But his recovery shot out of the thick cut came scarily close to ending in a tragic disaster.
Video footage showed the American lining up the shot in an awkward stance with the ball well above his feet.
And as he makes the connection, the ball hurtled at rapid speed straight towards the large group of golf fans stood behind a rope to his right - rather than heading for the green as intended.
The fans in direct line of the ball were forced to take emergency cover.

The terrifying scenes were also filmed from the fans' view as the ball flew towards the camera.
Thankfully, the fans somehow managed to get out of harm's way in time and avoided any serious injuries as Spieth recovered to make par.
But fans took to social media to express their shock and concern about the worrying incident - as fears grow for spectator safety.
One said: "Spieth almost killing a fan on the first hole."
Another wrote: "This view of Jordan Spieth almost ending a fan's life is crazy.
"It's wild that more serious injuries or even deaths don't happen on tour. Fans have zero fear, even when it's a tough shot."
A third added: "Spieth nearly decapitates a fan."
And a final user commented: "People are way too trusting when trying to get a closer look at pros.
"When Jordan was preparing for the shot I was thinking, those people could be in path of the ball.
"The PGA and tournaments needs to reconsider how position fans on shots like that."

Rangers appoint new boss Russell Martin on three-year contract

Rangers have confirmed the appointment of Russell Martin as the club's new head coach. The 39-year-old former MK Dons, Swansea and Southampton boss has signed a three-year contract. He will be joined at Ibrox by assistant head coach Matt Gill and performance coach Rhys Owen. ✍️ Our new Head Coach, Russell Martin. — Rangers Football Club (@RangersFC) June 5, 2025 Martin guided Southampton to promotion to the Premier League last year but was sacked in December following one win from their first 16 games. Rangers finished last season under the caretaker management of former captain Barry Ferguson, having dismissed Philippe Clement in February. Ex-Scotland defender Martin, who had a short loan spell as a player at Rangers in 2018, is tasked with wrestling power back from the other side of Glasgow after Celtic's stranglehold on Scottish football continued with a 13th William Hill Premiership title in 14 seasons. 'From my time here, I had a taste of how special this club is, the expectation, the passion and the history,' he told the club's website. 'Now, as I return, I'm determined to bring success back, for the supporters, the players, and everyone inside this club. 'There's a lot to be done, but the goal is clear: win matches, win trophies and give Rangers fans a team that they can be proud of.' ✍️ We are delighted to confirm the appointment of Russell Martin as Head Coach of our men's first team on a three-year deal. Full Details ⬇️ — Rangers Football Club (@RangersFC) June 5, 2025 Martin's arrival is the latest in a series of major changes at the club. An American consortium led by Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises secured a majority shareholding on Friday, while new sporting director Kevin Thelwell officially began work on Monday. Rangers chief executive Patrick Stewart, who led the recruitment process alongside Thelwell, said: 'Our criteria for our next coach were clear: we wanted a coach who will excel in terms of how we want to play, improve our culture, develop our squad, and ultimately win matches. Russell was the standout candidate.'

Fuming Rory McIlroy aims blast at golf media while explaining his press boycott after USPGA Championship

RORY McILROY was 'p*** ed off' that news of his driver failing technical standards was leaked at last month's USPGA Championship. Scottie Scheffler's club also failed a similar test. But ahead of teeing off today in the Canadian Open, McIlroy, 36 said: 'I was a little bit p***ed off because I knew Scottie's driver had failed but my name was the one that was leaked. 'It was supposed to stay confidential. Two members of the media were the ones that leaked it." Two days before the tournament was due to start, the Holywood golfer had the club pulled from his bag after official testing showed it had crossed the so-called 'trampoline effect' threshold — when the face of the club becomes more springy. Read More On Irish Sport Quail Hollow champ Scheffler's driver also failed the same test but that information never became public until the world No 1 volunteered it at his winner's press conference. Explaining why he didn't complain at the time, McIlroy said: 'I didn't want to get up there and say something that I regretted. 'With Scottie's stuff, that's not my information to share. That process is supposed to be kept confidential and it wasn't for whatever reason. That's why I was pretty annoyed at that.' McIlroy, a two-time Canadian Open winner, added: 'The PGA was a bit of a weird week. Most read in Golf "I didn't play well the first day, so I wanted to go practice, so that was fine. 'Second day, we finished late and I wanted to go back and see my daughter Poppy before she went to bed. Amanda Balionis accused by Scottie Scheffler of 'trying to get him emotional' during live TV interview "The driver news broke - I didn't really want to speak on that. Saturday, I was meant to tee off at 8:20 in the morning. "I didn't tee off until almost two o'clock in the afternoon - another late finish. I was just tired and wanted to go home. 'And on Sunday, I just wanted to get on the plane and go back to Florida.' NOT MANADATORY In a warning to the assembled media, the five-time major winner said he could boycott the tournament's press pack if he wanted to as PGA Tour rules do not require players to speak with them. He added: 'From a responsibility standpoint - I understand - if we all wanted to, we could bypass you guys and just go on social media to talk about our round and do it our own way. 'We understand that's not ideal for you guys, because there's a bigger dynamic at play here. I talk to you guys, and I talk to the media a lot. 'I think there should be an understanding that this is a two-way street. "As much as we need to speak to you guys, we also understand the benefit of you being here — giving us the platform and everything else. I understand that. 'But again, I've been beating this drum for a long time — if they want to make it mandatory, that's fine. But in our rules, it says that it's not [obligatory to speak to the media]. 'Until the day it's written into the rules, you're going to have guys that skip from time to time - and that's well within our rights.'
