Eriksen to Rangers case presented amid Wrexham links

Glasgow Times27-07-2025
Currently without a club after leaving Manchester United at the end of last season, the Dane's future is very much up in the air.
Eriksen has been linked with a move to join English Championship big-spenders Wrexham, although Jansen, who turned out for the Welsh club, thinks Rangers could also be an option.
He said [OLBG]: "[[Rangers]] are a huge club and they've got Champions League football. So that's probably a bigger draw.
"I think it would take an awful lot of money for Wrexham to sign Eriksen. I know they have a lot of money, but do they have that much?
Read more:
"If he wants English football he should go to Wrexham but it depends on personal circumstances and whether he's happy to move. If he is, I would say Rangers were a stronger option.
"Even with Eriksen, I've got Wrexham down to struggle next season. There is a lot of quality in the Championship and it's a massive step up.
"Every league is a step up, but League One to Championship in particular is a very big step.
"It's always difficult when a player is reaching those golden age years and coming towards the end of his career.
"Then you have the expectation levels, because he'll be nowhere near as good as he once was in his prime. Again if Wrexham are going to struggle next season, is that going to suit the type of player that Eriksen is?"

Norwich City boss Liam Manning is expecting players to leave the club before the transfer window closes at the start of next Canaries have added 10 players to their first-team squad over the summer while selling last season's top scorer, Borja Sainz, to they prepare for Saturday's opening Championship match of the season against Millwall (15:00 BST), Manning admits players will have to leave the club."It's not always in our control but naturally we're a bit heavy," the head coach told BBC Radio Norfolk."We've been able to do some real productive work with the help of the owners to bring in what we have - the consequence is we've got a few too many and I'm sure in the coming weeks there'll be a few who will leave."Norwich finished their pre-season programme with a 2-0 win over Dutch side NAC Breda on Saturday with the notable absences of experienced duo Shane Duffy and Anis Ben Duffy missed only one league game last season while midfielder Slimane made 25 starts in the Championship."Everybody wants to play football and if that's not happening or not likely here, people want to pursue alternative options," Manning added."Until anything definite happens we'll keep working with them, keep pushing them - their attitude has been top in training and we'll see how that plays out."Listen to BBC Radio Norfolk's Scrimmage podcast.

Chelsea to sell £53m midfield duo after just five Premier League starts

Chelsea are on the verge of selling off two midfielders, who cost the club a combined £53million, to Premier League rivals. Enzo Maresca has been very busy this summer transfer window, splashing over £243m on eight new players, with Jorrel Hato the latest name through the door. There could be yet more incomings with the club working on a deal for RB Leipzig's Xavi Simons, while they maintain an interest in Manchester United wantaway Alejandro Garnacho. But the Blues still need to offload several stars who have no future at the club, following on from the sales of Noni Madueke, Joao Felix and Djordje Petrovic. Additionally, striker Armando Broja and defender Bashir Humphreys have left to join Burnley and it seems the Turf Moor club are not done raiding Stamford Bridge yet. The Athletic report that the Clarets have reached an agreement to sign Lesley Ugochukwu, just two years after the defensive midfielder moved to Chelsea for over £23m. Ugochukwu made just 12 Premier League appearances in his debut season, only three of which were starts, and was loaned out to Southampton last year. The 21-year-old was a shining light in the relegated team but deemed surplus to requirements by Maresca despite having five years left on his contract. And he won't be the only midfielder leaving west London this summer, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that Everton are close to agreeing a deal to sign Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. The 26-year-old followed Maresca from Leicester to Chelsea last summer but was almost immediately linked with a transfer after struggling for game time at the Bridge. While he helped win the Conference League and Club World Cup, the £30m signing was handed just two Premier League starts and has been the subject of interest from multiple top-flight teams. More Trending Chelsea legend John Obi Mikel recently urged Dewsbury-Hall to find a new team this summer, saying: 'He did well in the Championship with Leicester, but this is Chelsea Football Club. 'He needs to go somewhere he can play and improve. Is he a good player? Yes. Is he a Chelsea player? Definitely not.' While the fee offered by Everton is not known, it is said the deal is not related to their pursuit of Southampton's Tyler Dibling, with David Moyes keen to sign both Englishmen. Sky Sports report that the Saints have rejected the Toffees' second bid for Dibling worth an initial £35m plus £8m. For more stories like this, check our sport page. AEK Athens eye Cyriel Dessers transfer alternative as Rangers Champions League foes leave £7.5m man behind

AEK had been keen on Dessers but now appear to have turned their attensions elsewhere AEK Athens appear to have given up on signing Cyriel Dessers as they close in on a deal for ex Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic. ‌ The Rangers frontman had plenty of interest this summer despite mixed reviews from his two seasons at Ibrox and Russell Martin claimed after their draw with Motherwell at the weekend that Dessers was the only player they have received a formal bid for this summer. ‌ That is widely thought to have been from Athens where AEK had been very keen to take him to Greece. ‌ But after Martin talked Dessers up as the shining example to other players who haven't shown the same commitment to the cause, it now appears AEK are looking elsewhere. Marca report they are closing in on a free transfer for Jovic, who left AC Milan earlier this summer. The 27-year-old was once a £60m signing for Real Madrid after impressing with Eintracht Frankfurt but recent years haven't gone to plan – he struggled for minutes last season and scored just four goals. Now AEK appear to have won the race which would effectively close the door on a move for Dessers. On the Nigerian, boss Martin said over the weekend: "I said to some of the guys in there, Cyriel is the only one we have actually had a bid for and interest in. And he comes on and he runs so hard, on Wednesday night and today. ‌ "Some of them need to have a look at him and set that example. Meanwhile Viktoria Plzen will be without key midfielder Pavel Sulc for their clash with Rangers as he gets set to seal a move to Lyon. Sulc has scored 47 times in 167 appearances for the Czech side and is widely viewed as their best player – pinpointed as one of the danger men ahead of the two-leg third qualifying round tie with the Ibrox side. ‌ But he's set to seal a £7.5m move to Lyon and Plzen have confirmed he hasn't travelled to Glasgow. A curt statement from the club reads: "Midfielder Pavel Sulc will no longer be on board the flight (to Glasgow), as his transfer abroad is being finalised." Should Rangers get past the Czechs, they learned today it will be Club Brugge or Red Bull Salzburg standing between them and the lucrative league phase of the competition. They host Plzen at Ibrox in the first leg tomorrow night and the deadline for squad registration for that tie is tonight. It's understood Oliver Antman could be announced on Monday which would tee up a race against time to get the new striker registered. Winger Mikey Moore, who arrived from Tottenham last week, could also be involved.
