Pearl Jam's Drummer Matt Cameron Leaves Band After 27-Year Run
Cameron and his band mates confirmed the news Monday in a pair of social media posts, but notably did not offer a reason for the musician's unexpected exit.
'After 27 fantastic years, I have taken my final steps down the drum riser for the mighty Pearl Jam,' Cameron said, before going on to thank lead singer Eddie Vedder, guitarists Stone Gossard and Mike McCready, and bassist Jeff Ament for 'giving me the opportunity of a lifetime, filled with friendships, artistry, challenges and laughter.'
'I am forever grateful to the crew, staff and fans the world over. It's been an incredible journey. More to follow,' he continued. 'I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.'
Pearl Jam shared similar sentiments in its statement, praising Cameron as 'a singular and true powerhouse of a musician and drummer.'
'He has propelled the last 27 years of Pearl Jam live shows and studio recordings,' the band wrote. 'It was a deeply important chapter for our group and we wish him well always. He will be deeply missed and is forever our friend in art and music. We love you Matt.'
Messages from Matt and the band:After 27 fantastic years, I have taken my final steps down the drum riser for the mighty Pearl Jam. By Monday afternoon, Cameron's announcement had drawn a plethora of supportive comments from fellow musicians and other public figures.
'You have inspired us all and will continue. All the best, Matt,' former Rage Against the Machine drummer Brad Wilk wrote on Instagram.
'Gossip Girl' actor and Pretty Reckless frontwoman Taylor Momsen said, 'You are and will continue to be amazing at all you do.'
A San Diego, California native, Cameron rose to prominence in the late 1980s as the drummer for the rock band Soundgarden which, like Pearl Jam, got its start in Seattle. He joined Pearl Jam in 1998, a year after Soundgarden's first breakup.
In 2010, he began playing with both Pearl Jam and Soundgarden after the latter band re-grouped, until the 2017 death of Soundgarden lead singer Chris Cornell.
Though Cameron was Pearl Jam's fifth drummer, his stint was considerably longer than each of his predecessors. Dave Krusen, the band's first drummer, was recruited by Gossard and former guitarist Jeff Ament in 1990, but left after a year.
He was then replaced by Matt Chamberlain, who played with the band for only a few weeks before Dave Abbruzzese took over. Jack Irons stepped in following Abbruzzese's 1994 exit, and was succeeded by Cameron four years later.
Cameron was first inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2017 as a member of Pearl Jam. The 62-year-old will be inducted a second time later this year, this time as a member of Soundgarden.

Beyoncé Gets Another Shot At Thus Far Elusive Emmy Win
Beyoncé may be the most-awarded artist in Grammy history, but thus far the Emmy has eluded the artist who's currently touring her eighth studio album, Cowboy Carter. She gets another crack at the television honor this year. Her Netflix NFL halftime show Beyoncé Bowl was nominated for outstanding variety special (live), placing it in contention with two Saturday Night Live specials: SNL50: The Anniversary Special and SNL 50: The Homecoming Concert. Beyoncé Bowl, which the artist co-directed with Alex Rudzinski, landed a total of three nominations. Also nominated in the outstanding variety special (live) category are Apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show, which starred Kendrick Lamar, and The Oscars. The Oscars, which was hosted in 2024 by Jimmy Kimmel, won the award last year, besting The Apple Music Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show Starring Usher, The 66th Grammy Awards, The Greatest Roast of All Time: Tom Brady and The 76th Annual Tony Awards. Beyonce's current Emmy nomination, announced July 15, brings her total to nine. She previously was nominated for her Homecoming documentary in the outstanding variety special (pre-recorded) in 2019, and Homecoming also picked up nominations for outstanding music direction and outstanding writing for a variety special. Other nominations include her Lemonade special (2016), which lost out to The Late Late Show Carpool Karaoke Prime Time Special in the outstanding variety, music or comedy special category and was also nominated that year for outstanding directing for a variety special; her On The Run Tour special (2015) for outstanding special class program; her Super Bowl halftime show (2013), in the outstanding short-format live-action entertainment program.

Jacob Misiorowski is an all-star just because he's popular? The horror.
The best new thing in baseball right now will have his moment Tuesday night at the All-Star Game, even as he conflicts with the worst thing about baseball. Rookie ace Jacob Misiorowski plays for the Milwaukee Brewers, though his body stretches long enough for him to moonlight as Giannis's teammate for that other Brew City franchise. Misiorowski's name might be as long as his frame, but it effortlessly shortens into one of those cool monikers that fit so well in headlines or on T-shirts. Though 'The Miz' has logged just five starts, he throws one of the hardest fastballs in the bigs.
