Route 17 in Tioga County restricted for highway reconstruction project
TIOGA COUNTY, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A highway reconstruction project is set to continue next month, slowing down traffic on Route 17 in Tioga County.
The New York State Department of Transportation announced that beginning April 1, eastbound traffic along Interstate 86 in the Town of Owego and Hamlet of Apalachin will be crossed over to the westbound side and travel will be restricted to one lane in each direction.
The Exit 66 eastbound off-ramp at Apalachin will also be closed starting April 1.
Ahead of the crossover, motorists should also expect to see concrete barriers being placed along the westbound lanes starting as early as March 24.
Construction is expected to run through the end of November.
Motorists are urged to slow down and drive responsibly in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone.

Deputies: Holland Township rear-end crash sends 1 to hospital
HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Deputies say a woman was hospitalized Friday after a rear-end crash in Holland Township. It happened just after 11:40 a.m. on Riley Street near 100th Avenue, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office. A 44-year-old woman was heading east in a white Jeep, according to the sheriff's office. At the same time, two cars were stopped on Riley at a traffic signal. Deputies say the woman rear-ended the two stopped cars, then went off the road, through a fence and into the backyard of a nearby home. The woman was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, according to the sheriff's office. Other people suffered minor injuries.
