Kerala: PV Anvar to contest Nilambur bypolls as TMC candidate
Malappuram (Kerala) [India], June 1 (ANI): All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) has fielded their Kerala state coordinator, PV Anvar, as their candidate for the upcoming Nilambur bypolls, set to be held on June 19. Anvar had raised corruption allegations against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's officials and claimed that he would not be contesting the bypolls, supporting the Congress candidate instead.
The byelections were necessitated after Anvar submitted his resignation on January 13 to Assembly Speaker AN Shamseer, days after holding talks with TMC leaders, including Abhishek Banerjee and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee.
Talking about their candidate, a post by TMC read, 'Under the inspiration and guidance of Hon'ble Chairperson Smt. Mamata Banerjee, we are pleased to announce the All India Trinamool Congress candidate for the impending Kerala Legislative Bye-election scheduled for 19th June, 2025.'

A few months ago, Anvar had accused CM Vijayan's political secretary P Sasi, and ADGP M R Ajith Kumar, claiming they were involved in phone tapping of ministers and journalists and also accused the ADGP and IPS officer Sujith Das of misappropriated seized gold. Anvar had claimed that there was RSS influence in the home department and Muslim youths were being framed in false cases.
Following the accusations, Anvar, then an independent MLA but aligned with the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) in the state, vowed to work for ending the Pinarayi Vijayan-led government.
'I will not contest the Nilambur by-election. I will give full support to the Congress candidate to end the Pinarayi government. The Congress should field a candidate from Nilambur. Malappuram DCC president Joy is the suitable candidate,' Anvar had told mediapersons on January 13.
The byelection has political significance as it is a precursor to next year's state assembly election and will test the popularity of the current government led by CM Vijayan.
Anvar has also raised the issue of human-animal conflict in the state, and also apologised to Congress MLA VD Satheesan for raising corruption allegations against him, saying that CM Vijayan's political secretary had asked him to raise those allegations.
'CM's political secretary asked me to raise corruption allegation against opposition leader VD Satheesan in the assembly. He has prepared the matter to present in the assembly. The allegation that VD Satheesan received Rs 150 crore was raised in the assembly with the permission of the Speaker. I don't know whether there was a conspiracy. I apologise to opposition leader V D Satheesan and the public for this,' he told reporters.
Anvar has been the Nilambur MLA since 2016, backed by the LDF in both the 2016 and 2021 assembly elections.
Notably, LDF has announced M Swaraj as their candidate, meanwhile Bharatiya Janata Party is fielding Mohan George and the United Democratic Front (UDF) announced Aryadan Shoukath. (ANI)

Yunus expressed optimism about finalising a broadly accepted 'July Charter' - an agreement built through collective understanding among parties after the ouster of the Hasina govt. Salahuddin hoped Yunus will consider Dec for conducting the election. He also argued the commission has already taken significant time and election before year-end remains feasible. "Full consensus may not be support reforms that benefit the nation and ensure inclusion of all," he added.

"His statement suggests they informed Pakistan in advance...": Digvijaya Singh on Jaishankar's 'Operation Sindoor' remark
Mandla (Madhya Pradesh) [India], June 3 (ANI): Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Monday criticised External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar over his recent statement about 'Operation Sindoor', suggesting that the government may have informed Pakistan in advance about targeting terrorist camps. Speaking to ANI, Singh said, 'S Jaishankar is a highly experienced diplomat. His father was a renowned figure and a respected defence analyst. But now, his own statement suggests that they informed them (Pakistan) in advance that they would be targeting terrorist camps. If you've already told the enemy that you're coming to attack, naturally, they will vacate the area. When you warn your enemy beforehand, they will obviously be prepared.' Earlier, Congress leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, also raised questions regarding the operation. He shared a video on social media platform X, where Jaishankar is seen speaking to reporters following the inauguration of the Honduras Embassy in Delhi. Gandhi accused the government of serious lapses. In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi wrote, 'Informing Pakistan at the start of our attack was a crime. EAM has publicly admitted that GOI did it. 1. Who authorised it? 2. How many aircraft did our airforce lose as a result?' The Ministry of External Affairs, however, rebutted Gandhi's accusations against External Affairs Minister Jaishankar that the government 'informed Pakistan' before the start of 'Operation Sindoor.' According to the XP Division of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Jaishankar had said that India had warned Pakistan at an early phase after Operation Sindoor's commencement. XP Division, MEA stated, 'EAM had stated that we had warned Pakistan at the start, which is clearly the early phase after Op Sindoor's commencement. This is being falsely represented as being before the commencement. This utter misrepresentation of facts is being called out.' Speaking to reporters on May 15, after the inauguration of the Honduras Embassy in Delhi, Jaishankar said, 'It is clear who wanted cessation of firing. We achieved the goals which we set out to do by destroying the terrorist infrastructure. Since key goals were achieved, I think we reasonably took the position, because even at the start of the operation, we had sent a message to Pakistan saying we are striking at terrorist infrastructure and not the military, and the military has an option to stand out and not interfere.' CM Sukhu inaugurates newly established SDPO office at Nadaun
Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], June 3 (ANI): Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday inaugurated the newly established office of the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) at Nadaun, aiming to strengthen the law and order infrastructure in the region. The SDPO office will oversee operations at Police Station Nadaun and Police Station Sujanpur, improving coordination, efficiency, and supervision of law enforcement activities. Covering a jurisdiction of 82 Gram Panchayats and one Nagar Panchayat (NAC), the new office is expected to enhance policing, ensure faster response times, and provide better administrative oversight. In addition, the Chief Minister also inaugurated the newly constructed 'Rajasva Sadan' at Nadaun, built at a cost of Rs 18.50 lakh, and dedicated the Panchayat Ghar in Kalur, constructed at a cost of Rs 1.14 crore. While addressing a gathering in Kalur, the Chief Minister said that when the construction of the Panchayat Ghar started, he was an MLA at that time and was happy to inaugurate it today. He announced that the liquor shop in Kalur will be shifted back to its previous location. He stated that ever since the state government has reinstated the Old Pension Scheme (OPS), the state has been facing financial restrictions from the Union government. 'As a result, Rs 1,600 crore as financial assistance to Himachal Pradesh has been curtailed by the Union Government,' he said. The Chief Minister further announced that the Rajiv Gandhi Day-Boarding School in Amlehar will commence from the next academic session. This will be the first CBSE-affiliated Rajiv Gandhi Day-Boarding School in the state. Along with quality education, the state government will also ensure nutritious meals in this school and in the coming years, around one thousand students are expected to enrol in this institution. He added that the state government has fixed a minimum support price of Rs 90 per kilogram for naturally grown raw turmeric, Rs 40 per kilogram for maize, and Rs 60 per kilogram for wheat. He also said that improvements in the state's healthcare services are underway and the medical college and a cancer hospital would soon be operational in Hamirpur. CM Sukhu also inspected the ongoing construction of a state-of-the-art Multipurpose Sports Complex at Kharidi in the Nadaun area. Being developed at a cost of Rs 65 crore, the facility is set to become a major hub for sports and youth engagement in the region. He directed the officers to complete the work by the end of this year. The modern complex will feature an 8-lane swimming pool, a shooting range, and dedicated spaces for wrestling, boxing, kabaddi, yoga, table tennis, and badminton. The Chief Minister stated that similar multipurpose sports complexes are being developed across the state to provide constructive avenues for youth and to help curb the menace of drug abuse. Emphasising the critical role of sports in promoting a healthy and disciplined lifestyle, the Chief Minister said, 'This sports complex will be a symbol of our commitment to nurturing talent and ensuring the physical and mental well-being of our youth.' Later, the Chief Minister also inspected the ongoing work at the Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding School in Amlehar, within the Nadaun assembly constituency. MLA Sanjay Rattan, HRTC Vice Chairman Ajay Verma, Nagar Panchayat Nadaun President Shammi Soni, District Collector Amarjeet Singh, SP Bhagat Singh, Congress leader Captain Prithvi Chand, and other dignitaries were present at the event.
