Ex-Ewood hero David Dunn on son Isaac's impressive season at Rovers
David Dunn says his son Isaac has had a 'great season' in Rovers' Academy but insists he the youngster must stay grounded through the 'ups and downs' of football.
Isaac made his debut for the Under-21 side earlier this season at just 16 years of age and has since been named on the bench for the first team on a handful of occasions.
'He is still only 16, he's a young boy. But for a first-year scholar going into full-time football, I'd say he has had a great season,' his dad told The Football Faithful.
'He is a very technical player but, again, he's still got loads of growth yet. I am looking forward to watching him progress and see where it takes him because we all know that football is a really tough sport.
'There are going to be ups and downs, that is for sure. It is just about how he manages the negatives and hopefully he can have much more positives.'
David is happy to leave the football side to Isaac's coaches at Rovers but is keen to pass on his experience off the pitch.
'I just think it's important for me to mentor him off the pitch. Hopefully, I can show him what I did wrong,' he joked.
'You have to be so dedicated now in football and live your life like an elite athlete should. Football will take care of itself.
'You have got to trust the managers and the coaches that they will look after him. You just have to support him and give good advice off the pitch.'
Dunn had a spell as a coach at Rovers (Image: PA) Dunn previously coached in Rovers' Academy and was assistant manager of the Under-21 side at one stage, helping win the Premier League 2 Division Two title. He also had a spell working under Tony Mowbray with the first team squad.
'The best job I have ever had on this side of the fence was coaching at Blackburn U21s. It was a brilliant role," he reflected.
'I got so much enjoyment out of it. It is my club where I've been brought through, and watching players develop and take a similar path was extremely rewarding.'
The Academy success has continued this season, with several youngsters making their senior debuts.
Elsewhere, Adam Wharton could be involved in the FA Cup final this weekend they Crystal Palace take on Manchester City at Wembley.
'I like it when local players are given the opportunity when they come through the ranks,' Dunn added.
'I believe Blackburn have 700 consecutive appearances for having a graduate in the side and I think I was the first of those games. You see lads that have been at the club since eight or nine in the first team, which is brilliant.
'One great thing about the club is that they have always produced players, so hopefully that can continue for many years to come.'

Brentford sign goalkeeper Kelleher from Liverpool
Brentford have completed the signing of Irish international goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher from Liverpool for a reported fee of up to £18 million ($24 million). The Bees' previous number one Mark Flekken joined Bayer Leverkusen earlier on Tuesday in a deal worth around 10 million euros (£8.5 million, $11.5 million). Advertisement Kelleher played an important role in Liverpool's Premier League triumph, making 10 appearances during the absence of Alisson Becker due to injury. However, the 26-year-old was keen for more first-team action and could have fallen further down the pecking order at Anfield with the arrival of Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia. Kelleher has signed a five-year deal at Brentford with a club option of an additional season. "As well as being a very good goalkeeper, I've rarely met a player for whom everybody has such positive words to say about his personality and character," said Brentford director of football Phil Giles. Advertisement "I'm therefore confident he'll be an excellent addition to the squad." Kelleher made 67 appearances for Liverpool and leaves with two Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup, two League Cups and the UEFA Super Cup. Brentford, managed by Thomas Frank, finished 10th in the Premier League last season. kca/jw/bsp

Liverpool allow Trent Alexander-Arnold to join Real Madrid early for significant fee
Trent Alexander-Arnold will now be available for Real Madrid during the Club World Cup (Getty Images) Real Madrid will sign Trent Alexander-Arnold before the Club World Cup after Liverpool agreed to let him leave before the end of his contract for £10m. It means the right-back no longer leaves Anfield on a free transfer, as was expected upon the announcement of his departure after 20 years at the club. In addition to a flat transfer fee - which sits at approximately £8.4m - the player's wages for the month of June will also transfer to Real Madrid, making the total compensation received in the region of £10m. Alexander-Arnold departs after lifting a record-equalling Premier League title with Liverpool on Sunday - his second league crown as a Reds player, having also won the Champions League, the Club World Cup, an FA Cup and two League Cups. After talks over a new contract with his boyhood club stalled, Alexander-Arnold announced his intention to leave Liverpool at the beginning of May, which was met with hostility from a significant portion of the Liverpool fanbase. Advertisement He was booed upon his substitution against Arsenal, his first home appearance since the announcement, but got a positive sendoff as Anfield cheered him as he walked up to collect his Premier League winner's medal on the weekend. The Galacticos clearly think he could prove the difference in their pursuit of lifting the trophy, feeling his month-early arrival warrants a transfer fee worth more than 10 per cent of the competition's £97m prize money. For Liverpool, this fee will help further soften the financial hit taken by right-back replacement Jeremie Frimpong's arrival, who is set to sign from Bayer Leverkusen for a fee of £29.5m.

Thomas Tuchel explains decision to recall Ivan Toney to England squad to face Andorra and Senegal
Thomas Tuchel insists he has recalled Ivan Toney to his England squad to 'see his personality and his quality' up close ahead of the upcoming World Cup qualifier against Andorra and friendly against Senegal. The Three Lions boss has shuffled his squad, making seven changes from the group that beat Albania and Latvia, and Toney's return has seen forward Dominic Solanke drop out following Tottenham Hotspur's Europa League victory on Wednesday. Advertisement Toney, who has impressed for Saudi side Al-Ahli since a big-money move from Brentford last summer, has scored 28 goals in 42 games across all competitions en route to winning the Asian Champions League. "We follow him closely, like all the players on our list, same for Ivan,' Tuchel explained. 'We watched him a lot, he had massive contributions and decisive goals in important matches, he won a big title with his club, the Asian Champions League. 'I didn't have the opportunity to see him live in Saudi, so we took the opportunity to fly him into our camp and watch him in the group, see his personality and his quality. 'He'll compete with Harry, of course, our No. 9, and Ollie Watkins, we have three strikers.' Advertisement There is a first senior call-up for Chelsea's Trevoh Chalobah, whose versatility could appeal to Tuchel, having operated at both centre-back and right-back since returning to Stamford Bridge after a loan to Crystal Palace earlier this season. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Conor Gallagher, Noni Madueke, Bukayo Saka and Ollie Watkins return, while Morgan Gibbs-White, who was a late call-up due to injuries, is also included. While Eberechi Eze remains in the squad after inspiring Crystal Palace to FA Cup glory and scoring eight times in 11 games for the Eagles.
