In the glamorous world of Bollywood, everything is not exactly what it seems. While many stars come into the industry to shine and swoon away the audience, some could only dazzle briefly, and soon their shine faded. One such story is of an actress whose life has seen a seesaw of success, scandal, and survival. This actress has seen it all, from heartbreak, controversy to strength
With her influential family ties, this actress has a head start in the spotlight, setting the stage for a potentially stellar career. She did her acting debut in a film directed by her father. But the film that truly propelled her to stardom and made her a household name was 'Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahi'. The actress we are talking about is none other than Pooja Bhatt. Pooja's innocent face and strong screen presence quickly rose her to fame. Soon becoming a fan favourite, Pooja repeatedly did successful films like Sadak, Prem Deewane, Sir, and Border.
But behind the glamorous mask of Bollywood was Pooja's not so perfect life .
In a interview Pooja confessed that she fell into the trap of alcohol abuse during her early teens. She reveals she indulged in alcohol consumption occasionally but soon that turned into dependency which in turn had an affect on both her mental health and professional life. She even thought her survival was difficult at one point of time.
Besides her uncontrolled addiction, Pooja's romantic life wasn't any less stormy. Falling in love with actor Ranvir Shorey in her early life during the shoot of film 'Jism', their relationship soon turned from romantic to abusive in no time. Ranvir, used to stay under the influence often would also become violent.
Adding to the turmoil, her romantic life was equally tumultuous. In her youth, she was deeply in love with actor Ranvir Shorey, with whom she shared a screen romance in the film Jism. However, their relationship turned abusive, with Ranvir allegedly becoming violent under the influence. There were also reports of him barging into Pooja's house, leading to heated arguments. The relationship eventually ended. Pooja later married video jockey Manish Makhija in 2003, but their marriage didn't last, ending in 2014. The reasons behind their separation, however, remained undisclosed.
Becoming the center of many controversary, Pooja saw herself embroiled as a target during a magazine phootshot with her father, Mahesh Bhatt. A lip-lock pose between the two made headlines and drew immense backlash. While defending the shoot, Pooja stated that if people could question the love between a father and daughter, they could question anything—and that she chose not to care about public opinion.
Despite personal and professional setbacks, Pooja Bhatt has held her ground and shown resilience. The seasaw of her life consisting of addiction, failed relationships or controversies might have been too much for Pooja to take but she has always come out of it stronger than ever.

Kolkata: Crown, one of the last symbols of Esplanade area's 16 single screen theatre that was once the talk of the country, will soon be razed to the ground. The theatre, fondly referred to as the Cinema Hall of Janab Hashim Chandni Wale and known for playing films like 'Funtoosh', 'Qurbani', 'Aashique', 'Sadak', was shut down in 2022 and will be demolished by Oct. An old staffer of Crown told TOI that there will be clarity on what will come up on that space once the demolition work is over. Crown will join the list of single screens in Esplanade, once home to Majestic, Chaplin, Tiger, Lighthouse, Regal, Roxy, Paradise, Elite, Lotus, Jyoti, New Cinema and Opera Show House, which are now vibrant only in the memory of spectators. While New Empire and Society are still operational in their old format, Globe and Metro have been repurposed as cineplex. Roxy is undergoing repair and restoration. According to historical records, Crown Cinema was established in 1945 by Messrs Md Hashim and Md Yasin. "Crown wasn't built as a grand palace but it became a theatre of the people. One of the earliest films screened there was 'Bhai Jan' (1945) starring Noor Jehan and Karan Dewan, followed soon after by 'Humayun' by Mehboob Khan. Its modest yet impactful presence stood the test of time for nearly eight decades. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 25 of the Best Cities to Live In Undo I would prefer not to comment on the eventual sale or business transition, as these remain private," said Mansoor Danish, the great-grandson of Md Hashim. The duo owned multiple properties in Kolkata, including in Chandni Chowk, Ganesh Chandra Avenue, Temple Street, and Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Road. Their envelope printing press Ms M Hashim M Yasin was the first ever envelope manufacturer of India in 1932 and later they took part at the Mahamakam -All India Swadeshi Movement in 1933 Kumbakonam Festival for promoting Swadeshi enterprise. "The enterprise won a gold medal for promoting the theme 'Ask for Indian, Seek Indian, Buy Indian, Be Indian, Buy Khadi and Relieve the Starving Millions'," Danish said. One of the plausible reasons behind them entering the cinema business was a passion for cinema and community. According to Danish, the name 'Cinema Hall of Janab Hashim Chandni Wale' was a nod to the influence of Hashim, also the vice-president of the Md Sporting Club, in the Chandni Chowk area. "My great grandfather also served as a Justice of Peace and councillor for the Calcutta Municipal Corporation for the Bowbazar ward. He had a close relationship with BC Roy, the then chief minister of West Bengal. The name for the stretch Chandni Chowk was proposed by him," Danish added. In 1975, Crown was revamped into a fully AC theatre with a 35 mm screen and a seating capacity of 984. 'Rafoo Chakkar' was the first film to screen post-renovation. What made Crown unique was its policy that mandated that no film would be shown for more than a week irrespective of how big a hit it was. "Yet nearly every Dilip Kumar film was screened there. In the 1980s, 'Qurbani' drew huge crowds. In the 1990s, 'Bombay' became a sensation. And over the years, Crown welcomed an entire era of Shah Rukh and Salman Khan blockbusters. "In 2018, I took over the responsibility of managing Crown's final years. By 2022, with changing audience habits and industry realities, I oversaw the cinema's dignified closure — ensuring our staff was treated fairly and all liabilities cleared," Danish said.

Tasted like a sugar bomb waiting to spike your blood sugar levels. There was nothing special, let alone worth the long lines and exaggerated hype. This legendary actress married a 15-year-older man, was forced to quit acting, died a lonely death at 39, her name is...

In the glitzy and glamorous world of Bollywood, where it's often the dazzling and glitzy lives of celebrities that take center stage, the struggles and challenges are often overshadowed and don't come to the spotlight. One such similar tale is of a legendary actress from the golden era who captivated the audience with her painful and sorrowful roles, but her real life was no less than that. Behind her luminous eyes that lit up the screen was a life scarred by emotional pain, unfulfilled love, and a tragic end. The Tragedy Queen The actress that we are talking about is none other than Meena Kumari, also known as the Tragedy Queen. Born on 1 August 1933 as Mahjabeen Bano in Dadar, Mumbai. Meena ventured into the world of the limelight at a very young age when she was just five. Her debut film was Leather Face (1939). She worked tirelessly through her childhood, appearing in films like Adhuri Kahani, Pooja, and Bachchon Ka Khel. Post-independence, her career blossomed with acclaimed performances in Baiju Bawra, Parineeta, Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam, and Phool Aur Patthar. Her screen presence, often melancholic, made her the face of tragic romance in Hindi cinema. How was Meena Kumari's married life? Speaking of her personal life, it was no less than her on-screen tragic avatar, full of challenges and struggles. At 19, she married filmmaker Kamal Amrohi, 15 years her senior and already married with children. Meena's father was against this marriage and objected to her decision, but Meena, blinded by love, moved forward. Soon after the wedding, tensions rose. Amrohi reportedly restricted her freedom, insisting she quit acting. Conflicts deepened during the making of Pakeezah, a film they began together but halted due to marital issues. What Was the Reason for Her Untimely Demise? Though she continued to act in other films, her troubled marriage and emotional isolation pushed her into depression. The shooting of Pakeezah was shelved for years. It was finally released in February 1972 and turned out to be a timeless classic, but it was too late for Meena. Just a few weeks later, on 31 March 1972, she died at the age of 39 due to liver cirrhosis. As per reports, Meena had been battling alcoholism, which stemmed from emotional trauma and loneliness. Tragically, Pakeezah, the film she had waited her whole life to complete, also became her final performance. In it, Meena glows with unmatched vulnerability—perhaps because she was portraying her pain. Her untimely demise left her fans shocked, but even in death, she remained unforgettable. Even today, she lives on not just through her films but in the collective memory of a nation that still mourns its most heartbreaking star.
