UAE-India flights not disrupted despite heavy rains
Flights between the UAE and India are operating on schedule despite heavy rains hitting parts of India over the past few days, affecting some international and domestic flights to and from Delhi airport.
The spokespersons of UAE-based airlines Emirates, Etihad and flydubai all said the current inclement has no direct impact on their flights.
On Wednesday evening, Indian local media reported 'many domestic and international flights to Delhi airport from various airports have been halted or diverted due to weather conditions in Delhi.'
A wave of pre-monsoon rains lashed across the country, and affected major cities like New Delhi, Pune, Goa, and Bengaluru.
The India Meteorological Department, meanwhile, has issued an orange alert for parts of Bangalore, which is expected to continue until May 27. There were also reports of three deaths due to rain-related incidents in the city as well as three fatalities in Tamil Nadu, according to Indian media outlets.

Emirates suspends some UAE flights In a statement, Emirates said: 'Due to the regional situation, Emirates has temporarily suspended all flights to: Jordan (Amman) and Lebanon (Beirut), until and including Sunday, June 22 Iran (Tehran) and Iraq (Baghdad and Basra), until and including Monday, June 30 'Customers connecting through Dubai with final destinations in Iraq, Iran, Jordan, Lebanon; and customers with onwards flydubai connections to suspended destinations will not be accepted for travel at their point of origin until further notice'. The airline added that customers impacted by flight cancellations should contact their travel agency for rebooking. Customers departing or arriving at Dubai International Airport were advised to check their flight status on for the latest information. Emirates said: 'We apologise for any inconvenience caused to our customers. We continue to closely monitor developments. The safety of our passengers, employees and operations will always be our top priority'. Etihad suspends some UAE flights Etihad said it 'continues to experience disruption to several services due to airspace closures and the ongoing regional situation'. In a statement, Etihad said: 'Flights between Abu Dhabi (AUH) and Tel Aviv, Israel (TLV) remain cancelled on June 15 and June 16. 'Flights between Abu Dhabi (AUH) and Amman, Jordan (AMM) EY 591/592, and between Abu Dhabi (AUH) and Beirut, Lebanon (BEY) EY 581/582, will resume on June 15 with a revised flight schedule for guests with existing bookings only at this stage. 'Additionally, Etihad continues to re-route several flights in response to restricted airspace in parts of the Middle East. Etihad is closely monitoring airspace and security updates in coordination with the relevant authorities'. Etihad further added that guests transiting through Abu Dhabi to connect to cancelled flights will not be accepted for travel from their point of origin. India: 6 killed, 25 swept away after bridge collapse over Indrayani river in Pune, say reports
At least six people were killed and 25 others swept away on Sunday after a bridge collapsed over the Indrayani river in the western Indian city of Pune, Reuters reported, citing Indian media. Initial reports said 10 to 15 people were feared to be trapped, while 5 to 6 people were rescued, the Pimpri Chinchwad Police said. Rescue operations are underway, with India's National Disaster Response Force teams on the spot. Around 125 tourists were standing on the same spot on the bridge and it suddenly collapsed. Nearly 20-25 people were drifted away by the river. Some of them were taken out by local workers, while 4-5 are still stuck under the bridge," Former Vice President of Cantonment Board Dehu Road, Raghuvir Shelar said. However, other officials warned that it would not be appropriate to speak without getting complete information. "Some people are trapped. It is possible that some people have been swept away. We have not yet received any confirmation of casualties in this regard. Therefore, it would not be appropriate to talk about this now. I will give information about this only after getting complete information. Right now, the administration is trying its best to provide relief to the people," Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis said.

After 24-hour delay, UAE expat flies to brother's wedding as conflict disrupts flights
A Dubai resident was delayed by over 24 hours when he tried to fly back to his hometown of Beirut to attend his brother's wedding, as flight cancellations continued on for a second day in the region. Anthony Sebaaly, who was supposed to fly out on Friday afternoon, spent 12 hours at Dubai Airport but eventually managed to get home on Saturday evening, just in time for his brother's wedding reception party. 'It was super challenging as all the flights were cancelled,' he told Khaleej Times from Beirut. 'I had been planning for the wedding for months but when the airspace was closed, I didn't know what to do. However, I got incredibly lucky and my flight got rescheduled for Saturday evening. I made it just in time for the wedding party.' In the early hours of Friday, I srael launched an offensive against Iran, in a dramatic escalation of the decades-long tense relationship between the two countries. This resulted in air closures that is believed to have impacted approximately 3,000 flights per day through cancelled flights or re-routes. UAE airlines including Emirates, Etihad and flydubai have extended their flight cancellations and advised travellers to check the status of their flights. Several countries like Jordan and Lebanon have opened their airspace but intermittent closures have been in place due to the ongoing airstrikes that both Iran and Israel are trading. 12-hour wait Anthony was initially supposed to fly on a different airline, but the flight got cancelled. 'I rebooked on a second airline because I was desperate to get home for my brother's wedding,' he said. 'However, when I arrived at the airport, I came to know that the plane I was supposed to board was not allowed to take off because of airspace closures.' The Lebanese surgical robotics engineer waited for 12 hours at the airport hoping for some good news, but it didn't come. Eventually, on Saturday morning, he returned home hoping and praying for the best. 'A little while after I reached home, I got the call that the airspace had opened and the flight had been rescheduled for Saturday afternoon,' he said. 'I immediately rushed back. I was worried until the plane landed in Beirut because I knew how fluid the situation was. But thank God, I was incredibly lucky. Just a few hours after I landed, the airspace closed again. I was able to rush to my brother's reception party and dance and celebrate with them. It was a lifetime memory that I wouldn't have missed for the world.' He added the airline and Dubai Airport went the extra mile to handle the situation in the best possible way. "They were really amazing in making sure that we were comfortable during the long wait," he said. Anthony is scheduled to return on June 29 and is hoping that things settle down by then. 'I need to rejoin work on Monday, June 30, and I am praying that I make it back to Dubai on time for it,' he said. 'We are all praying that the conflict doesn't escalate and everything settles down.'
