Pro Kabaddi League Season 12 to kickstart from August 29

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], July 9 (ANI): The Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) announced on Wednesday that Season 12 of the competition will commence on Friday, August 29.
Season 12 will see reigning champions Haryana Steelers return to defend their maiden title, following their spectacular victory in Season 11. The competitive balance of the league continues to showcase the unpredictability that has made PKL one of India's most exciting sporting spectacles.
With all twelve franchises strengthening their squads through the recently concluded auction, the upcoming season promises to deliver unprecedented levels of competition and entertainment.
The venues and other details for Season 12 will be announced soon.
Commenting on the commencement of season 12, Anupam Goswami, Business Head - Mashal & League Commissioner - Pro Kabaddi, stated as quoted by PKL press release, 'We are thrilled to unveil the commencement date for PKL Season 12. Following a record-breaking Player Auction, which saw 10 players cross the INR 1 crore mark, we have set a foundation for what promises to be our most competitive season yet. We look forward to bringing fans another thrilling chapter of kabaddi action.'
The highly anticipated Pro Kabaddi League season 12 Player Auction took place in Mumbai on May 31 and June 1, where a record-breaking 10 players secured contracts exceeding Rs. 1 crore, setting a new benchmark for the competition.
Under the aegis and sanction from the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India (AKFI), Mashal Sports and JioStar have built PKL into one of India's most successful sports leagues. The Pro Kabaddi League has transformed India's indigenous sport of Kabaddi and its athletes on the national and global stage. (ANI)

Karnataka High Court to government: Pay para swimmer pending reward, Rs 2L litigation costs
Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court Monday directed the department of youth services and sports to pay para swimming champion KS Vishwas more than Rs 1.2 lakh as a pending cash award and Rs 2 lakh in litigation costs. In a sharp rebuke to the department's almost a decade-long delay, the court ruled that officials must personally bear the litigation costs. Vishwas, 36, had approached the court after multiple attempts to secure his entitled reward under a 2013 govt order had gone unanswered. Though he had applied in 2018 for Rs 6 lakh, the department stalled his claim, citing technicalities related to his association's disqualification. "The focus must not be on bureaucratic technicalities, but on the living human spirit that triumphed against colossal odds. The govt's duty is not merely administrative; it has to be moral, constitutional, and humane. When a man without arms dives into pools and emerges not just victorious but triumphant on the international stage, the state is expected to salute that spirit, not stifle his rights by red-tapism," the court observed.

GCDA likely to invite PMC for Ambedkar Sports City project next week
Kochi: Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) is likely to invite the tender for project management consultancy (PMC) for the construction of Ambedkar Sports City project next week. A GCDA source said the authority prepared a preliminary design of the project and the consultancy will prepare a final design. The authority plans to implement the project using corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds. The total estimated cost is Rs 90 crore. "We have already selected three public sector firms for spending their CSR funds on the project. Discussion with more agencies is going on," the source said. The project is being implemented after demolishing the existing Ambedkar Stadium. The stadium, located in the city centre, was in a dilapidated condition. It was around two years ago that the executive committee of GCDA granted approval for the demolition of the existing stadium to set up a sports city. The design of the new stadium is almost finalised. As part of the construction work, GCDA already completed the demolition of the galleries of the existing stadium. The demolition work was completed using Rs 2 crore. A new football stadium will be constructed along with other sports facilities. Apart from sports infrastructure, lighting and toilet facilities will be arranged. There will be an exclusive parking area for the new stadium.
