish Tewari, who were part of the delegations India sent to partner countries to highlight its stand against cross-border terrorism, would not be among Congress speakers during the debate on Operation Sindoor in the Lok Sabha, sources said. The sources said while Manish Tewari had sent a request to the party to speak during the debate, Tharoor apparently conveyed unwillingness as his stance during the visit abroad of the delegation would be at variance with the party's strong stance against the government on aspects related to the military operation to hit target infrastructure in Pakistan and PoJK. Tharoor led one of the all-party delegations. Sources said the party has picked up some other leaders who will represent it during the 16-hour debate. Rahul Gandhi, who is Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, spoke on Tuesday.
