'India Backed Out': Pakistan Champions Refuse To Share Points After WCL Match Called Off
Eventually, the match, slated to be held on Sunday (July 20) was called off.
WCL says that the Indian Champions team wasn't at fault for the match not going ahead.
'WCL have conveyed to England and Wales Cricket Board that they, as organisers, were not able to conduct this match. The India Champions team are not at fault. Pakistan Champions team are not willing to share points because they are saying that it is India who backed out, not them," ANI quoted a source as saying.
The second edition of WCL got underway last week with Pakistan beating England by five runs. India, led by Yuvraj Singh, were to open their campaign against Pakistan.
They will take the field for the first time this edition against South Africa tonight.
Dhawan's Statement On Not Playing Against Pakistan
Former India opener Dhawan said he had already communicated his decision with the WCL organisers in May this year.
'This is to formally reiterate that Mr Shikhar Dhawan will not be participating in any matches against the Pakistan team in the upcoming WCL League. This discussion was communicated earlier during our discussion on call and WhatsApp dated 11th May 2025," Dhawan shared a screenshot of his statement.
'In view of our current geopolitical situation and prevailing tensions between India and Pakistan, Mr Dhawan and his team have taken this position after due consideration. We respectfully request the league's understanding and cooperation on this matter," it added.
What Happens If India And Pakistan Reach WCL Knockouts?
In the scenario of both India and Pakistan reaching WCL semifinals, an official claims that a clash between the two teams will be avoided.
'As for the semifinals and final, we're currently saying that if we make it to the semifinals, there will be four teams, and we will avoid matches between the two teams," Pakistan Champions owner Kamil Khan told GeoNews.
However, there's no clarity on what happens if they reach the title clash as was the case last season when India won the competition.
Kamil also claimed Pakistan Champions should be awarded two points for the abandoned fixture with India. 'And as for this match, the two points will be awarded to us, and we deserve those points as per the rules," he said.

Sourav Ganguly is 'okay' with India playing Pakistan in Asia Cup: 'Terrorism must not happen, but sports must go on'
The 2025 Asia Cup will be held in the UAE from September 9 to 28, with India and Pakistan placed in the same group and scheduled to face each other on September 14 in Dubai. India begin their campaign against UAE on September 10, with their group consisting of Pakistan, UAE and Oman, while Group B features Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Hong Kong. Former BCCI President Sourav Ganguly reacted to India playing Pakistan in the Asia Cup(PTI) As per the ACC's broadcaster agreement, India and Pakistan are to be clubbed in the same group, with another guaranteed face-off in the Super Four stage and the possibility of a third meeting if both reach the final. Although BCCI is the designated host of the event, the tournament will be held in the UAE due to the mutual agreement between India and Pakistan to play at neutral venues until 2027, in light of the ongoing diplomatic tensions. The decision to proceed with the India-Pakistan fixtures has drawn criticism from sections of Indian fans following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. Many former cricketers had expressed their opposition to India playing against Pakistan in the wake of the attack. Reacting to the concerns, however, former India captain and ex-BCCI president Sourav Ganguly stated he has no concern with the two teams meeting on the field. "I am okay. The sport must go on. At the same time Pahalgam should not happen, but the sport must go on. Terrorism must not happen; it needs to be stopped. India took a strong stance towards terrorism... Sport needs to be played," Ganguly told ANI. WCL match cancelled The decision to play against Pakistan in the Asia Cup comes just days after India's World Championship of Legends (WCL) team pulled out of a fixture against Pakistan Champions. The Champions side, captained by Yuvraj Singh and comprising several former India players, pulled out of the game hours before it was scheduled. The Asia Cup will feature 19 matches across Dubai and Abu Dhabi, with the ACC allowing 17-member squads. 'This year marks yet another milestone in ACC's journey… This will be Asia Cup at its finest,' said ACC president Mohsin Naqvi. All 25 member nations approved the venue during a meeting on July 24.

India vs Pakistan (File Photo) The upcoming Asia Cup 2025 is already generating headlines, not just for its blockbuster fixtures but also for the political tension surrounding them. Scheduled from September 9 to 28 in the UAE, the tournament sees India and Pakistan once again drawn in the same group, setting the stage for potential multiple high-voltage encounters. While acknowledging the national sentiment, Ganguly maintained a firm but balanced stance. 'I am okay. The sport must go on. At the same time, Pahalgam should not happen. Terrorism must not happen; it needs to be stopped. India took a strong stance towards terrorism... Sport needs to be played,' he told ANI. His comments come amid growing criticism following the Asia Cup draw. The backlash intensified after Pakistan's Danish Kaneria questioned India's participation, drawing a contrast with India's withdrawal from the World Championship of Legends (WCL) clash against Pakistan in July due to patriotic reasons. The Asia Cup will be played in the T20 format, acting as a tune-up for the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. Poll Are you excited about the T20 format of the Asia Cup? Very excited! Somewhat excited Not very excited Not interested at all For the first time, eight teams are participating. Group A includes India, Pakistan, UAE, and Oman; Group B includes Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Hong Kong. India begin their campaign against UAE on September 10 and faces Pakistan on September 14, a fixture already considered among the biggest in world sport. If both teams advance, they could meet again in the Super Four stage and possibly even in the final on September 28, making for a potential triple showdown.
