Hip-hop performers Jadakiss, Too $hort to headline Preakness Festival 150

CBS News03-04-2025

Famed hip-hop performers Jadakiss and Too $hort will be headlining the Preakness Festival 150, days before the 150th thoroughbred racing of The Preakness Stakes in Baltimore.
Preakness 150, marking the 150th year of the second leg of the Triple Crown, will have a week-long festival and celebration of the iconic horse race.
Singer and actress Deborah Cox and rapper D-Nice, along with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, are also included in the lineup for Wednesday, May 14, at Pier Six Pavilion in downtown Baltimore.
Too Short, who had collaborations with Tupac and the Notorious B.I.G., is a California-born rapper. A couple of his biggest singles were "Blow the Whistle" and "The Ghetto."
Jadakiss, a New York rapper and had signed with Ruff Ryders, is known for songs like "We Gonna Make It," Still Feel Me," "Kiss of Death," and "Money, Power and Respect."
The new festival will feature cultural events, arts activities, and other programming at prominent locations across the state, made possible through public and private stakeholder partnerships.
Here's a list of events happening during t
he Preakness Festival from May 8 through May 17
.
The 150th running of the
Preakness Stakes,
the second leg of the Triple Crown, will be on Saturday, May 17 at Baltimore's Pimlico Race Course.
Seize the Gray edged out Kentucky Derby winner
Mystik Dan and six other horses to win last year's race.
The
Preakness 150 will be the final horse race
at Pimlico Race Course before a major renovation project gets underway in 2026.
The Maryland Stadium Authority was authorized to finance up to $400 million in state bonds for the rebuild, design, and construction of Pimlico.
The planned development
includes a new clubhouse, stables for approximately 700 horses, event space, and a hotel to be constructed by a private partner. The plan also calls for structured parking and workforce housing in the Park Heights neighborhood, according to the Maryland Thoroughbred Racetrack Operating Authority.
"It was held in Northwest Baltimore, but it was very clear it wasn't for Northwest Baltimore," said Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott, who grew up in Park Heights. "Bringing the surrounding communities into the fold, we've begun to change that narrative."
A separate training facility would be developed with a capacity for about 650 horses, maintaining the current combined stabling capacity of 1,400 horses, which is currently split between Laurel Park and Pimlico.
The redevelopment is expected to create significant economic benefits for Baltimore and the community hosting the training center. Officials project 140 to 160 racing days annually at Pimlico, and the facility will include a 1,000-seat event space and a new hotel.
The Preakness Stakes will relocate to Laurel Park in 2026 while the new facility is built.

A Day in the Life of Chris 'The Bear' Fallica at the Belmont Stakes

The Belmont Stakes has officially wrapped up. We all know Sovereignty took first place in the race, but what did the day look like for FOX Sports betting expert Chris 'The Bear' Fallica? Come and see for yourself! It was 9:03 a.m. in New York, meaning it was go-time. First things first, The Bear started his everyday routine by handicapping, getting scratches out and going through the big, multi-race wagers, so it was highlighted for him to keep an eye on throughout the day. Chris then wagered on a Pick 5, as it's the best way to "get the juices flowing" in the early morning. Well, whaddyaknow, a handful of races got canceled and postponed. That just meant he had to improvise and adjust; his Pick 5 would have to wait another day. It was time to head to the Saratoga Race Course. By 1:30 p.m., The Bear had arrived and was ready to get beautified. Three minutes later, his makeup was complete. Fallica was then ready to meet with the Bear Bets producers to discuss the wagers he would make on the show. But before he went on air, he needed to make a quick stop. What good handicapper doesn't have a fedora? That definitely couldn't be Chris. The fun began at 3:05 p.m. as he entered the Saratoga course and, with the help of fans, The Bear found himself the perfect hat. Selfie time! The Bear had many fans he had to attend to, and, of course, had to get in a handful of selfies as he made his way throughout the course. Drinking from the Big Red Spring is a must at the Saratoga Race Course, so obviously Fallica needed to try it. Around 3:30 p.m., it was officially time for the Bear Bets livestream, where fellow FOX Sports betting analysts Sammy P and Geoff Schwartz joined The Bear to film. Following the livestream at 4:07 p.m., Chris hopped in to join FOX Sports' Charissa Thompson and Jonathon Kinchen, helping break down how to bet on the horses. Chris put his money on Journalism. It was then time to make the final pick just before 7 p.m. alongside the analysts. Terry Bradshaw entered the broadcast a few minutes later to watch the race. The horses took off, and in 2 minutes, 0.69 seconds, Sovereignty finished in first place, ahead of Preakness Stakes winner Journalism by three lengths. "They love me even though Sovereignty won," Fallica said. "I have to be a winner. Any time you come out of the day with a hat, it's a successful day, right? Another year until we can do it all over again. Before we even know it, Big Noon college football will be back". Want great stories delivered right to your inbox? Bobby Flay's horse Crudo undercooked at Belmont Stakes

Bobby Flay's horse Crudo undercooked at Belmont Stakes Celebrity chef Bobby Flay's horse Crudo was a long shot to win Saturday's 2025 Belmont Stakes, but Crudo finishing in last place left the Flay and his horse pretty, well, burnt by the whole ordeal. Indeed, Sovereignty galloped away with the final leg of the Triple Crown in New York, and Flay's Crudo finished in last place among the horses in the field. It's not a huge shock considering Crudo wasn't one of the favorites heading into Saturday's prestigious race, but even getting to the Belmont Stakes is pretty solid work for a horse who once couldn't be sold. Flay spoke about the road Crudo, a horse he co-owns with Jimmy Ventura, took to get to Saturday's big stage. "Jimmy and I were going to buy him as a pinhook proposition — we bought him as a weanling and we were going to sell him as a yearling. We brought him to the Saratoga [Fasig-Tipton] sale, and he didn't sell, so we kept him,' Flay told the New York Post. 'I don't usually race colts. I usually race fillies only. But I have him, so he's racing, and he's turned out to have talent." Crudo earned his name for his raw talent, so perhaps the racing horse will fare better at future events. Some horses take time to find their potential on the tracks, of course, so Crudo's time may well come one day. For now, the horse's Belmont performance came out a bit undercooked, leaving Flay with a meal he'd probably like to send back to the kitchen. Pump that sweet horse full of carrots and sugar cubes, let him run around the pasture for a while and shake this race off and try again next time. If anybody knows about a bad night at the stove, it's probably Flay.
