Tattersalls Gold Cup on the agenda again for White Birch
Following almost a year off the track, White Birch made his long-awaited return in the Mooresbridge earlier this month and connections could not have been more delighted with his performance in defeat as the grey pushed last year's Irish Derby winner and Arc third Los Angeles to a neck.

George Murphy, assistant to his father, said: 'It was a great run and we couldn't be happier with him.
'He had a long time off the track and you'd be hoping he'll improve for the run. He's been in super form all spring, of course you're a bit nervous when they've been off that long but he showed himself very well and we're delighted with him.
'He seems to have come out of it well and we're looking forward to getting him out again.'
Aidan O'Brien nominated the Tattersalls Gold Cup and the Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot as likely targets for Los Angeles in the aftermath of his recent success and there appears to be every chance White Birch will take him on in both races.
'He's in the Coronation Cup at Epsom, but I'd imagine we'll go for the Tattersalls Gold Cup and go to Ascot after that – that would be the way it's looking at the moment,' Murphy added.
'He (Los Angeles) is a very good horse and I'm sure he'll be tough to beat again, but we'll look forward to it.'

August 14 - The San Diego Padres placed standout right-hander Michael King on the 15-day injured list Thursday due to left knee inflammation. King, 30, was slated to start Friday night's showdown against the host Los Angeles Dodgers. The Padres lead the Dodgers by one game in the National League West race. The Padres acquired King from the New York Yankees following the 2023 season as part of the package in which Juan Soto went to the Bronx. King went 13-9 with a 2.95 ERA in 30 starts and one relief appearance last season. He was 2-0 with a 3.75 ERA in the postseason, including striking out 12 in seven shutout innings in a win over the Atlanta Braves in Game 1 of the National League wild-card series. Rams QB Matthew Stafford set for another Saturday workout
August 14 - Matthew Stafford is not ready to practice but head coach Sean McVay and the Los Angeles Rams anticipate their starting quarterback testing the health of his balky back on Saturday. Stafford has not participated in training camp because of the back issue. He missed a targeted return-to-practice date on Monday after he tried to throw Saturday and experienced discomfort. He received an epidural injection and earlier this week was filmed by reporters entering a hyperbaric recovery trailer parked at the team practice facility. McVay said it's a "little bit of both" pain tolerance and function Stafford must overcome. "We're trying to get our hands around this as well, so I don't really have much more information other than think we're trying some different things that are hopefully going to be in alignment with getting him back out on the field," McVay said Thursday. McVay said the goal remains having Stafford in the lineup when the Houston Texans visit Los Angeles for Week 1 of the regular season on Sept. 7. That gives the organization three weeks to find answers. Backup Stetson Bennett IV completed 16 of 24 passes for 188 yards, two touchdowns and an interception last week in a 32-21 preseason home win over the Dallas Cowboys. Jimmy Garoppolo won't play in the preseason, McVay stated, and is the likely choice if the Rams need an emergency spot starter for Stafford. The Rams downplayed rumors the team would be interested in acquiring quarterback Kirk Cousins from the Falcons. Cousins and McVay have a history from their days together in Washington, and former Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris is Cousins' current coach in Atlanta, where Michael Penix Jr. is now the starter. Trump tips hand at DC-like takeovers of LA and NYC for Olympics and World Cup: ‘We'll go military if we have to'
President Donald Trump appeared to hint that he could initiate a federal takeover of Los Angeles and New York City ahead of the 2028 Olympic Games and the 2026 World Cup next year. During an Oval Office event Thursday, Trump was asked about this week's federal takeover of the police in Washington, D.C., and whether he had a response to criticism from the Democrats that the move was an attempt to 'start a new news cycle.' In response, Trump accused the Democrats and the media of lying about the crime rate in D.C. and in the same breath, launched into a spiel about the Olympics in LA. He briefly mentioned the 2026 World Cup, where the final will be held at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, which is being billed as the 'New York New Jersey Stadium' on FIFA's website. LA was confirmed as the host of the 2028 Olympics in 2017. 'People are so happy to see our military going into D.C. and getting these thugs out,' Trump claimed. 'We're getting people that have arrest records that you wouldn't believe…in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles…' Trump claimed the Olympics would not be going ahead in LA had he not sent in the National Guard in June after protests flared up in response to anti-immigration raids in the city. 'If I didn't send in the troops, I don't think you would've had Los Angeles in condition to have the Olympics,' Trump said. 'I want to make sure the Olympics is great, the World Cup is great…and maybe most important of all is the 250-year celebration is great.' He then added: 'If I didn't go and put our military there, or National Guard in that case — and we'll go military if we have to — but the National Guard were there and were very effective.' Trump has established task forces for both major sporting events and will be heavily involved in each of them. Earlier in the week, as he deployed National Guard troops into the nation's capital, Trump also threatened to wade into other cities. 'We're not going to lose our cities over this. This will go further. We're starting very strongly with D.C., and we're going to clean it up real quick,' Trump told reporters. 'We're going to take back our capital. And then we'll look at other cities also. But other cities are studying what we're doing.' The president also said this week that he expects Congress to approve the extension of his federal takeover in D.C. beyond 30 days. 'We're going to be asking for extensions on that, long-term extensions, because you can't have 30 days,' Trump said Wednesday at the Kennedy Center. Washington, D.C. is a unique case due to the Home Rule Act, which allows the president to take control of the Metropolitan Police Department for federal purposes during emergencies if 'special conditions of an emergency nature exist.' However, Trump can't deputize federal troops, including state National Guard detachments, to conduct crime-control activities without the cooperation of state leaders and a rationalization for doing so.
