Head coach Dave Canales revealed some of his plans for the first two preseason games in an interview on Up & Adams this past Friday.
"My plan is to play a series or two with the starters for the first two preseason games," Canales told host Kay Adams. "So, I'm excited to get them out there. It goes beyond just the reps in the game. It's the night before, it's the morning of, it's what you eat, it's how you mentally prepare, it's going through your process of body readiness going into the game. Those are valuable reps—as much as going out there actually playing the game."
The Panthers will host the Browns from Bank of America Stadium on Friday, with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m. ET.

Davante Adams wants Travis Hunter to succeed, doubts anyone can play both ways long-term
Davante Adams knows how hard it can be on a wide receiver's body to play game after game for a decade. And that's why Adams doubts that Jaguars rookie Travis Hunter can have a long career playing both wide receiver and cornerback. Adams was asked on The Pivot Podcast which players he's most looking forward to seeing this season, and he named Hunter as his top choice. 'One, Travis Hunter. I want to see Travis Hunter do his thing,' Adams said. But Adams said that while he's impressed with Hunter becoming a superstar two-way player in college at Colorado, Adams has his doubts that even a player of Hunter's talent can be an elite contributor on both offense and defense. 'I don't even think it's possible to do, for real. Not at a high level,' Adams said. Adams said he could see Hunter having an impact early in his career on both sides of the ball, but questions whether it's fair to him to expect him to take the wear and tear on his body of being a full-time player on both offense and defense. 'I'm not even concerned so much if he can do it over the course of a game or season, it's more like how long is his career going to be if he's playing that many snaps?' Adams said. 'Once you get out there playing both sides, now you have to tackle. You've got to tackle Derrick Henry with that frame.' A handful of players in modern football have played significant snaps on both offense and defense, but no one has had a long career as a full-time contributor on both sides of the ball in more than half a century. If there's anyone who can do it, it's Hunter. But Adams doubts there's anyone who can do it.

Mike Vrabel's memory of QB Kliff Kingsbury: "He wasn't better than Tom Brady"
It was over 20 years ago, but Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel and Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury were teammates for one season together with New England. Vrabel was a veteran linebacker entering his third season with the club when the Patriots selected Kingsbury at No. 201 overall in the sixth round of the 2003 draft. Kingsbury spent that season on injured reserve as the team went on to win Super Bowl XXXVIII over the Panthers. With enough depth at quarterback, the Patriots cut Kingsbury at the start of the 2004 regular season. So what does Vrabel remember about being Kingsbury's teammate? 'He wasn't better than Tom Brady,' Vrabel said in his Wednesday press conference, eliciting some laughter. 'Kliff's a good friend. I mean there's a handful of coaches over there that I've played with in the league whether that's a year, or in Larry [Izzo]'s case, eight years. So, they've got a good staff, they've got a good mix of guys that played in this league and other guys that didn't, but that's a good coaching staff that they have. 'Kliff's really done a nice job everywhere he's been, offensively.' Kingsbury's NFL career may not have gotten very far, but he did get a Super Bowl ring from that victory over the Panthers. Vrabel helped make it happen on both sides of the ball, catching a 1-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter of the season's final game.
