NDC Commandant receives Algerian delegation
MUSCAT: Rear Admiral Ali bin Abdullah al Shidi, Commandant of the National Defence College (NDC), received a delegation from the War High College of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, at Bait Al Falaj, on Sunday. During the meeting, both sides exchanged discussions on several matters of mutual interest, particularly in academic fields. The meeting was attended by several senior officers from the National Defence College at the Academy for Strategic and Defence Studies. The Algerian delegation also visited the Joint Command and Staff College at the Academy for Strategic and Defence Studies. Upon arrival at the College's headquarters in Bait Al Falaj, the delegation was received by the Acting Commandant of the Joint Command and Staff College. During the visit, the delegation viewed a visual presentation about the college, its curriculum and various training and educational programmes. The delegation also toured the college's facilities, including its departments, systems and equipment. - ONA

Programme on enhancing local content concludes
MUSCAT: The National Defence College (NDC) completed the 9th edition of the parallel programme on mechanisms to consolidate local content titled 'Mechanisms for Enhancing Local Content'. The closing ceremony took place at the Academy for Strategic and Defence Studies under the auspices of Rear Admiral Ali bin Abdullah al Shidi, Commandant of the National Defence College (NDC). The programme was attended by senior officers of the Sultan's Armed Forces (SAF) and other military and security services and CEOs from private sector establishments. The closing session included lectures and discussion panels on various aspects of local content management, in addition to recommendations and visions related to the programme's themes. At the conclusion of the ceremony, Al Shidi handed over certificates of felicitation to outstanding participants who contributed to the programme's objectives. The parallel programme sought to develop the leadership skills and capabilities of leaders in government departments, senior SAF officers and other military and security services. The programme covered the following: The importance of local content to the national economy; Legislative framework for promoting local content in the Sultanate of Oman; Analysis of regulatory and procedural obstacles that impede the implementation of local content localisation policies; The best legal practices in promoting local content; Benefiting from international experiences in devising an effective local content policy; The role of major companies in promoting local content; The role of strategic partnerships in promoting local content; Opportunities for localising local content in military and security sectors; Localising technology to promote local content; Challenges posed to the localisation of technology related to the promotion of local content; and GCC states' experience in using technology to promote local content. The closing ceremony of the 9th edition of the parallel programme was attended by senior officers of the SAF and other military and security services and the NCD staff. - ONA

Hamdan bin Mohammed chairs Defence Council meeting
H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence of the UAE, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, chaired a meeting of the Defence Council, where he stressed the importance of strengthening efforts, fostering teamwork, and deepening collaboration to release the leadership's vision for advancing the UAE's defence capabilities. He was briefed on the College's academic programmes offered to both military and civilian personnel, and its curriculum designed to develop future national leaders. During the visit, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan also met with officers enrolled in the 12th National Defence Course (2024–2025), discussing their academic experience and reaffirming the leadership's support for excellence in all fields of national service. H.H. Sheikh Hamdan affirmed that the National Defence College is a leading academic and strategic institution, crucial to preparing national leaders with the insight and skills to make informed decisions, protect national achievements, and navigate future challenges. He also praised its role in advancing strategic thinking and fostering cooperation between the military and civilian establishments. H.H. Sheikh Hamdan was accompanied by Mohamed bin Mubarak bin Fadhel Al Mazrouei, Minister of State for Defence Affairs, Lieutenant General Engineer Issa Saif bin Ablan Al Mazrouei, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces; and Lieutenant General Ibrahim Nasser Al Alawi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Defence; along with senior officers and officials from the Ministry.
