Man extradited from Republic by police investigating Belfast rape
A man has been extradited from the Republic of Ireland by detectives investigating a rape in Belfast in 2023.
The 35-year-old man was arrested in the Republic of Ireland on April 9th after an extradition warrant was issued, the Police Service of Northern Ireland said.

The extradition proceedings were completed on Friday with his return to Northern Ireland.

The man, who has not been named, is expected to appear before Belfast Magistrates' Court later on Friday.
Police said he was subject to an investigation by the PSNI's rape crime unit in relation to an alleged incident in Belfast in October 2023.
They said the man did not answer court bail in June 2024.

A man has been arrested in Pakistan for shooting a TikTok star dead just hours after she posted a video of herself celebrating her 17th birthday, according to police. Sana Yousaf, who turned 17 last week and had more than a million followers across her social media accounts, was killed at her home in the capital Islamabad on Monday evening. The 22-year-old man arrested on suspicion of her murder had spent hours loitering outside her home in the lead up to her death, police said. 'It was a case of repeated rejections. The boy was trying to reach out to her time and again,' Islamabad police chief Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi said during a news conference. 'It was a gruesome and cold-blooded murder,' Rizvi added. Yousaf had more than 800,000 followers on TikTok, a wildly popular platform in Pakistan, where she posted lip-sync videos, skincare tips, and promotional content for beauty products. The last video posted on her account was hours before her murder, in which she was seen cutting a cake for her birthday. The comments section of the video was flooded with tributes from fans and fellow TikTok creators, with many reading: 'Rest in Peace' and 'Justice for Sana'. Influencer Waliya Najib wrote: 'This doesn't feel real. You were glowing, just being 17. I'm so sorry this world didn't protect you. Rest in peace, sweetheart.' UK-based content creator Kashaf Ali wrote: 'This is so awful. A literal 17 year old with so much innocence, killed for what?' Violence against women is pervasive in Pakistan according to the country's Human Rights Commission, and cases of women being attacked after rejecting marriage proposals are not uncommon. Earlier this year, a father who moved his family from the United States to Pakistan was arrested after shooting his daughter dead in an alleged 'honour killing' over her use of social media. Anwar ul-Haq, believed to be a US citizen, was charged with murder after he admitted to shooting his 15-year-old daughter Hira dead. Mr ul-Haq had reportedly forbidden his daughter from making TikTok videos which he deemed 'inappropriate', and decided to kill her when she continued to post. Hira's family 'had an objection to her dressing, lifestyle and social gathering,' according to police. He said the father of the 15-year-old girl initially suggested that an unidentified gunman had killed his daughter, but after he was taken into custody for questioning he confessed to the crime. In 2021, 27-year-old Noor Mukadam was beheaded by her Pakistani-American boyfriend, Zahir Jaffer, after she rejected his marriage proposal in a case that sparked widespread anger. In 2016, Khadija Siddiqui survived being stabbed 23 times by a jilted ex-boyfriend. Yousaf's death comes after another TikTok beauty influencer was brutally murdered last month. Valeria Marquez, a 23-year-old TikToker and aesthetician, was shot multiple times while broadcasting live from inside her beauty salon in western Mexico. Her senseless killing was just another example of the violence against women epidemic which Mexico is grappling with. The country has long been plagued by 'machismo' culture and violence against women, which can range from comments on the street to, in its most extreme form, acid attacks and brutal murders.

A man forced his way into a woman's home and raped her in what police have described as a "terrifying ordeal".Jason Wren, 32, of Redmayne Drive, Hastings, wore a mask when he attacked the woman, who he not know, at at a property in Hastings, on 30 woman opened the door expecting a delivery, but was subjected to an "ordeal that lasted around 15 minutes", police was found guilty of rape, attempted rape and trespassing with intent to commit a sexual offence at Hove Crown Court on Tuesday. He had grabbed the woman by the throat, bruising her neck, and told her not to make a noise otherwise he would hurt her, according to the Crown Prosecution then forced her upstairs, before raping her, telling her he would kill her if she Ch Insp Mark Cullimore, from Sussex Police, said: "This was a terrifying ordeal that happened in the victim's own home, a place she should be able to feel completely safe. "I'm pleased the jury were able to see through his claims and rightly hold him to account for his predatory and violent behaviour."Wren will be sentenced on 12 September.

Prison officers told to wear body armour in high-security jails after attacks
Justice Secretary Shabana Mahmood said prison officers would be told to wear body armour in settings at the highest categories of prisons in England and Wales, telling MPs it would apply to close supervision centres, separation centres and segregation units. It came as shadow justice secretary Robert Jenrick repeated his warning that a prison officer could be killed unless stronger action is taken. The incident at HMP Long Lartin on Saturday was the latest in a series of attacks on prison officers in recent months. The staff member at the prison near Evesham, Worcestershire, had to undergo emergency surgery after being stabbed by an inmate and is now said to be in a stable condition. Meanwhile in May, Southport triple killer Axel Rudakubana was accused of throwing boiling water at a prison officer through a cell door at HMP Belmarsh, causing minor injuries. A month previously, Manchester bomb plotter Hashem Abedi was moved to Belmarsh from HMP Frankland after allegedly throwing boiling cooking oil at three prison officers. Abedi was previously found guilty of attacking a prison officer in 2020. Ms Mahmood asked Jonathan Hall KC to lead an independent review into events at Frankland in County Durham, which will examine whether current protection for prison officers is sufficient. He will also evaluate whether separation centres, which are in place to manage the most dangerous prisoners, are fit for purpose. She told MPs on Tuesday: 'Today, I can announce I will mandate its use in close supervision centres, separation centres and segregation units in the high security estate. 'This is my initial response to the review, but I will set out further action on body armour in due course. 'When Jonathan Hall's independent review into the Frankland attack reports, I will take any further steps necessary to protect our brave staff.' Mr Jenrick told MPs he still fears for prison officers' safety, as he hit out at Rudakubana having access to 'treats' such as Pringles and Maltesers. He said: 'Brave prison officers are under attack if the Government doesn't act now. I'm warning once again that an officer will be killed on the Justice Secretary's watch. After the Southport killer Axel Rudakubana allegedly attacked an officer with boiling water, he is now bingeing on treats like Maltesers and Pringles. 'When will the Justice Secretary strip Rudakubana and monsters like him of these privileges and put them in solitary confinement, and when will she finally have the backs of all our brave prison officers by giving each and every one of them the protection that they need in the form of high-collar, stab-proof vests, not just a privileged view in the most limited circumstances?' Ms Mahmood said: 'Let me just give the shadow minister a much-needed education here because he appears not to know that under the Tory government, violence on staff in our prisons soared and experienced officers left in droves because of it. 'That is inheritance that I have received and that is the mess that this Government is clearing up. He will know I have already acted on suspending the use of self-cook facilities, I've got Jonathan Hall looking into the HMP Frankland attack, I've made the announcement on body armour, and I won't hesitate to take any further action, but unlike him I won't make, and I quote 'headline-grabbing measures', just for the sake of a headline.'
