Annual strategic drill of National Defence College commences in Muscat
Muscat: The activities of the annual strategic drill 'Decision Making-12', kicked off on Sunday at the National Defence College (NDC) at the Academy for Strategic and Defence Studies.
The drill, which lasts till 8 July, is conducted by the participants in the 12th session from the various military, security and civil entities and attended by a number of experts and advisors from the military, security departments, ministries and government units and the staff of the National Defence College.
The 'Decision Making 12' drill of the NDC demonstrate the skills and knowledge acquired by the participants in the session and translates the knowledge and theoretical and academic programmes in the field of strategic studies including the modern traning techniques at the national, regional and international levels..
Rear Admiral Ali bin Abdullah Al Shidi, Commandant of the National Defence College and director of the drill reaffirmed the significance of drill and the optimal dealing with the strategic issues and events of the drill along with the implementation of the procedures and strategies the participants in the drill have acquainted with during the 12 session of the National Defence College.
He said that the drill translates the academic knowledge and skills the participant in the session have acquired as part of the general syllabus of the 12 national defence course / session.
The 12th drill 'Decision Making' aimed to enrich the skills and thoughts of the participants in the field of decision making at the strategic level and to analyse the key strategic issues among other goals.

"I am not offering Iran anything": Trump denies nuclear deal talks
Washington: US President Donald Trump has denied engaging in any talks with Iran or offering them concessions. In a late-night post on Truth Social, Trump stated, "I am not offering Iran ANYTHING, unlike Obama, who paid them $Billions under the stupid 'road to a nuclear weapon JCPOA (which would now be expired!), nor am I even talking to them since we totally OBLITERATED their Nuclear Facilities." On Friday, Trump also refuted media reports suggesting that his administration had explored the possibility of allowing Iran access to up to $30 billion for a civilian nuclear energy programme. In response to the ongoing tensions, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said on Saturday that President Donald Trump should put aside the "disrespectful tone" towards Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei if the US wants to have a deal with Iran. Underscoring that Iran does not take it kindly to threats and insults, Aragchi said that Iran would not hesitate to unveil its real capabilities. "The complexity and tenacity of Iranians are famously known in our magnificent carpets, woven through countless hours of hard work and patience. But as a people, our basic premise is very simple and straightforward: we know our worth, value our independence, and never allow anyone else to decide our destiny," Iranian Foreign Minister wrote on X. He added, "If President Trump is genuine about wanting a deal, he should put aside the disrespectful and unacceptable tone towards Iran's Supreme Leader, Grand Ayatollah Khamenei, and stop hurting his millions of heartfelt followers." "The Great and Powerful Iranian People, who showed the world that the Israeli regime had NO CHOICE but to RUN to "Daddy" to avoid being flattened by our Missiles, do not take kindly to Threats and Insults. If Illusions lead to worse mistakes, Iran will not hesitate to unveil its Real Capabilities, which will certainly END any Delusion about the Power of Iran", the post further mentioned. He concluded his remarks by saying, "Good will begets good will, and respect begets respect." The remarks by the Iranian Foreign Minister come amid the backdrop of the US hinting towards talks with Iran. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on Thursday (US local time) had said the Trump administration is focused on diplomacy and peace, adding that the US continues to remain in close communication with the Iranians. Addressing a press briefing, Leavitt said, "I spoke to our special envoy Witkoff at length this morning and I can assure all of you we continue to be in close communication with the Iranians and through our intermediaries as well, namely the Qataris, who have been an incredible ally and partner throughout this entire effort. As I said, this administration is always focused on diplomacy and peace, and we want to ensure we can get to a place where Iran agrees to a non-enrichment civil nuclear program." Her remarks follow after the US had conducted precision strikes on three Iranian nuclear sites under Operation 'Midnight Hammer'.

Palestinians chant "I love you Trump" as US-backed aid enters region
Washington, DC: White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on Sunday shared a video of Palestinians expressing gratitude to US President Donald Trump as Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) relief kits were distributed. The people in the video were seen chanting slogans like "I love you Trump" and "I love you Donald." She also shared a post by Trump saying, "MAKE THE DEAL IN GAZA. GET THE HOSTAGES BACK!!!" Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said "many opportunities have opened up" following Israel's military operations in Iran, including the possibility of bringing home the remaining hostages held in Gaza. Speaking at a Shin Bet security agency facility in southern Israel on Sunday, Netanyahu said, "As you probably know, many opportunities have opened up now following this victory. Firstly, to rescue the hostages. Of course, we will also need to solve the Gaza issue, defeat Hamas, but I believe we will accomplish both missions," as per CNN. Netanyahu's comments mark one of the first times he has clearly prioritised the return of the hostages over the defeat of Hamas. For months, Netanyahu has prioritised the defeat of Hamas in Gaza and spokeabout a "total victory." At the beginning of May, he called defeating Hamas the "supreme objective," not freeing the hostages, CNN reported. His comments Sunday mark a potentially significant change in how he has talked about Israel's goals in the war. He has repeatedly faced criticism from the families of hostages, opposition politicians and large segments of the Israeli public for not clearly placing the return of the hostages as Israel's primary goal. Reacting to his comments Sunday, the Hostages Families Forum Headquarters called for a single comprehensive deal to bring back all 50 hostages and end the fighting in Gaza, as per CNN. "What is needed is release, not rescue. This difference of one word could mean the difference between salvation and loss for the hostages," the forum said in a statement.

Shura Council committee discusses Unified Industrial Regulation Law of GCC
Muscat: As part of its discussion on the draft Unified Industrial Regulation Law for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) States, the Economic and Financial Committee of the Shura Council hosted on Monday, several specialists from the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion. The draft law was referred by the government to the Council for study. The ministry's representatives affirmed that the draft law aims to regulate the industrial sector, promote industrial development, encourage industrial investment, and increase the sector's contribution to national income. It also seeks to strengthen industrial integration and the interconnection of economic activities among the GCC states. The law is expected to support the alignment of economic policies related to industrialisation, meet the requirements of economic development plans and programmes, foster innovation, and adopt and localise advanced technologies to enhance the competitiveness of the industrial sector. Members of the committee emphasised the importance of ensuring that the provisions of the draft law take into account the specific characteristics of the local industrial sector and align with existing laws and regulations governing industry in Oman. The discussion took place during the Committee's fifteenth meeting of the second annual session (2024–2025) of the tenth term of the Council, chaired by Ahmed bin Saeed Al Sharqi, Chair of the Committee, and attended by its members. During the meeting, the committee also reviewed and approved the final report on the expressed desire regarding the assessment of the current state of local industries in the Sultanate of Oman. The report aims to analyse the industrial landscape in terms of challenges, opportunities, and readiness to contribute to the goals of the industrial strategy and Oman Vision 2040. The report concluded with a number of findings and recommendations aimed at supporting the growth of the industrial sector, most notably the need to align policies with the national industrial strategy and provide a package of incentives and facilitations. Additionally, the committee approved the final report on the expressed desire concerning the evaluation of the competitiveness and attractiveness of Oman's business environment. This discussion reflects the committee's ongoing efforts to support economic development and enhance the business climate in line with the aspirations of Oman Vision 2040, and to contribute to attracting investments and diversifying sources of national income. The report outlined key challenges facing the business sector and presented recommendations to enhance its competitiveness and appeal to foreign investors. It is worth noting that, as part of its study of the expressed desires, the committee held several meetings and hosted experts from relevant economic and industrial authorities to gather their opinions and observations. This study was conducted in accordance with Article (59) of the Law of the Council of Oman, which states: "The Shura Council may, on its own initiative, express desires to the government regarding public services and facilities, their development and performance improvement, or concerning challenges facing the economic sector and ways to enhance development, whenever the Council deems such action to be in the public interest." During the meeting, the committee also adopted its opinion on the annual report submitted by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, in accordance with Article (55) of the Law of the Council of Oman, which states: "Service ministers shall provide the Shura Council with an annual report on the progress of projects implemented by their respective ministries. The Council may summon any minister to present a statement on matters within the jurisdiction of their ministry and to discuss it with them." The committee also reviewed and discussed the draft amendment to certain provisions of the GCC Common Customs Law, which was referred by the government to the Council for consideration.
