The beautiful country of Oman is all but a stone's throw away, full of natural beauty and astonishing history waiting to be explored. And if you're wondering how to get to Oman from the UAE, you've come to the right place. While taking a (hilariously) short flight to our neighbour's doorstep is always an option, some of us might not be game for the hassle of heading to the airport. Fortunately for us living on this side of the border, there are many ways we can get there. Not only are some of them easy and pocket-friendly, but they could also be a fun little activity if you're feeling a bit worse for wear or in need of a quick getaway to refresh yourself. Daycations, staycations and vacations – all are a possibility. Here are all the ways you can travel to Oman. By air If you're looking for an easy breezy in-and-out of the country, taking a flight might be your best option, mostly because of how short the journey is. A flight to Muscat International Airport from any airport in the UAE will last around 45 minutes to an hour. Flights are available daily from Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah at reasonable rates. If you're flying from Dubai, Emirates and FlyDubai have round-trip flights starting from Dhs1,245 and Dhs805 respectively. Air Arabia from Sharjah starts at Dhs1,168 for a roundtrip. By road Buses You can take a bus to multiple destinations within Oman, including Muscat, Sohar and Salalah. Mwasalat, Oman's national transportation company has a bus route to Abu Dhabi via Al Ain to Oman. There is also a route between the UAE and Oman by Oman's national transport company Mwasalat, connecting the two countries between Sharjah and Muscat. For Dubai, residents can use the bus services through Al Khanjry Transport. Operating daily, this service provides daily services at 7am, 3pm, and 9pm from the office of Al Khanjry Transport in Dubai, at Dhs95 per ticket for one-way. Bus rides to Oman take approximately six hours and includes rest stops, immigration services and more. From Muscat to Abu Dhabi, buses will depart from the Azaiba bus station in Muscat at 6.30am and arrive at the Abu Dhabi bus station at 3.40pm. From Abu Dhabi to Muscat, buses will depart Abu Dhabi at 10.45am and arrive at the Azaiba bus station at 8.35pm. A one-way ticket for the ride will cost you Dhs109.70 or 11.5 Omani Riyals. As for baggage allowance, passengers will be able to bring up to 23kg of big luggage and up to 7kg of hand baggage. By car The road network connection from the UAE to Oman is made up of multiple border posts, routes and fantastic highways that will make driving a breeze. The journey takes approximately five hours, and is perfect for a quick road trip getaway. If you love taking long drives, it might be a little more convenient than the bus, considering you can stop and drive according to your convenience. The most popular border post open to UAE residents for crossing is Hatta – Al Wajajah. This post is closest to Dubai and Sharjah. Al Darah is closest to Ras Al Khaimah, whereas Dibba and Khatmat Milaha are connected via Fujairah. For Abu Dhabi residents, the Mezyad border post is the best option. Safe travels! Al Maya Island & Resort If you want to relax but also like a party atmosphere then this could be ideal: Al Maya has one of the best beaches in Abu Dhabi for a party. There are also several food and beverage outlets, volleyball courts, sports activities, washrooms, changing rooms and showers. Free. Open daily 8am-sunset. Al Bateen Beach, Khalifa Al Mubarak Street, off Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street. Corniche beach You've probably driven past it lots of times but have you ever spent a day on the beach on the Corniche? It's one of the best beaches in Abu Dhabi for a quick trip. The pristine beachfront is a fantastic family spot on which to enjoy a relaxed day. The seaside boardwalk is four miles long and the walkways are paved and dotted with benches and gardens that overlook the ocean. Surrounding the Corniche beach there are children's play areas, separate cycle and pedestrian pathways, cafés and restaurants. Dhs10 for adults and Dh5 for kids over five, Dhs25 per sun lounger. Open daily 8am-8pm. Corniche Rd. Kai Beach Saadiyat Looking for the best beach not just in Abu Dhabi but the whole of the Middle East? Well, you are in luck because it happens to be right here on our doorstep. The dreamy Saadiyat Island was named 'Middle East's Leading Beach Destination' for the 11th consecutive year in 2024 (yes, 11 years) and Kai Beach happens to be one of the beaches on Saadiyat's shores. Open daily from 7am to sunset, there are no reservations and entry is on a first come first served basis. Dhs150 (adults, Mon-Thu, Dhs50 redeemable on F&B), Dhs75 (kids, Mon-Thu, Dhs25 redeemable on F&B), Dhs150 (Fri, ladies only), Dhs225 (adults, Sat-Sun, Dhs50 redeemable on F&B), Dhs100 (kids, Sat-Sun, Dhs25 redeemable on F&B). Open daily 7amsunset. Kai Beach, Saadiyat Island, Hudayriat Beach Located in Hudayriat Island, this beach keeps getting better and better. There are plenty of food trucks and restaurants around for when hunger strikes (Wingstop, W.T.F. and Shrimp Pot are just some of the options), plus plenty of fun activities for kids and adults alike. We're talking kids' pool and a splash park, a volleyball court, an outdoor gym and cycle paths. Oh, and did we mention it's free? Yep, pretty awesome. Free. Open daily 8am to 7pm. Hudayriat Beach, Hudayriat Island, @marsanahudayriyat. Mamsha Beach Saadiyat Island (formerly Soul Beach) Soul Beach closed for refurbishment earlier this year and, in the words of the T-Swift, she can't come to the phone because… it now answers to Mamsha Beach Saadiyat Island (which makes sense since it's on – you guessed it – Mamsha). An easy choice when you want a day of complete beach bliss, it boasts powdery white sand and Saadiyat blues – what more could you ask for? Not only will you get a 10/10 beach day but you also have some pretty good restaurants within walking distance. There's Pickl for a great burger, Italian favourite Antonia (the winner for best Casual Dining at the Time out Abu Dhabi Awards 2025), Niri (the winner for Best Japanese at the Time Out Abu Dhabi Restaurant Awards 2025) and TOTÓ (highly commended), Cristiano Ronaldo and Rafael Nadal's first restaurant in the capital. Marsana East opened recently and it offers premium amenities for Dhs50 on weekdays and Dhs100 on the weekends. Marsana West offers a cheaper alternative – Dhs25 on weekdays and Dhs50 on weekends. Yas Beach Styling itself as a 'beach playground' big on beats and brunches, Yas Beach is a must-visit spot – especially because of its prime location to watch the sunset. The club is home to restaurants and a bar, as well as being a spot to enjoy plenty of watersports. There's a fee to get in, but it's also free if you're staying at any of the hotels on Yas Island.
