2025 HAWANA Carnival Gives Chance For Public To Experience Becoming A Journalist
One of them, Nurimshah Muhammad Yaseen, 20, said her interest in the field, particularly in becoming a news presenter, inspired her to attend the three-day carnival.
'So far, I have only seen journalists on television, but this time I got the chance to experience what it's like to report on an actual incident, the Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) bus accident incident, at the Bernama Radio and Media Prima booths,' she told Bernama.
She shared that she also had the chance to audition for an acting role at the RTM booth, describing the experience as meaningful and unforgettable.
Having recently completed his diploma in software, Nurimshah expressed hope that programmes like this would continue to be organised annually, as they help bring the public closer to the real world of journalism and media.
Another visitor, Ismail Mohd Azlan, 49, said the carnival provided the best opportunity for the public to get to know the role of the media.
'Usually, we only see artist performances at shopping malls, but this time, we saw mini news and radio studios brought here. It provided exposure and thus attracted the public's interest in journalism.
'Carnivals like this are good for bringing the public closer to journalists. Visitors can also ask directly about how to channel complaints to journalists about local issues and problems,' he said.
Ismail, who is a technician, said that the visit to the Selangor Media booth also opened his eyes to the existence of newspapers under the Selangor government.

In the case of Muhammad Nazmi Rosli, 32, however, he only picked up the hobby when he was 18 and now boasts a collection of over 3,000 figurines of superheroes, including Marvel's 'X-Men' and DC Comics' 'Superman'. For this young man who teaches English at a primary school in Lawas, Sarawak, it is more than a hobby. According to him, he draws inspiration and motivation from the figurine characters to better understand his students' personalities. "I've observed many weaknesses in these (superhero) characters, which reflect on the students I teach. Every student has a different personality shaped by their home environment, which influences them. "Without realising it, a student may have abilities that others do not, and this happens a lot in the comic world. It is something that triggers, and by reading these comics, I know I should not just see (judge) them within the classroom,' he said when contacted by Bernama recently. The father of two believes collecting figurines also helps him to be more creative in educating his students, most of whom live in rural areas, including designing teaching aids inspired by the superhero characters. "(For example) I took inspiration from Marvel's 'X-Men' comic 'Danger Room' to help my students grasp a real picture of the outside world since they have no chance to experience it. For example, I built a swimming pool using plastic,' he said, adding that he usually sources figurines for his collection from second-hand shops and online. He also said he saves part of his salary to buy limited-edition items and had even worked as a building painter after completing his Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examination to buy the figurines he wanted. He showcases his collection on racks at home, though only about 1,000 pieces can be on display at any given time. The rest of the figurines are stored in boxes. "Every night, if I have time, I will play and interact with them. Since my racks have space for only 1,000 figurines, I would rotate them weekly so that all the items in my collection have a chance to be displayed,' he said. He said the prices of the figurines vary depending on their popularity and market demand, and can sometimes go up to thousands of ringgit each. "For example, a Marvel character figurine was once sold at its original price of RM190, but it dropped to RM25 because its appearance in the film was so brief,' he said. Although he has received criticism for having a hobby deemed unsuitable for the teaching profession, Nazmi maintains a positive stance. "There will always be negative perceptions. Klang students train 300 hours for Merdeka human graphic performance
KLANG: A total of 2,000 students from 50 schools across Selangor have dedicated nearly 300 hours to perfect their human graphic performance for the upcoming National Day celebration. The event will take place at Dataran Putrajaya on August 31, showcasing a blend of choreography and choir performances. Chief Coach Ahmad Hafiz Awaludin revealed that participants were selected in May, with training commencing in July to align with this year's theme, 'Malaysia MADANI: Rakyat Disantuni'. Initial training was conducted at individual schools using the Training of Trainers (ToT) concept before combined rehearsals began in early August. Students trained eight hours daily from Monday to Thursday over two months to ensure flawless execution. 'The training period is longer compared to previous years, as the human graphic performance will be complemented by a choir performance,' Ahmad Hafiz told Bernama during a session at KSL Esplanade Hotel. He emphasised the need for extra preparation time to integrate both elements seamlessly. The rigorous training has also prepared students for unpredictable weather, as the performance will be held on an open-air stage. Ahmad Hafiz noted that preparations are now 80 per cent complete, with the remaining time focused on refining movements and choreography. This year's performance will feature dynamic routines set to 12 songs, including a medley of 'Wau Bulan', 'Bapak Mek Datang', 'Dia Datang', and 'Sayang Kinabalu'.
