Men charged for soliciting as Scots cops launch crackdown on kerb crawling
Cops in the city have also been arresting and charging anyone attempting to purchase sex.
Officers are focusing on areas known for on street prostitution and have been engaging with people involved in sex work to make sure they are safe and signposted to support from local partner agencies.
It has resulted in nine charges so far.
This new approach was piloted in Aberdeen, and is now in action in Glasgow and Dundee, specifically in areas where on street prostitution remains an issue. It will also be adopted across the country where specific Operation Begonia patrols are in addition to regular police patrols.
Detective Superintendent Steven Bertram, lead on Prostitution, Police Scotland, said: 'Prostitution brings a significant threat of risk and harm to people and communities.
'People involved in prostitution, most of whom are women, are particularly vulnerable to violence.
'Drug or alcohol related issues, or poverty, can drive people into prostitution, particularly on street.
'Our approach, as demonstrated in Aberdeen, Glasgow and Dundee, focuses on safety and welfare, engaging with people and signposting them to support available from our partners, and hopefully reducing the risk of violence.
'This is about building trust and confidence in policing. It's about safer communities and supported victims. And it's about tackling violence against women and girls in all its forms.'

Victims Minister Siobhan Brown said: 'I was pleased to visit Dundee to learn more about Police Scotland's new national approach to tackle demand for prostitution, Operation Begonia, which recognises women involved in prostitution as victims of exploitation and signposts them to local support organisations, whilst also challenging and deterring men's demand.
'This is an early outcome of our joint work with Police Scotland and this approach, with a focus on safety and support for those involved in commercial sexual exploitation, will help to contribute to better outcomes for victims as well as safer communities.'

Three seriously injured in A952 crash near Cortes in Aberdeenshire
Three people were taken to hospital after a serious crash on the A952 near Cortes in Aberdeenshire. The accident took place at about 2.20pm on Monday August 11 and involved a black Mercedes C200 and a black Honda Civic. Emergency services attended and the 34-year-old male driver of the Civic and his 53-year-old female passenger were taken to hospital. The woman's injuries are described as serious, while the driver was later discharged. Police said the 70-year-old female driver and 92-year-old male passenger of the Mercedes were also taken to hospital, where they remain with serious injuries. The A952 was closed for around 10 hours to allow collision investigation work to be carried out at the scene, a few miles south of Fraserburgh. It reopened shortly after midnight. A 34-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident. Sergeant Pete Henderson said: 'Inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the crash. 'We would urge anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has any information, to come forward. 'And we would also ask anyone with dash-cam footage who was driving in the area around the time of the crash to review it and contact us if it could assist with our investigation.' Motorists travelling in the area at the time experienced delays due to diversions onto surrounding rural roads while the closure was in place. Recovery teams later removed the vehicles involved and cleared debris from the carriageway before the road reopened. Tributes to 'loving step-dad and grandad' who died in A98 crash
Tributes have been paid to a 'loving step-dad and husband' who died in a crash on the A98 near Buckie. Alistair J Stewart, from Ardersier, died following a crash at Arradoul at around 6.50am on Monday. The incident involved a blue Renault Megane and an ambulance. Emergency services attended, and the 36-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. Mr Stewart's family has paid tribute in a statement released via Police Scotland saying: 'He was a welder at Forsyths Buckie, he was born in Inverness in November 1988 and then brought up in Ardersier and attended Culloden Academy. He attended Global Highland Skills Academy to be trained as a welder. 'He married Mikaela in July 2022 following an 11-year relationship and became a stepdad to Grace and Leon and Grandad to baby Finn. 'He was a loving husband. Alistair was a beloved son to Grace and Neil Stewart, of Ardersier. He is a much loved brother to Mhairi and Alan, and caring uncle to Rhys, Eryn, Owen and Jack, he'll be sorely missed by us all'. Two male paramedics and the male patient from the ambulance were taken to Dr Gray's Hospital and Aberdeen Royal Infirmary Hospital for treatment. Officers said none of their injuries are thought to be serious. Enquiries into the crash are ongoing, with police urging anyone with information to come forward. Cyclist rushed to hospital after being struck by car on Edinburgh street
The news comes as a cyclist was left seriously injured after being hit by a car on Nicolson Street in the Southside of the city yesterday at around 9.30pm. A cyclist has been rushed to hospital after being struck by a car on an Edinburgh street. The horror smash that unfolded on Dublin Street in the new town of the capital is the third incident involving a bike and vehicle in a number of days. Police and ambulances rushed to the scene after receiving reports of the collision shortly before 6pm on August 12. Cops have erected a cordon while they carry out a full investigation into the crash, while the extent of the casualty's injuries remain unknown. A spokesperson for the force said: "Dublin Street is closed at the junction with Abercromby Place and Albany Street in Edinburgh following a crash involving a car and a cyclist, which was reported to us at around 5.55pm on Tuesday, 12 August, 2025. "The cyclist has been taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment. "Motorists are asked to avoid the area and use diversions in place." Around 5.20pm on August 11, police raced to the road after reports of a road traffic smash. The incident involved a car and a female cyclist. The woman was transported to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment. Inquiries are ongoing into the incident.
