This year's Game Developers Choice Awards honored indie developer Lucas Pope known for cult hit puzzle games Papers, Please and Return of the Obra Dinn, with the Pioneer Award.
Another honoree also included Remedy Entertainment's creative director Sam Lake, fresh off of numerous industry wins for the critically praised Alan Wake II, with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Reflecting on his three decades in the industry, he offered advice to his fellow gaming peers and developers in training.
'It's important to find your team, your unique voice to stand out and go where your passion takes you. Trust your vision. Be patient with this, but stay true to it and keep pushing forward, but also always be a team player. Always listen to the good ideas from the talented people around you and find ways to incorporate those ideas in a way that compliments your ideas. Hide in as much art as you can get away with. This is your vital secret mission,' the Finnish director continued. 'Art is what makes you excited, what gives you joy and what makes you proud. Roll with the punches when you face an obstacle and you have to change your ideas, take it to mean you've been now given an opportunity to come up with something even cooler and better. I feel that we are easily laced with our initial ideas. Obstacles force us to be creative and something creative can come out of that and often does.'

Lisa Kudrow's Impersonation Of A Far-Right MAGA Spokesperson Is Going Viral Because People Say It's Like "Literally Every Republican"
A resurfaced clip of Lisa Kudrow doing a satirical impersonation of a far-right Republican spokesperson failing to debunk claims against the party is going viral thanks to a new tweet insisting she "nailed" the character. The impersonation comes from Kudrow's role in the Netflix mockumentary Death to 2020. And though the film released in that same year, people online can't help but feel striking similarities between Kudrow's character and the Trump administration today. To start, in the video, Kudrow, aka "Un-Official Spokesperson" Jeanetta Grace Susan, tells cameramen, "The whole impeachment thing was baseless, OK? So, the Democrats claim that Trump pressured Ukraine into digging up dirt on the Biden family. And their only real evidence of that is a transcript of him doing it." Related: Someone offscreen asks Jeanetta what was said on the transcript, to which the character replies, "What transcript?" She's then pressed about the transcript she just mentioned, but Jeanetta doubles down by insisting, "Check your tape, I said no such thing." "You said the only real evidence is a transcript of Trump pressurizing Ukraine," the person off-camera responds. To which Jeanetta says, "There's no such place as Ukraine." Later, she's asked, "In March, the president said the pandemic would simply get out of the way, didn't he?" Jeanetta responds, "OK, see, this is what the media does. You lie, fabricate, fantasize. The president never said that." She's then played a clip of the president saying exactly that. "OK, I know this doesn't fit with your agenda," Jeanetta snaps back. "But this never happened." Related: By the end of the video, which has been viewed nearly one million times since it was shared on X, Kudrow claims she has "never supported Trump." The questioner behind the camera reminds Jeanetta that she was, in fact, a part of Trump's campaign. Cleverly, Jeanetta, aka Kudrow, shoots back, "Who's Trump?" Related: In light of recent flip-flopping on the 'Epstein files' — you know, when Attorney General Pam Bondi claimed to have a "client list" of Jeffrey Epstein's on her desk, ready for review, only for the Department of Justice to release a memo stating there is no evidence of a client list — internet users latched on to the clip. The original tweeter said the clip reminded them of "literally every Republican." Others thought the clip reminded them of a very specific Republican: White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt. Mostly, people thought the similarities between the satire and real life were "hysterical and depressing at the same time." Related: On person wrote, "Oh my God! I don't know what is up in their heads, but it is not brains or the gift of reason. MAGA believe and stake their lives on memes, but call any reporting or data into question and often see document records as a compelling reason to believe the opposite of what they indicate," another agreed. Donald Trump Calls JFK's Memorial the 'Trump/Kennedy Center' as He Previews Annual Arts Awards: 'Whoops'
The recipients of the 2025 Kennedy Center Honors will be announced on Wednesday, Aug. 13, amid MAGA's efforts to take over the cultural institution President Donald Trump ramped up his campaign to take over the Kennedy Center on Tuesday, Aug. 12, as he previewed the annual Kennedy Center Honors on social media. "GREAT Nominees for the TRUMP/KENNEDY CENTER, whoops, I mean, KENNEDY CENTER, AWARDS. They will be announced Wednesday," Trump wrote on Truth Social. "Tremendous work is being done, and money being spent, on bringing it back to the absolute TOP LEVEL of luxury, glamour, and entertainment." "It had fallen on hard times, physically, BUT WILL SOON BE MAKING A MAJOR COMEBACK!!!," the president continued, seemingly speaking about the Kennedy Center building, which is located on the eastern bank of the Potomac River in Washington, D.C. Just a few days into his second presidential term, Trump announced his plans to "make the Kennedy Center great again." He installed himself as chairman and purged most of its so-called "woke" leadership, installing a new board of conservative supporters in their place. He also appointed Richard Grenell, a member of his administration, as the institution's president and interim director. 'I want to make sure it runs properly,' Trump said at the time. 'We don't need woke at the Kennedy Center, and we don't need — some of the shows were terrible. They were a disgrace that they were even put on.' After Trump changed the Kennedy Center's leadership and programming, his supporters expressed interest in updating the name of the cultural institution. On July 22, the Republican-led House Appropriations Committee voted 33-25 to approve an amendment that calls to rename the Kennedy Center Opera House — one of the center's three main theaters — for first lady Melania Trump. The amendment is folded into a larger bill that's intended to allocate funding for the Interior Department, the Environmental Protection Agency and related agencies during the upcoming fiscal year. The bill has not yet been approved by the full House, which is now on an extended summer break. The following day, Missouri Rep. Bob Onder introduced a bill that proposed to rename the entire Kennedy Center for Trump, making it the Donald J. Trump Center for Performing Arts. Dubbed the 'Make Entertainment Great Again Act," Onder's bill said that Trump has 'entertained audiences for decades,' citing his reality show, The Apprentice, cameos in movies like Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, and the fact that he is the only U.S. president to host Saturday Night Live. 'You would be hard pressed to find a more significant cultural icon in the past 40 years than President Trump,' the congressman wrote. 'President Trump's love and mastery of entertainment has stood the test of time and allowed him to capture Americans' attention for decades. I cannot think of a more ubiquitous symbol of American exceptionalism in the arts, entertainment, and popular culture at large than President Trump.' Plans for the Kennedy Center, originally set to be named the National Cultural Center, began in the 1950s, however, by the time ground was broken to begin construction in December 1964, it had been rededicated as a "living memorial" for JFK, who was assassinated the year prior. The institution officially opened as the John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts on Sept. 8, 1971, and is home to the National Symphony Orchestra and the Washington National Opera, as well as dozens of performances each year. Each year, the Kennedy Center Honors recognize a handful of actors, musicals, cultural institutions, and more, "paying tribute to our nation's preeminent artists," according to the center's website. "Throughout its 47-year history, the Kennedy Center Honors has redefined America's perception of its artistic legacy and reinvented the way this nation rewards its artists. The Honors have been compared to a knighthood in Britain, or the French Legion of Honor -- the quintessential reward for a lifetime's endeavor." Trump's fixation on the Kennedy Center has drawn plenty of ire from members of JFK's family, who see the institution as an important part of the late president's legacy. In July, Jack Schlossberg, JFK's only grandson, shared a post on Instagram highlighting a federal law that aims to prevent the renaming of any part of the famous institution. The statute that Schlossberg shared states that as of Dec. 2, 1983, "no additional memorials or plaques in the nature of memorials shall be designated or installed in the public areas of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts." "Plain reading of the statute makes clear — YOU CAN'T DO THAT," Schlossberg, 32, wrote in the caption of his post.
