KKR appoints General Petraeus as chairman of Middle East
KKR, a leading global investment firm, today announced that it is expanding its presence in the Middle East including the appointment of General David Petraeus as Chairman of KKR Middle East.
It will also establish a dedicated investment team in the region led by Julian Barratt-Due, a Managing Director at KKR.
These appointments build on KKR's ongoing strategic commitment to the region, including having local offices since 2009 and deploying capital directly since 2019, said the company.
General Petraeus, former CIA Director and former Commander of US Central Command, is a Partner at KKR and Chairman of the KKR Global Institute, which assesses geopolitical issues and supports international growth, as well as a Board Director and strategic advisor to KKR portfolio companies and the Kissinger Fellow at Yale University's Jackson School of Global Affairs. In his expanded role, General Petraeus will leverage his extensive Middle East knowledge and stakeholder relationships to strengthen KKR's presence and partnerships in the region.
Julian Barratt-Due, who joined KKR in 2016, has been instrumental in a broad range of infrastructure investments, including the recent agreement to invest into Gulf Data Hub, a major independent data center platform in the Middle East with an owned portfolio of seven purpose-built and state-of-the art data centers in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, and additional facilities planned in Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman. Julian will lead the new regional investment team to identify investment and partnership opportunities in the region, with a focus on the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
Building on 16 years in the region, KKR has also strengthened and grown its Global Client Solutions team based across KKR's offices in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, with Directors Patricia Bandeira Vieira and Michael de Freitas moving to the region last year to focus on strategic partnerships and client engagement across the Middle East.

Epsom security stop Derby pub drinkers staging race over track
A group of 14 tried to stage an impromptu race over the Derby course after an afternoon spent in a local hostelry, a week before the big race A group of pub drinkers have been thwarted in a cheeky attempt to stage a pony and trap race over the course of the £1.5million Betfred Derby at Epsom Downs. Although the world famous racecourse is owned by the Jockey Club, the track is located in a public space with the infield area free to visitors, even on racedays. Security is always heightened in the lead-up to the Derby Festival to ensure no damage occurs to the racing surface. A potentially serious problem was averted after there was incursion on Saturday last week, seven days before the richest race of the year. Epsom general manager Jim Allen explained: 'Because this is all free access, there were 14 people with ponies and carts here on Saturday afternoon. 'They came around the inside road and got onto the track at about the one mile, two marker, where they were trotting down to the Derby start in preparation to race. 'A security guard spotted them, drove over in a truck and got them all off within half a furlong, near the entrance to George Baker's stables. They got off and never came back. We managed to keep them off the track apart from a furlong.' Every year during a Derby week a section of the Downs, adjacent to the track, is occupied by travellers but Allen said they were not involved with the incident. 'It certainly wasn't the travellers here on the site,' he said. 'They came from somewhere local. They'd been drinking in the Derby Arms for a while and suddenly took off. 'There was no damage to the track. The ground was obviously quite quick and the ponies were so small. All they did was flatten the grass but they didn't pull up any divots at all. 'We did notify the police but the group disappeared quite quickly and never came back. It was purely because this site is so open, it's a constant concern that anybody can get on the track.'

Arsenal release statement as midfield deal confirmed amid Martin Zubimendi chase
Arsenal have seen an early exit for midfield star Jorginho as the Italy international departs before the end of his contract with the prospect of Martin Zubimendi arriving at the Emirates Arsenal have confirmed that Jorginho has been released from his contract after coming to a mutual agreement to see him become a free agent. The midfielder was set to leave at the end of the month when his contract expired but has now made his exit prematurely and joined Brazilian club Flamengo in time to feature in the Club World Cup in the United States. Jorginho joined the Gunners in January 2023 from Chelsea and made 78 appearances for the club. The Italy international arrives in time as Flamengo begin their campaign in the US against ES Tunis, while Jorginho could line up against Chelsea on June 20, in the Brazilian side's second match of the group stage. Posting on social media, Arsenal said: "The club can confirm that we have reached a mutual agreement with Jorginho to end his contract with immediate effect. Thank you for everything and all the best, Jorgi" The north London side were highly complimentary of their former charge and said in their statement: "Jorginho (full name Jorge Luiz Frello Filho), soon became a hugely respected member of the squad. His natural leadership skills, together with his control in midfield, intelligent positioning and extensive, high-quality passing, ensured that he was a valuable and integral part of the club." "Everyone at Arsenal Football Club would like to thank Jorgi for his contribution to the club and we wish him and his family all the best for the future," they added. The Gunners are set to say goodbye to 17 players at the end of the month with Kieran Tierney joining Jorginho in exiting the Emirates. The Scotland star is set to join Celtic. Speaking about his exit, Tierney said: 'Just thank you for everything from day one. They supported us through the good times and the bad, and they supported me through some hard times as well. "I think that's what I'm most grateful for, the times where it wasn't so good or so easy for me is when they probably supported me most, so I'm just very grateful and I feel very lucky to have the support from them. "I feel so lucky that I've played for this club and the love that the supporters have given me has been amazing. I've loved every day here and I've learned so much, I've improved so much and I just feel very lucky." Arsenal are set to be busy this summer however, and already seem to have a midfield replacement for Jorginho. Martin Zubimendi is expected to arrive in north London. The finishing touches are said to being put to a deal, though theSpain international has suggested a move away from Real Sociedad is not guaranteed. The 26-year-old, who rejected the chance to move to Liverpool last August, told Radio Nacional when asked if he could yet stay in the Basque region. "Of course there are options, but it's true that it seems like it's going to be a different, long summer, and I don't know how it will end," he said. "I don't think thinking about that right now is my priority. I'm here with the national team, which I think is already quite demanding, and if I have to say something, then I will." The Mustang's New Appearance Pack Is a 1980s Fever Dream
Ford has found inspiration in its past for a new appearance package that launches with the 2026 Mustang . It's called the FX Pack, and it adds a handful of retro-inspired styling cues straight out of the 1980s to the seventh-generation Mustang. The FX combines Adriatic Blue Metallic, a new color inspired by the teal available on the third-generation Mustang, and white accents, including the wheels. There are two new rim designs, both finished in Oxford White. Photo by: Ford Photo by: Ford The pack's standard wheel is a new version of the car's 19-inch, five-spoke option, which was already available for 2025. The other wheel is offered with the Performance Pack and has a retro design that would look perfect on an original Fox Body . The wheels have white center caps that feature a new FX-specific font inspired by the wordmark found on the 1987-1993 Mustangs. White accents also wrap around the 5.0-liter and GT badges, while Ford puts an all-white pony in the center of the glass-black grille. Performance Pack cars will also have Oxford White Nostrils, while non-Performance Mustangs will feature Dark Carbonized Gray examples. FX Mustangs will also come with white taillights that look striking against the new blue color. Photo by: Ford Inside, Ford continues the 80s vibe with unique perforated leather inserts, incorporating black and white elements that mimic the plaid seats found in Mustangs from that era, playing a great trick on the eyes. Best of all, the inserts are available on the standard buckets and the optional Recaro seats. Ford uses City Silver and Adriatic Blue stitching throughout the cabin, including the doors, dash, seats, and steering wheel. There's even a Mustang GT badge on the dash in the FX-specific font. Photo by: Ford Photo by: Ford Also new for the upcoming model year are new seatbelt color options: International Orange, Prime Blue, and Black with a red stripe. They're available across the Mustang lineup, along with the Adriatic Blue Metallic and Orange Fury Metallic Tricoat, which was last available for 2019. The white taillights will be available in the Ford Performance Parts catalog, allowing any seventh-gen Mustang owner to add them to their car. Customers will be able to get the FX Package on the GT Premium trim with or without the Performance Package in any body style, with either transmission option. The order books for the 2026 Mustang will open later this month.
