Appleton's Memorial Day Parade connects generations in tribute
APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – The Appleton Memorial Day Parade transformed the streets of Northeast Wisconsin into a vibrant celebration of remembrance.
This cherished tradition brought families together to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
The parade kicked off with an energetic marching band, filling the air with music and patriotism. Among the attendees was the Parish family. Andrea Parish expressed excitement for her children saying, 'It's great to have them down here. We thought we'd bring them down and see what it's about.'
This year's event held special significance for her, as she reflected on her stepfather's service and the legacy of sacrifice in her family. The lively atmosphere was complemented by the sounds of honking cars and wailing sirens. Ben Paton, another parade-goer, shared his appreciation for the day

'It's a beautiful day, a great parade,' he said. 'We love seeing all the bands and honoring the veterans as well.'
The event culminated in a poignant Moment of Remembrance. Mayor Jake Woodford emphasized its importance, stating, 'It's a deeply meaningful ceremony and a great way to honor our veterans.'
A local choir's rendition of 'God Bless America' further underscored the emotional weight of the occasion. The Fox Valley Veterans Council, Fast Signs, and Great Northern Corporation displayed banners honoring Outagamie County servicemen and women who lost their lives, allowing spectators to reflect on their sacrifices.
Each year, the Appleton Memorial Day Parade draws hundreds of participants and thousands of spectators, creating a powerful atmosphere of gratitude and remembrance.
As families gather to celebrate, the spirit of those who served continues to resonate, ensuring their sacrifices are never forgotten.

St. Joseph Backpack Food Assistance Program distributed nearly 43K meals to students
(WFRV) – The St. Joseph Backpack Food Assistance Program distributed nearly 43,000 meals to students in eight school districts for the 2024-2025 school year. Each meal contained eight ready-to-eat healthy meal items that students would take home with them over the weekend. The participating schools said that students felt less stressed when heading home. Registration open, date announced for 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Lambeau Field 'That program is for children from kindergarten through high school and so the teachers in each school determined what the best way to get that to the kids was but generally at the end of the week they would get that bag to take home and have something to eat,' said Monica Claire, St. Joseph Food Program Executive Director. Registration open, date announced for 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Lambeau Field
GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Officials announced the date for the 13th annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Lambeau Field, also noting that registration for the event is now open. On Saturday, September 20, Lambeau Field will host one of the largest annual stair climb events in the nation, the annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Lambeau Field. The event, which is a powerful reminder of the sacrifice made by thousands on September 11, 2001, continues to grow every year with an anticipated 2,500 participants in 2025, up from the 2,300 in 2024. Sheboygan police sergeant, public works employees help rescue kitten stuck in storm sewer The thousands of participants nationwide from across the fire service community, their families, friends, and supporters, will embark on Lambeau Field to pay respects to the lives lost and those who were willing to sacrifice their own. 'The 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb is a powerful reminder of the courage, sacrifice, and unity which defines the fire service,' said Chief Matthew Knott of the Green Bay Metro Fire Department. 'Each year, we are humbled by the incredible support from our community and are proud to honor the 343 firefighters who gave everything on that tragic day. Together, we climb to ensure their legacy lives on and to support the critical work of the NFFF.' During the event, participants climb the equivalent of 110 stories, the height of the World Trade Center towers. Each climber carries an honor badge displaying the name and photograph of one of the fallen firefighters, symbolically completing the heroic journey. Upon reaching the equivalent of the 78th floor, the highest point firefighters reached on 9/11, climbers will ring a fire bell in solemn tribute. Swing into summer by supporting the Miracle League of the Fox Valley 'Each year is as meaningful as the next as we pay tribute to the 343 firefighters who selflessly put others ahead of themselves on 9/11. We deeply appreciate the support of our partners, volunteers, and climbers who make this event possible. Their dedication ensures we never forget the sacrifices made,' said Bob Schulz, president of Pierce Manufacturing. The event is co-sponsored by the Green Bay Metro Fire Department and Pierce Manufacturing. All funds raised from the event will benefit the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
