Tottenham released a lengthy statement explaining their decision to dismiss manager Ange Postecoglou:
FOLLOWING a review of performances and after significant reflection, the Club can announce that Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties.
Ange joined us from Celtic in the summer of 2023 and oversaw a period of change on the pitch, returning us to the attacking brand of football that has traditionally been associated with the Club, while writing a new chapter in our history by leading us to UEFA Europa League glory in Bilbao last month - an achievement that will live with us all forever.
We are extremely grateful to Ange for his commitment and contribution during his two years at the Club. Ange will always be remembered as only the third manager in our history to deliver a European trophy, alongside legendary figures Bill Nicholson and Keith Burkinshaw.
However, the Board has unanimously concluded that it is in the best interests of the Club for a change to take place. Following a positive start in the 2023/24 Premier League (PL) season, we recorded 78 points from the last 66 PL games. This culminated in our worst-ever PL finish last season. At times there were extenuating circumstances - injuries and then a decision to prioritise our European campaign. Whilst winning the Europa League this season ranks as one of the Club's greatest moments, we cannot base our decision on emotions aligned to this triumph.
It is crucial that we are able to compete on multiple fronts and believe a change of approach will give us the strongest chance for the coming season and beyond. This has been one of the toughest decisions we have had to make and is not a decision that we have taken lightly, nor one we have rushed to conclude. We have made what we believe is the right decision to give us the best chance of success going forward, not the easy decision.
We have a talented, young squad and Ange has given us a great platform to build upon. We should like to express our gratitude to him. We wish him well for the future - he will always be welcome back at our home.
News on the appointment of a new Head Coach will be announced in due course.

Man Utd ready for Gyokeres move Manchester United are in position to make a move Viktor Gyokeres and could leap ahead of Arsenal. Speculation over a move to Old Trafford has been rife since Ruben Amorim's arrival, though missing out on European football was expected to be a blow. It is understood that the Swede has not be peturbed however and is open to the move. Gyokeres is valued at around £65m, a figure shy of his releasee clause after the forward made an agreement with Sporting to reman last summer. With Arsenal occupied by Benjamin Sesko currently, it is reported United have financially readied themselves to do a deal. Sancho stance Jadon Sancho has no intention of wearing Manchester United colours again per ESPN, despite Chelsea footing up £5m to avoid signing him on a permanent deal. And that stance matches that of his head coach, Ruben Amorim, though the pair have yet to work together. Sancho returned five goals and 10 assists in 42 appearances across all competitions for Chelsea, helping them win the Conference League. The winger failed to set the world alight at Stamford Bridge however, leaving interest in his signature uncertain. There is said to be tentative interest from West Ham in a deal but Sancho's wages are likely to prove problematic. The former Borussia Dortmund has another year left on his contract with United. Defender speaks on Man Utd desire Former Paris Saint-Germain defender Thomas Meunier has admitted he would have loved to make a move to Manchester United. The Lille full-back, 33, has revealed he would quickly accept a transfer to the club if it was on the table. The Belgian international, who has one year remaining on his contract, also appears to accept that any chance of a deal is now gone. Meunir conceded a move to the 13-times Premier League champions could damage his affection for the club. Meunier told Gazet van Antwerpen: 'If they ever ask me, I'll cycle there [United]. But maybe it's better this way. "Suppose I play there and have a bad time. I wouldn't want to hate Manchester United, because I love that club so much. 'I went to watch them a few weeks ago, against Bilbao. In with the fans, singing fully. I am a real one. I go to watch them at least once every season. "But of all the home games I've seen in all those years, they've only won two. You have to have a self-cruelty side to be a United supporter, right?"

Tottenham decide transfer stance after missing out on two targets
Tottenham are prioritising the appointment of their new head coach but there is recognition that they must now act quickly following a slow start to their summer transfer business Tottenham's hesitance over the future of Ange Postecoglou has already seen them miss out on two midfielders and now they want to get a deal for the Aussie's successor in place to avoid missing out on further targets. Daniel Levy had spent the past two weeks deliberating whether to stick or twist in the aftermath of Spurs' Europa League triumph in Bilbao before finally pulling the trigger on Postecoglou on Friday. Thomas Frank is considered the clear frontrunner to replace the 59-year-old and while Brentford are yet to receive a formal approach for the Dane, positive talks have already taken place with Frank. Fulham's Marco Silva remains another name of interest but barring a significant U-turn, it looks as though Spurs will push ahead with a swoop for Frank, whose Brentford contract contains a significant buy-out clause. The Bees head coach is thought to have a good relationship with Spurs technical director and compatriot Johan Lange, who is expected to remain at the club and he'll also be tasked with overseeing transfer business alongside the likely returning Fabio Paratici. Spurs have already lost key ground in the market, England international Angel Gomes, a player Tottenham had been pursuing, has opted to join Marseille on a free transfer after also snubbing West Ham. Gomes' contract with Lille is set to expire at the end of the month but he now looks poised to remain in France after warming to the idea of working with Roberto De Zerbi. Meanwhile, Real Betis' American maestro Johnny Cardoso has agreed to join Atletico Madrid, providing a club-to-club deal can be struck. Last summer, Spurs negotiated a £21million first-option clause - that can only be triggered during a two-week window - on USMNT starlet Cardoso when selling Giovani Lo Celso to Betis. But it now looks as though Atletico will pounce and conclude a deal at a higher price for the highly-rated 23-year-old, who is not willing to wait around for Tottenham. Names of continued interest are the likes of Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze, who has a £68m buy-out clause (worth £60m + £8m in add-ons) that becomes active this summer, and Eagles skipper Marc Guehi while the Europa League winners were also tracking Bryan Mbeumo. Mbeumo has intimated that he wants to join Manchester United, who have had a £55m bid rejected and it remains to be seen if Tottenham-linked Frank could potentially swing the balance and convince his current player to join him in north London, if he lands the job. Ultimately, until Spurs know who their new manager is going to be - he will have a clear say on targets - it's difficult to envisage them splashing out on mega-money deals. Business will also likely be shaped by potential outgoings with Cristian Romero and captain Heung-min Son among those that could yet seek to pursue new challenges. Inevitably, they would need to be replaced with quality. Spurs remain keen on signing Mathys Tel on a permanent basis but they want to negotiate with Bayern Munich and won't be triggering their mooted £45m buy-option. Alexis Mac Allister was one of the stars of the season as Liverpool claimed the Premier League title, but remembers vividly the moment he was smashed by James Tarkowski during April's Merseyside derby Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has spoken about the horror tackle by James Tarkowski that could have left him with a broken leg. The Argentine international has revealed how he was shocked by the look on the Everton defender's face as he launched himself into a brutal challenge during the Reds' 1-0 Mersey derby victory over their rivals in April. Tarkowski escaped with just a yellow card and apologised to Mac Allister at the end of the game. But Mac Allister, speaking in an interview in Argentina, said: 'It could have broken my leg twice! That they didn't send him (Tarkowski) off was incredible. If I'd had my foot planted on the ground, it would have broken my leg completely. 'At the time, I realised it was too strong. But what shocked me most was his face when he went for the tackle. 'I wouldn't say he was going to try to break me, but I feel I was lucky given the way he went in.' Mac Allister was a key performer as Arne Slot's team lifted the Premier League title. But he has been left out of Argentina's squad for World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Colombia because of injury. Mac Allister also named Manchester City 's Jack Grealish as the biggest provocateur in the Premier League this week, admitting players "feel like kicking him". He also suggested the 29-year-old often made the most of being fouled, having first faced off against him when he was a Brighton player and Grealish turned out for Villa. "Grealish - you feel like kicking him," the Argentine said. "But even when you do, he gets right back up. And somehow, that makes you feel like you're winning!"
