Influential leaders to convene at Energy Asia 2025 to advance energy transition
KUALA LUMPUR: The 'Energy Asia 2025' conference, themed 'Delivering Asia's Energy Transition', from June 16 to 18, will be an opportune moment for Malaysia and the region to take stock of progress made towards energy transition objectives and reinforce national commitments to achieving net-zero goals.
The conference is timely, coming at a critical juncture in economic diversification and sustainable development, as nations transition from traditional oil to renewable energy and embrace new technologies such as hydrogen and carbon capture.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to deliver a keynote address and officiate the event, which will feature 180 globally renowned speakers and attract over 4,000 delegates, including policymakers, energy professionals and industry leaders.
Highlights of the conference include a plenary session on 'Energy Present, Energy Future: Pathways for Asia's Just Transition', followed by a leadership dialogue on 'Energy at the Crossroads: Policies, Technologies and Investments'.
There will also be a closed-door gathering of global chief executive officers (CEOs) and C-suite leaders from key sectors, including oil and gas, energy, technology, finance and professional services.
The aim is to forge collective pathways that unlock investment, strengthen coordination and accelerate the deployment of technologies to advance Asia's energy transition.
By bringing together high-ranking corporate and ministerial figures, the conference will address Asia's key energy issues across seven themes: geopolitics, market strategies, power transition, technology and innovation, capital markets, sustainability and talent development.
Prominent officials scheduled to attend include Petronas president and group CEO and chairman of Energy Asia Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik; Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) secretary general Haitham Al Ghais; Saudi Aramco president and CEO Amin Nasser; and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) Economics & Technology Research Institute president Dr Lu Ruquan.
Complementing the executive conference is the Energy Park – an interactive experience hub designed to spark ideas, inspire action and chart the course of Asia's energy transition.
It brings together a vibrant community of technologists, entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and corporate innovators.

"MCA will remain in BN"
PORT DICKSON: Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has expressed confidence that MCA will remain in the coalition, despite speculation of an internal push for the party to leave. Zahid, who is also Umno president, said MCA and MIC are key components in the formation of BN. "There's no such thing (as MCA leaving BN). "If it were happening, I'd hear it directly from MCA president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong. "Perhaps there are movements by certain quarters; I've been told about that, but the decision of their central committee suggests otherwise. The issue reportedly stems from growing dissatisfaction among MCA grassroots leaders, who feel the party has been sidelined by Umno. Zahid said MCA had struggled in the 14th and 15th general elections, having failed to retain their seats. He said Umno must treat its component party allies with respect and offer assistance when needed. "Umno must support our friends when they're in trouble. "This is the spirit of BN that we must strengthen, and I am confident our partners will continue to stand with the BN coalition," he said. On a separate matter, Zahid, who is also the rural and regional development, affirmed that BN will continue using the 'dacing' (scales) symbol in the next general election (GE16). "I have said that for GE16, we will continue to use the scales symbol, and BN component parties will be allocated seats to contest. "Though the election is still far off, that is the decision we have made," he said. On another matter, Zahid said the opposition's planned 'Turun Anwar' rally, scheduled for July 26, would not succeed. He said the plan reveals the true colours of the opposition, who had previously engaged in political betrayal and are attempting to do so again. "So we need not worry about that kind of behaviour.

New Sepak Takraw Academy to nurture talent, host matches, and boost PSM income with RM6 million MADANI Government funding.
KOTA BHARU: The setting up of the Malaysian Sepak Takraw Academy is expected to serve as a catalyst for the development of new talent in the sport as well as pave the way for the Malaysian Sepak Takraw Association (PSM) to generate new sources of income. Chairman of the Athletes Education Committee under the PSM Sepak Takraw Development Bureau, Prof Dr Mohad Anizu Mohd Nor said the immediate allocation of RM6 million announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday would enable the academy to be fully equipped and function comprehensively. He said it would serve as a training centre, official match venue, administrative office and also provide dormitory facilities. 'This allows PSM to train more new grassroot talents besides generating income when it can attract international collaboration for promotion and training, besides organising competitions,' he told Bernama. According to Mohad Anizu, the academy is also expected to strengthen the status of sepak takraw which has the potential to be re-instated as a national core sport after being dropped in 2017. 'A rebranding of PSM is also being pursued so that this academy remains relevant as the official national sepak takraw training centre,' he said. Yesterday, the MADANI Government agreed to expedite the approval of allocations for the establishment of the Malaysian Sepak Takraw Academy, so that it can materialise by year-end. Anwar was reported to have said that the government would ensure that the proposal to establish the academy becomes a reality.
