Can Sean Diddy Combs escape prison in sex trial? Trump's unexpected move might flip US rapper's case

Time of India17 hours ago
As a verdict looms in disgraced US rapper Sean 'Diddy' Combs' criminal trial and the world edges closer to discovering his fate, one person could pardon him from his potential crimes -i.e. US President Donald Trump. Sean Diddy's five charges range from racketeering to sex trafficking, and he's pleaded not guilty and denied any and all wrongdoing. The jury has decided on four of the charges but remains hung on the racketeering count.
If convicted, Diddy faces a possible death sentence. But Donald Trump holds the power to pardon Diddy, who has the authority to clear him as he did for Todd and Julie Chrisley, reports The Irish Star. Trump commented on the potential for a pardon back in May.

What Trump said on pardoning Sean Diddy Combs?
The current president has the power to absolve Diddy and he shared his thoughts on the possibility. On May 30, during a press conference, a journalist asked Donald Trump, "You mentioned once in 2012 that Diddy was a good friend of yours back then. He has since found himself in some very serious legal trouble. Would you ever consider pardoning him?"
Trump replied, "Nobody's asked, but I know people are thinking about it," and added, "Some people have been very close to asking."

Trump elaborated, "First of all, I'd look at what's happening. And I haven't been watching it too closely, although it's certainly getting a lot of coverage. I haven't seen him, I haven't spoken to him in years."
Trump also spoke about his friendship about Sean Diddy Combs noting, "He used to really like me a lot, but I think when I ran for politics, that relationship busted up from what I read. I don't know, he didn't tell me that, but I'd read some nasty statements in the paper all of a sudden."

"It's different, you become a much different person when you run for politics, and you do what's right. I could do other things, and I'm sure he'd like me, and I'm sure other people would like me, but it wouldn't be as good for our country. Like we said, our country is doing really well because of what we're doing. It's not a popularity contest," he elaborated.
The president concluded, saying, "I would certainly look at the facts. If I saw someone was mistreated, whether they liked me or don't like me, it wouldn't have any impact."
The jury deliberating on Diddy's case is set to continue their discussions tomorrow, July 2, focusing on the racketeering charge.

Oil prices fall nearly 1% on US demand concerns

International crude oil prices dropped Thursday morning due to weakening demand indicators from the US, reversing gains from the previous session, experts said. Crude oil inventory in the US rose by 3.8 million barrels to 419 million barrels in the week ending 27 June, according data from the US Energy Information Administration, raising concerns of a weakening demand in the world's largest economy and the largest consumer of oil. Also, gasoline demand during the week under review fell to 8.6 million barrels per day from 9.7 million barrels a week ago raising demand fears amid the ongoing summer driving season in the US. Around 8:20 am, the August contract of Brent on the Intercontinental Exchange was trading at $68.47 per barrel, lower by 0.93% from its previous close. The August contract on the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) on the NYMEX was trading 0.89% lower at $66.85 a barrel. The prices eased after a 3% surge on Wednesday after Iran suspended its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), raising concerns, raising concerns of another escalation in the West Asian conflict. Further, President Donald Trump's announcement of the US reaching a trade deal with Vietnam also supported the crude prices on Wednesday as it raised hopes of other trade deals coming through ahead of the 9 July deadline set by Trump. Crude prices have been below $70 per barrel after the ceasefire announcement between Iran and Israel on 24 June. Recently, union minister for petroleum and natural gas Hardeep Singh Puri said that crude prices may stabilise in the range of $60-65 a barrel after declining from their recent highs, according to Union minister for petroleum and natural gas Hardeep Singh. "This range is fine," Puri said on the sidelines of an event. India imports about 85% of its total oil consumption, and an increase in prices would inflate the import bill, hurting economic growth. During the conflict, India closely monitored the situation and looked at alternative sources for importing oil in case the Strait of Hormuz was blocked. India has diversified its oil import sources to nearly 40 countries after the global markets witnessed significant volatility in 2022 amid the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The Indian crude oil basket, which is a weighted average of different crude oil grades processed in Indian refineries, stood at $68.27 per barrel on 1 July. The average basket price in June was $69.77 a barrel, against $64.04 per barrel in May.

'Because I fight for working people': Mamdani on why Trump wants him arrested- watch

New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani on Wednesday responded to Donald Trump's repeated calls for his arrest and deportation, saying the US president's hostility wasn't about his identity but about what he stood for. "Yesterday, Donald Trump said that I should be arrested. He said that I should be deported. He said that I should be denaturalised. And he said those things about me, someone who stands to be the first immigrant mayor of this city in generations, someone who would also be the first Muslim and the first South Asian mayor in this city's history," he said addressing a gathering. "It is less so because of who I am, because of where I come from, because of how I look or how I speak, and more so because he wants to distract from what I fight for. I fight for working people," he added. — ZohranKMamdani (@ZohranKMamdani) He further said that Trump's attack was aimed at fanning "the flames of division than to acknowledging the ways in which he has betrayed those working class Americans not just in this city but across this country and the ways in which he continues to betray them." Criticising the Big Beautiful Bill, Mamdani said, "Legislation that will steal food from the hungry. Legislation that looks to build upon one of the largest transfers of wealth we've seen in recent history in his first administration and do it once again for the very Americans who have had enough." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like [Click Here] 2025 Top Trending local enterprise accounting software Expertinspector Learn More Undo The recent remarks came after Trump vowed to not "let this Communist Lunatic destroy New York". "As President of the United States, I'm not going to let this Communist Lunatic destroy New York. Rest assured, I hold all the levers, and have all the cards. I'll save New York City, and make it 'Hot' and 'Great' again, just like I did with the Good Ol' USA!" he said in a post on Truth Social. Mamdani's victory over Andrew Cuomo has made him a prime Republican target, as they try to portray Democrats as extreme ahead of upcoming elections. If elected, Mamdani would be New York City's furthest-left mayor in modern history, with a platform of city-run groceries, free buses, rent freezes, and higher property taxes on wealthy areas.
