Diamondbacks Rare Trade Chips Could Transform MLB Deadline
Diamondbacks Rare Trade Chips Could Transform MLB Deadline originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Entering Friday, the Arizona Diamondbacks found themselves in a precarious spot: 34-34, fourth in the National League West. They're seventh in the NL Wild Card race, sitting 4 1/2 games behind the San Diego Padres for the final spot.

Arizona's path to the postseason took a major hit with the loss of Corbin Burnes, who's out for the season following Tommy John surgery. The pitching woes may deepen, as reliever Justin Martinez could also be facing surgery for a UCL sprain.
While the standings and injuries have sparked interest from other clubs, MLB.com's Mark Feinsand reported that general manager Mike Hazen still hopes his team can stay in the buyer's conversation as the trade deadline approaches.

'I'm hopeful this is going to turn around and we put ourselves in the conversation to be buying,' Hazen said earlier this week. 'I hope the players put us in a conversation to be buying a month from now, a month-and-a-half from now, but we got to get going.'

Even though Hazen remains hopeful Arizona can climb back into contention, he knows what comes with their current position in the standings: plenty of inquiries about his roster.
'When you're sitting in the standings where we are, it's inevitable, you're going to start receiving phone calls about your players,' Hazen said. 'We have a lot of good players, so I'd imagine we would get a lot of phone calls. It's not something necessarily that we want to be tackling right now, but it's not stopping anybody from calling you to ask where you're at.'
Hazen may not want to engage in those talks yet, but that decision could be forced on him if the team struggles.

Paige Bueckers Reaches Impressive Career Milestone in Return From Injury
Paige Bueckers Reaches Impressive Career Milestone in Return From Injury originally appeared on Athlon Sports. When the Dallas Wings secured the No. 1 overall pick in the WNBA Draft Lottery, it was clear they had their sights set on one player — former UConn star and national champion Paige Bueckers. Advertisement Bueckers has impressed early in her rookie campaign, showcasing the skills that made her one of the most highly anticipated prospects in years. However, her strong start was briefly interrupted after she entered concussion protocol, forcing her to miss the Wings' last four games. On Wednesday night, Bueckers made her much-anticipated return as the 1–9 Wings faced the Phoenix Mercury — and she didn't miss a beat. She came out firing, knocking down her first six shots from the field and finishing the first half with 22 points, five rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block. Her first-half performance wasn't just impactful — it was historic. According to "Polymarket Hoops," Bueckers became the fourth-fastest rookie in WNBA history to record at least 100 points, 25 rebounds, and 25 assists. The only players to achieve the milestone faster were Caitlin Clark, Candace Parker, and Cynthia Cooper. Entering Wednesday night, through six regular season games, Bueckers was averaging an impressive 14.7 points, 6.7 assists, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game. She's also been efficient, shooting 43.7% from the field, 33.3% from 3-point range, and 80.8% from the free-throw line. Their 1–9 record is currently the worst in the league. However, there's room for optimism — three of their next four opponents after Wednesday's matchup against the Mercury have sub-.500 records, giving Dallas a real opportunity to start turning things around. Paige Bueckers Makes Unexpected Food Admission: 'It's Just Gross to Me'
Paige Bueckers Makes Unexpected Food Admission: 'It's Just Gross to Me' originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Dallas Wings star Paige Bueckers is off to a historic start to her rookie season in the WNBA. While her team has struggled to win games, the former UConn Huskies star has been showing everyone why she's the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 draft. Advertisement Through her first eight games of the season, Bueckers averaged 17.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 1.9 steals per game while shooting 46.8% from the field. In a recent game against the Phoenix Mercury, the 23-year-old even made history. Not only did Bueckers become the fourth-fastest rookie ever to record at least 100 points, 25 rebounds and 25 assists, but she also joined Caitlin Clark as the only rookies ever to have a 35-point game with five made 3-pointers. Now that Bueckers is establishing herself as a star in the league, the WNBA is seizing the chance to introduce her more deeply to fans. In a video posted Friday before Dallas' game against the Las Vegas Aces, the Wings guard answered career and personal questions. Dallas Wings guard Paige Bueckers (5) reacts against the Phoenix J. Rebilas-Imagn Images Interestingly, when Bueckers was asked to share something that people don't know about her, she shared the fact that she doesn't like seafood. She proceeded to explain the reason why, noting that it's partly because of the 2004 animated film "Shark Tale." Advertisement "I think Shark Tales," Bueckers answered when asked if there's a "traumatizing" reason for her dislike of seafood. "Like the little shrimps, it was just so sad." However, Bueckers did admit that she generally doesn't like food that "tastes too fishy." "It's just gross to me," she added about seafood. Aside from her food admission, Paige Bueckers also discussed what she has learned from her WNBA career so far, sharing that learning terminology in the pros, adjusting to a new system and the physicality in the league have been quite the experience for her. She also revealed that she has taken a "huge social media break," so she hasn't seen as many of the TikTok edits that she was asked about. Pascal Siakam Joins LeBron James in History Amid NBA Finals
Pascal Siakam Joins LeBron James in History Amid NBA Finals originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Indiana Pacers' remarkable run to the NBA Finals has been defined by fast-paced scoring, stingy defense and clutch shooting, as the No. 4–seeded team knocked off the Milwaukee Bucks and Cleveland Cavaliers before defeating the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals to earn a spot on basketball's biggest stage. Advertisement Pascal Siakam has been instrumental throughout, providing Indiana with extensive championship experience and veteran leadership. During the 2024-25 regular season, he averaged 20.2 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game on 51.9 percent shooting from the field across 78 contests. Through 20 playoff games, Siakam has logged 33.4 minutes per night while averaging 20.6 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists, along with 1.2 steals and 0.6 blocks per contest. Advertisement In Game 4, Siakam delivered a defensive masterclass—recording four steals in the first quarter—a feat unmatched in any NBA Finals quarter since LeBron James achieved the same in the 2014 Finals. That 2014 series saw James average 28.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals over five games, while shooting 57.1 percent from the floor. Despite his two-way brilliance and one of the greatest Finals performances in history, Miami fell to the Spurs 4–1. As the series shifts back to Oklahoma City for Game 5, Siakam's historic quarter stands as a testament to his two-way impact, placing him in elite company and spotlighting his pivotal role in Indiana's championship quest.
