Tottenham Hotspur women's team coach Robert Vilahamn sacked after poor season

Tottenham Hotspur has sacked its women's team coach, Robert Vilahamn, after the club finished 11th in the Women's Super League, the club said on Sunday.
Like the men's side this season, the women's team also finished one spot above the relegation zone, recording only five wins from 22 matches.
Swedish coach Vilahamn had guided Spurs to sixth the previous year while it also finished runner-up in the FA Cup.
But this season it suffered some heavy defeats by Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City, finishing the campaign without a win in its last 10 league games.

'There have been some special moments during Robert's tenure, including reaching the FA Cup final for the first time,' the club said in a statement.
'However, results and performances this season have not been to the level we would expect, and now is the right time to make a change. We should like to thank Robert for his professionalism and efforts over the past two seasons, and we wish him well for the future,' it added.
Vilahamn's departure comes two days after the club sacked men's team coach Ange Postecoglou. The Australian ended the club's 17-year trophy drought by winning the Europa League, but Spurs finished 17th in the Premier League.

Neymar Jr's big Santos return postponed yet again after testing positive for Covid

Image Source: Getty Neymar Jr ., again, would be out of action as Santos FC confirmed that he tested positive for COVID-19. The 33-year-old forward had been isolated since Thursday after developing symptoms but is now under home quarantine with medical observation. This latest health issue arrives at a critical juncture as this weekend is Santos' final game before the Brazilian top flight takes a break for the Club World Cup, with the club already setting up a showdown with Fortaleza. Neymar Jr. would, unfortunately, miss this match due to an earlier red card suspension. The new COVID case raises a question mark over the Brazilian star's immediate future at the club, as his contract is set to expire at the end of June. Playing time disrupted for Neymar Jr because of health woes Not even halfway through his much-anticipated return to his childhood team in January, Neymar has had a rocky six months at Santos. Hampered by ongoing injuries, he has only managed a total of just 12 appearances across all competitions in this campaign so far, with three goals and three assists to his name. He kicked off his competitive campaign in promising shape, scoring as Santos beat Água Santa in February and was man of the match in that fixture. But fitness problems, particularly muscle issues, have repeatedly arrested that momentum. Add the COVID‑19 illness to that, and the team will now miss him for the next few matches as he seeks to regain some consistency. Future at Santos hangs in the balance Santos had initially trumpeted Neymar's return as a fairy-tale homecoming. It was seen by some as a way to pave the way for returning to the top at the FIFA Club World Cup and keep himself available for Brazil's 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Also Read: Who is Neymar Jr. dating now? Inside Bruna Biancardi's life, career, and relationship with the football star Yet, with his contract expiring at the end of the month, and with no announcement yet of a new deal, concerns are escalating for both his fans and the club. Santos is set to throw in off-pitch privileges to keep him on the roster, according to reports, but nothing has been set in stone. In the meantime, his supporters can only grapple with the unavailability of their most important signing on a basis far more transcendent than performance. Santos heads to the Club World Cup break leading Fortaleza, and the Neymar health watch continues for the club. The campaign could use a full stop in the middle of its duration to strengthen the strategic planning of the team, but the answer to the question that club officials and supporters are asking among themselves is: will the Brazilian genius take part on the field again before his deal expires?

Tennis-Strong field as women's event returns to Queen's after 52-year gap

LONDON, - Top tier women's tennis returns to Queen's Club for the first time in more than half a century on Monday with the start of the WTA 500 event at the prestigious London establishment. While the men's event has become one of the key dates in the grasscourt season and the build-up to Wimbledon, a women's tournament was last held in 1973. In effect, Olga Morozova can claim to have been the reigning champion for 52 years, but not for much longer. A high-quality field have assembled in south west London including Olympic champion Zheng Quinwen, reigning Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova, current Australian champion Madison Keys and former Wimbledon winner Elena Rybakina. There will also be strong home interest with Emma Raducanu, Sonay Kartal and Katie Boulter all in the draw. "I've actually always said to myself, I wish there was a women's event here," Boulter said in the build-up. "I wish I got the chance to play on this court, because you can feel the history and you can feel how incredible it is." One thing is for sure, it will feel a world away from when Morozova won the title with a wooden racket, spent the week staying in a cheap bed and breakfast in Earl's Court and took a public bus to the courts for her matches. She earned 1,000 pounds for her work that week, although coming from the former Soviet Union meant she could not keep it. The inaugural version of the revamped event will boast total prize money of $1.415 million, the highest for a WTA 500 event of its draw size on the Tour, with the singles champion receiving a cool $164,000. Organisers say, they plan to have equal prize-money with the men's event, which takes place the following week, by 2029. The ATP event has a total prize fund of $2.87 million. The WTA 250 event in Eastbourne will take place from June 23-28, in the week before Wimbledon. "We are making significant increases this year to the women's prize money at Queen's and Eastbourne and want to achieve equal prize money as soon as possible," Lawn Tennis Association chief executive Scott Lloyd said in a statement. "The LTA is committed to growing women's tennis, both at professional and grass-roots level and this move is an important part of that commitment."

'If I Get The Nod...': Allrounder Beau Webster Eyes WTC Final Appearance

Last Updated: Beau Webster offers Australia a valuable allrounder option, especially since Cameron Green is unable to bowl due to a back injury. Beau Webster aims to make the already memorable year 2025 even more special by playing for Australia in the World Test Championship final against South Africa at Lord's. Webster earned his first of three Test caps in January and was part of the team in Australia 's recent red-ball international against Sri Lanka in February. The 31-year-old allrounder is eager for the opportunity to play for the World Test champions on the revered ground at Lord's. 'It's pretty special. I've been here a couple of times to watch a few games throughout the years, but to be out in the middle, yeah, extra special," he told reporters at Lord's on Sunday. 'If I get the nod, I'm looking forward to Wednesday." Averaging exactly 50 with the bat in Test cricket and being a lively medium-pacer, Webster offers Australia a valuable allrounder option, especially since Cameron Green is unable to bowl due to a back injury. Including Webster would lighten the load on Australia's main pace bowlers and senior spinner Nathan Lyon. Fast bowler Josh Hazlewood noted, 'I remember back to when we didn't have one (an all-rounder) and it was brutal. It was tough work. It just sort of snowballs if you don't have that all-rounder and you're just continually bowling." Webster commented, 'When you go into a game and you've got three front-line quicks and a spinner, it's always nice to have a guy who can potentially get you a wicket or two, keep the big boys fresh for another spell or the second innings. That's my role in the team and if they (Australia's selectors) decide to go that way, I'll give my best," said the Tasmanian, who has taken three Test wickets. Webster approaches the final with recent experience in English conditions and familiarity with the Dukes ball, following a stint with county side Warwickshire. 'It's always nice to get over here and get amongst the Dukes ball," he said. 'Obviously, it reacts differently here with the swing and the bounce, so to have four games at Warwickshire… I think it's the best prep I could have given myself going into this Test." While swing is relatively short-lived in Australian conditions, Webster sees it as a useful asset in England. 'Over here, you're sort of always up against the swinging ball," he said. 'One reason why I keep coming over here is to try and get better in these conditions." Despite appreciating his time with Warwickshire, Webster mentioned that his new wife was less enthused about the weather during their 'honeymoon'. 'She probably would have rather somewhere a bit more sunny than Birmingham," said Webster. 'But I'm sure we'll get away at some point in the next few months after the cricket's done and take time to celebrate then."
