Del Amitri star to perform intimate Glasgow anniversary gig
He'll perform at Woodside Hall on May 2 to celebrate its 100th anniversary and raise money for their community fridge.
Andy hadn't set foot in the hall until just over a month ago, but quickly fell in love with it.
He said: 'I've lived in Glasgow for years and years, since around 1991, and toured the world.
'But a month ago, I was taken into the hall, and it's beautiful, like it's preserved in aspic.
'I'd always seen the red brick exterior when I'd been at the Lidl nearby, but when you get inside the place, it opens up like a Christmas present, it's such a great space.
'It's special, it's got that same kind of magic like the Barrowlands has that you only get with a place steeped in history.'

Jenny Garcia Bree, spokesperson for Maryhill Community Central Halls, who manage the venue, said: 'The hall has been at the heart of the community and has been a public space for all of its 100 years.
'We thought what better way to celebrate this milestone than to welcome people into the space and put on an event that shows off the rich and diverse culture of the city.
'It's nice to celebrate this alongside Glasgow's 850th anniversary too, it feels like a really special time.'
Andy became the creative director of the event through his passion for the hall and for raising money for the project.

It'll see his band, Andy Alston and The Earthly Delights, joined by The Tenementals, an eight-piece band who aim to use their songs to tell the "radical history" of Glasgow.
There'll also be performances by the Abhinaya Glasgow Dance Academy, poet Bob McInally and the Glasgow Reggae Club, who will perform a special celebration for what would've been Bob Marley's 80th birthday.
There'll also be photography exhibitions and other art to create a 'celebration of Glasgow'.
Andy joined Del Ametri before recording their second album, Waking Hours, which was released in 1990.
They have released seven studio albums, five of which have reached the UK top 10 and sold over six million albums worldwide.
Doors open at 6.30pm and £10 tickets are available via Skiddle.

And at the time they unfollowed each other from social media. Andy even went as far as to erase all trace of Lou from his Instagram account. Since their reunion, the couple resumed their trademark loved up posts of each other. Last week, an insider revealed to the Daily Mail: "It was Lou who ended her relationship with Andy, she walked away a few days ago, it was very much her choice to end their romance. " They went on to say: "She isn't interested in pointing the finger or blaming him and hoped to deal with their split in private, before he blocked her on Instagram and deleted their photos together." The source insisted that she was left "very upset" with regards to the arguments they endured before the split. Andy reportedly flew to Ibiza on a private jet despite the fact he had no idea where she was staying. Before they agreed to work on their relationship, the insider told the publication that Andy would have believed his huge gesture would win her over immediately but apparently Lou would be unimpressed. The source continued: "All she has done all year is love and support Andy, her feelings haven't gone away, but Lou has to protect herself now and ending the relationship is the only way to move forward." Andy had been playing football in France for two years before returning to the UK to play for Dagenham and Redbridge. One of the couple's arguments were in public and was witnessed by a restaurant worker. Things between the pair reportedly became heated, to the point where police were called. A worker at the Nikolus Tavern in Greece told The Sun on Sunday: "He [Andy] seemed very drunk and furious with his partner. He was using very bad words. They added: "It was improper behaviour. The woman looked very upset." The police spoke to Andy and later allowed him to return to Lou. The worker continued: "Police spoke to him. It quickly became apparent to the police that there was no reason for them to be there. We went outside the restaurant with them together as they insisted they wanted to "look after" us. The couple added: "As far as we are concerned, the situation has been blown out of all proportion by an interested member of the public. No one was arrested and no one was charged with anything. TASTE TEST: Anglesey's Monuts will leave you wanting more!
Mr Holt's has been described as the island's very own answer to the Willy Wonka factory. The popular business is owned by Richard Holt, a former pastry chef and star of S4C's pastry programme Yr Academi Felys (The Sweet Academy). Over the years, he has run the chocolate factory and café at the former mill at Melin Llynon, near Llanddeusant, and has crafted a popular Siocled range of Welsh chocolates. He has also designed a unique range of Anglesey-branded donuts - nicknamed 'Mônuts', which I, my wife and my son, recently embarked on a journey (of just half an hour or so) to try out. Now, it's worth noting at this point, that there are a lot more things you can do while you visit the Melin Llynon site - from an escape room to a model safari. But, as we were doing a flying visit, we simply stopped for some Monuts and sat by the old mill itself in the sunshine. The location itself is somewhat out of the way on the island, out in the sticks of Llandeusant. But, once you get there - particularly on a hot day like when we visited - it is certainly a lovely spot to sit down at. (Image: Newsquest) We walked in to the Mônuts section and were left impressed by the vast array of delicious options on offer. The Wonka-style hats, which visitors can take a picture with, were a nice touch also. There really was something for everyone to enjoy doughnut-wise with almost any possible flavour you could think of being available to buy. We opted for four doughnuts - Jammy dodger, luxury chocolate, school cake and caramel drizzle - and also bought a chocolate milkshake and a vanilla milkshake. That came to a total of £29.70, which is rather steep, but as a one-off treat cannot be whinged about, particularly as what we bought turned out to be very enjoyable. Also, as they're all hand-crafted by the team themselves, it is of course always great to support a local business where possible. Every single Mônut was wonderful in it's own right, with the jammy dodger one being a sweet toothed person's dream and the school cake option giving me a trip down memory lane to my younger years. My favourite though was the caramel drizzle as it was packed full of flavour. All four doughnuts were more than big enough to justify the price, and I'm glad we decided to share them between the four of us. My mum and dad agreed with us that they were well worth buying and they made for a nice afternoon treat while we caught up with family. I'd certainly go back to Melin Llynon in future to get my hands on another box of Mônuts. And the good news is that Mr Holt will soon be expanding his business' production with the opening of a new factory, supported by more than £250,000 in funding. I can't wait to see what other gems he produces in the months and years to come.

'I adopted abandoned dog and one heartwarming gesture made it all worth while'
Mark adopted the dog who was left abandoned on the streets then named him Dexter, now the rest is history. He shared his heartbreaking story in a post on TikTok Sadly the many stories of abandoned dogs is all too common. Often dog shelter workers might find a microchip inside an animal, while another might be rescued from a Lidl car park. Either way, there's a new heartwarming story every day and this latest one might just make you tear up. Mark opened up about the heartbreaking story in a lengthy post on TikTok under the account soulpaws_tails which allows people to share their own case. It all begun when he saw a photo of the dog, who was unnamed at the time and nearly placed on the euthanasia list. But Mark saw a picture of the pup who "looked very sad and thin" then named him Dexter. At first, he didn't have a name because no one wanted to adopt him. After being found in the streets of Georgia, US, in 2019, and arrived at the shelter about 10lbs underweight with half his fur missing due to fleas and sun damage. Dexter was house trained and knew basic commands so he most likely had lived in a home before. In the clip, which garnered 6,100 likes, Mark revealed: "In the southern US, bully breeds like pit bulls, sadly have a very low chance of being adopted and once they're added to the euthanasia list, their fate becomes even more uncertain. "Dexter had been at the shelter for weeks without a single inquiry, then a rescue group called Fly With Me noticed him and decided to step in." Mark also recalled the first moment he met Dexter, one that changed everything for him. "He jumped all over us like he'd known us forever," he admitted. "Most rescue dogs need time to adjust but Dexter felt calm and at peace." He added: "From the very first moment he came home, he bonded with our cat Zoe incredibly fast, he's so gentle with her, they're always sleeping next to each other. "At first I planned to set some ground rules, like no dogs on the couch or the bed, but guess you broke that rule within just two or three days, yep me. "My fiancé still teases me about the day she came home to find me and Dexter napping on the couch together, he's the friendliest dog I've ever known, but sadly we've also encountered some judgemental people." Discussing one heartbreaking moment, Mark revealed how an elderly woman warned him: "That creature is going to attack you in your sleep one night," a sentence which stuck with him for so long. But none of it mattered to Mark as their bond is "unlike anything" he ever experienced. Along the way, Mark even faced health struggles where he was diagnosed with Lupus and developed a blood clot in his right leg. Mark explained: "We've been fight through everything together to me Dexter's like a therapist. "He's so in tune with my emotions that even if I don't say a word or move a muscle he somehow knows when I'm stressed. "He quickly walks over, lies down on my lap and just like that everything gets a little bit easier. "Dexter's energy has made me a more active person too, we go to the beach together, he runs like crazy and digs like he's on a mission. "Sometimes he even sprints through the hallways at full speed and he absolutely loves jumping on the bed." Since the video was shared, people were left touched by Mark's kindness. One said: "He's beautiful, thank goodness you found each other."
