Liberty's Breanna Stewart avoids significant injury on right leg, AP source says

NEW YORK (AP) — New York Liberty star Breanna Stewart avoided a significant injury when she hurt her right leg in a game Saturday night, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press.
The All-Star forward had imaging done and nothing major turned up, according to the person who spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity Sunday because no official statement had been made.
She will travel with the team on its four-game road trip that begins in Dallas on Monday night, the person said.
Stewart left the game nearly 3 1/2 minutes into the Liberty's 101-99 loss to the Los Angeles Sparks. She had three points and a rebound. Stewart seemed to injure the leg while running up the court. She went to the locker room and never returned to the bench.
'No update, hopefully she'll be OK,' coach Sandy Brondello said the Liberty's five-game winning streak was snapped.
New York was playing the second half of a back-to-back. Stewart had a quiet scoring game in Friday's win over Phoenix, with just six points. She did have eight rebounds, five assists, two blocks and two steals.
Stewart came into Saturday's game averaging 19 points, 6.8 rebounds and 4.0 assists on the season to help New York (17-7) to the second-best record in the league.
The two-time WNBA MVP hadn't missed a game yet this season. After playing much of July at home, New York will be on the road for five of its next six games.
New York also had two other injuries; Kennedy Burke had some cramps and Leonie Fiebich has been dealing with a hand injury she suffered against Phoenix.
'She's tough and resilient, she pushed through it,' Brondello said.

Elijah Paige hopes to take on leadership role for USC's offensive line in 2025

For seemingly quite some time now, USC football has gone into each season with one or more established veteran leaders on the offensive line. From Alijah Vera-Tucker, to Andrew Vorhees, to Brett Neilon, to Justin Dedich, to Jonah Monheim, the Trojans have seemingly always had a guy who has been around for four or more years and gone through the ups and downs with the program. This season, USC's o-line does not have that established veteran presence, meaning that the Trojans will be forced to turn to a new generation of leaders. One player who has been looking to step into a leadership role in 2025 is redshirt sophomore offensive tackle Elijah Paige. Representing USC at Big Ten media days in Las Vegas last week, Paige spoke about trying to take on a leadership role on the Trojans' offensive line in 2025. "Teaching [the young guys] everything that I know, the moments that I had that were the 'low points of the season,'" Paige said, via 247Sports. "Teaching them and guiding them so that they don't have to go through the same things that I went through. Telling them everything that I know, playing in different environments, playing against different players, how to go against different pass rushers, just giving them everything that I have, and obviously they know a ton too. They learn the same things that I learned. So yeah, we're just kind of a team. "We've gone through it. We know what it feels like. Obviously, you never want to lose a game, but we've learned a ton from it. Our team's learned a ton. We've learned personally a ton about ourselves, and we're just excited to go out there this fall and play." As a redshirt freshman starting at left tackle last season, Paige was named All-Big Ten honorable mention. Now entering his second season as a starter for the Trojans, Paige will look to develop into one of the top offensive linemen in the conference.

Former ESPN analyst is still baffled by last season's MVP snub for Lamar Jackson

Months later, a former ESPN mainstay still hasn't gotten over an obvious Lamar Jackson MVP snub. Every so often, ESPN has its round of firings, and the network saunters on with its restructured cast of stars. Some men and women we know are safe before those cuts happen. Sometimes, the dismissals shock us. Now and then, once everything settles, we realize we miss some of the on-air talent more than we thought we would. Bomani Jones isn't every Baltimore Ravens fan's cup of tea. Neither was the man whose show he co-hosted. Highly Questionable wasn't one of those broadcasts that everyone would set the timer to watch. Dan Le Batard... He, too, was the owner of one of those personalities you'd understand someone loving or feeling they could do without. Jones eventually left the show in 2017 to develop his brand, High Noon. He was also a regular on ESPN's highly popular Around the Horn, but it's his recent creative effort, The Right Time with Bomani Jones, that captured our attention relatively recently. Bomani Jones is still aggravated by a perceived Lamar Jackson MVP snub Those of you who are hip-hop heads will appreciate this reference, but at its core, few things offer the same competitive component as the battle. Once upon a time, Nas went for blood, shifting music on its ear with his verbal onslaught on Jay-Z. Ether was what he titled it. Many moons later, Lamar Jackson would pass for 4,172 yards and toss 41 touchdown passes while only throwing four interceptions. He led the league in touchdown percentage (8.6), yards per attempt (8.8), QB rating (119.6), and QBR (77.3). He added another 915 yards and four rushing touchdowns with his legs. He was named First-Team All-Pro in the AFC. When the MVP votes were tallied, the award was given to Buffalo Bills star Josh Allen. Months later, Jones 'ethered' everyone responsible. We can't argue with any of that. He's right. Much love to Josh Allen. He's gifted and all and was probably the best MVP Pick not named Lamar Jackson, but Lamar Jackson should be the owner of three MVP trophies right now. Challenge flags can't be thrown when MVP trophies are handed out. That simply isn't how things work, but maybe it should be. Months later, this still feels like a snub. Sure, it's whatever under the bridge now, and training camp is already underway, but don't blame us for bringing this up. Blame Jones. We simply demand a recount.
