Two injured, shops damaged in clash between residents of two villages in Odisha
According to police, residents of Ostapur and Kotapalla villages, under the jurisdiction of Baghamari police station, engaged in a heated debate on Wednesday over the installation of a village signboard.
After holding discussions with residents of both villages, the local administration decided to install two separate signboards for each village along the roadside, police said.
However, tensions escalated into violence on Thursday after a heated exchange of words between some villagers from both sides.
The situation led to stone-pelting incidents, resulting in damage to a few roadside shops and injuries to two persons, police said.
'The clash erupted over a dispute on putting up signboards. A few shops were vandalised in the clash. However, the situation is now under control. We have deployed police personnel in the area to maintain law and order," Khurda sub-collector Kishore Panda said.
'To ensure that the situation does not aggravate further, we have also imposed Section 163 of BNSS from Hanuman Vatika to Barikpokhari until further orders. All shops will remain closed," Panda told reporters.
He also informed that the local school will also remain closed for two days as it is located close to the area where the violence took place. PTI BBM BBM MNB

Lucknow man arrested for sexually abusing stray dog
Agency: PTI Lucknow, Aug 9 (PTI) A 24-year-old man in Lucknow was on Saturday arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a stray dog, police said. The incident occurred on Thursday night in the Patrakarpuram area under Gomti Nagar police station limits. A video of the act began circulating on social media the following day. According to an officer from Gomti Nagar police station, the case came to light after representatives of a local NGO lodged a complaint upon seeing the video. 'The accused was identified as Sonu Vishwakarma, a resident of the Vinay Khand area, and arrested on Saturday following an investigation," the official told PTI. The police said that prima facie, the accused appeared to be mentally unstable. Gang of thieves busted in Latur, six arrested
Last Updated: Latur, Aug 9 (PTI) Police in Maharashtra's Latur district on Saturday claimed to have solved nine cases of theft and burglary with the arrest of six persons and seizure of stolen goods and vehicles worth Rs 24.8 lakh. The arrests were made on the intervening night of August 2 and 3, an official said. The accused were identified as Rihan Mustafa Shaikh (20), Anwar Jalalkha Pathan (24), Hafeez Mumtajuddin Shaikh (36), Sadiq Mohammad Yasin Mohammad (44) and Farukh Nabi Shaikh (27). A tempo, sharp-edged weapons, sticks, iron pipes, fake number plates, grinder machine, iron chains and tools for burglary were seized from their possession. Three other members of the gang managed to escape under the cover of darkness, the official said. Interrogation revealed that the gang had committed multiple burglaries in Ausa, Killari, Bhada, Renapur, Chakur, Ahmedpur and even in neighbouring states, he said. A parallel probe led to the arrest of another gang member, Sameer Shamsuddin Shaikh (30), from Beed. He was found in possession of banned gutkha worth Rs 5.72 lakh and an Innova car valued at Rs 8 lakh. Further searches led to the recovery of stolen goods including cigarettes, rice, soap, branded tobacco, cooking oil, cashews, almonds and other grocery items worth Rs 4 lakh, looted by the gang after breaking into shops at night. Cyber cafe owner arrested in UPs Bareilly for making fake Aadhaar, ID cards
Bareilly, Aug 9 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Police has busted a forgery racket operating under the guise of a cyber cafe and arrested its owner for producing fake government identity documents, officials said on Saturday. According to Izzatnagar police station in-charge Narendra Singh, a team raided a cyber cafe in Khajuria Ghat village on Saturday after receiving a tip-off. The shop's shutter was half-closed, and inside, the suspect was using a computer and printer to create forged Aadhaar cards, Ayushman health cards and other identification papers. The arrested man, identified as 24-year-old Shubham, was booked under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), he said. Singh said Shubham's accomplice managed to escape during the raid by taking advantage of the crowd. The raid led to the seizure of computer hardware, a lamination machine, three rubber stamps, eight Ayushman cards, 26 Aadhaar cards, 25 Airtel SIM cards, seven Vodafone SIM cards, three fingerprint scanners, several other forged documents, and Rs 19,820 in cash, the official said.
