Qatar, Egypt intensify Gaza truce efforts

The State of Qatar and the Arab Republic of Egypt announced that they are continuing their intensive efforts to bridge gaps and overcome points of contention to reach a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, based on the proposal presented by US Special Envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff.
The proposal aims to resume indirect negotiations on that basis.
In a joint statement, Qatar and Egypt affirmed their intent — in coordination with the United States of America — to intensify efforts to resolve the obstacles facing the negotiation process. Both countries called on all parties to act responsibly and support the mediators' efforts to end the crisis in Gaza Strip and restore stability and calm to the region.
The two nations expressed their hope for a swift agreement on a temporary 60-day truce, paving the way for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.
Such an agreement would help alleviate the unprecedented humanitarian crisis, facilitate the opening of border crossings, and allow the entry of humanitarian and relief aid to ease the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza and end the war completely.
It would also mark the beginning of post-war reconstruction efforts, in line with the plan endorsed at the Arab Emergency Summit in Cairo on March 4, 2025.

QRCS, talabat raise over QR 300,000 for Gaza
Tribune News Network Doha A joint campaign co-implemented by Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) and talabat, the leading on-demand delivery platform in the MENA region, has successfully raised over QR 300,000 for Gaza relief efforts. The one-month campaign received a stronger-than-expected response from talabat customers, who chose to redeem and convert their reward points into donations on the talabat app. This contribution will go to QRCS, in support of its ongoing efforts to provide the blockade with every possible form of relief assistance, including water, food and medical care, amid such an unprecedented humanitarian calamity. In a statement, Faisal Mohamed Al-Emadi, Secretary-General of QRCS, expressed his sincerest gratitude to the benevolent people of Qatar, who made the campaign a remarkable success with their donations and compassion. 'It was another impressive episode of solidarity and support from the people of Qatar towards their Palestinian brothers and sisters,' said Al-Emadi. 'Even the smallest donation can make a real difference in the lives of the affected people of Gaza.' This is not the first time QRCS and talabat join hands for charity. In November 2024, a similar campaign raised over QR 1.1 million in donations, to support relief interventions for the war victims in both Gaza and Lebanon.

Qatar hopes efforts to end Gaza war will succeed: Dr Al Ansari
Dr Al Ansari expressed hope that these efforts would succeed, unlike previous attempts that were not implemented on the ground. Regarding the visit of American envoy Steve Witkoff to Doha or Cairo, Dr Al Ansari said that there are currently no confirmations, but communication continues on a daily basis with the American envoy. As for Netanyahu's conditions regarding ending the war in the Gaza Strip, Dr Al Ansari said that the mediation is concerned with official responses to the proposed draft, not with media statements issued by various parties. He emphasised that the primary goal is to reach the fastest possible ceasefire to spare lives, in light of the daily humanitarian losses in the Gaza Strip due to bombing, food and medicine shortages, and the deterioration of the health sector. He confirmed that the proposal accepted by Hamas includes a clear plan to reach a comprehensive agreement to end the war. Regarding Arab and Islamic coordination, Dr Al Ansari referred to the statement issued mid-month by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of 31 Arab and Islamic countries, which condemned the Israeli Prime Minister's statements about what is called Greater Israel vision. He said that there is near-daily coordination between foreign ministers of Arab and Islamic countries and their counterparts in friendly countries to unify positions regarding Israeli escalation. Dr Al Ansari underlined that Israeli officials are now presenting positions that go beyond the occupation of Gaza or the West Bank or the isolation of Jerusalem, to include talk of occupying sovereign Arab countries, which constitutes a clear violation of international law. He said Qatar has repeatedly condemned these practices, including the settlement plan to separate East Jerusalem from the West Bank, stressing that such policies will not bring security to Israel and will not lead to calming the situation in the region. The official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs addressed the US-Russia summit that brought together US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. He expressed Qatar's hope that these efforts would contribute to reaching a comprehensive and sustainable solution to the Russia-Ukraine crisis, reiterating Qatar's position calling for peaceful solutions. He said Qatar initiated humanitarian solutions, most notably the reunification of children affected by the war with their families, confirming that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through Minister of State for International Cooperation HE Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, is continuing follow up on this file with the concerned parties. Dr Al Ansari also referred to the continued efforts of Qatar in supporting the peace process in the Republic of the Congo. He said Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs HE Dr Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi is in constant contact with the concerned parties. 'Qatar is working to facilitate negotiations despite the complexity of the situation, with a commitment to finding constructive solutions and supporting the will of the parties to reach a sustainable agreement,' he said.

Israel has killed nearly 19,000 children in Gaza war as strikes intensify
At least 18,885 children are among the more than 62,000 Palestinians killed by Israel since the start of its genocidal war in Gaza nearly two years ago, Gaza's Government Media Office has said. The staggering, grim milestone comes as the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) said on Tuesday that no place is safe for children enclave, where Israeli-induced starvation is rife due to Israel's blockading of desperately-needed aid and medical supplies. UN-run schools have become shelters for 'hundreds of thousands of people' in Gaza amid constant Israeli bombardments that have levelled homes, UNRWA said. Palestinians have 'sought protection under the UN flag' only for the shelters to be targeted. '[And] become a place for death, including for too many children. No place is safe for children in Gaza. Ceasefire now,' the agency said. Citing the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF), UNRWA noted that in the past five months of the war, since Israel unilaterally shattered a ceasefire deal and resumed attacks, 'an average of over 540 children have been killed every month, per reports'. The warnings come as at least 51 Palestinians were killed in Israeli attacks since dawn on Tuesday. Among them are at least eight aid seekers who lost their lives when Israeli forces opened fire near the United States and Israeli-backed GHF aid distribution sites – a daily deadly gauntlet Palestinians have suffered leading to nearly 2,000 deaths since late May. Hospitals in Gaza said at least eight people were killed in attacks on tents sheltering displaced people in Khan Younis, and four more were killed in a strike on a tent in Deir el-Balah, in central Gaza. Israeli forces are also stepping up an assault on Gaza City despite global warnings urging Israel to cease expanding operations there. Israel says a total of 50 captives remain in Gaza, 20 of them still alive. Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Majed Al Ansari said the 60-day truce deal would include 'a pathway to a comprehensive agreement to end the war'. The proposal includes a partial withdrawal of Israeli forces, which presently occupy 75 percent of Gaza and the entry of more humanitarian aid into the enclave, where a population of 2.2 million people is increasingly facing an Israeli-induced famine. Israel's government has not officially responded, but Israeli media citing senior officials suggest the far-right government is dissatisfied with a limited prisoner-captive exchange and may insist on the release of all 50 Israeli captives as part of any deal. Al Jazeera's senior political analyst, Marwan Bishara, said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has calculated that it's no longer in his 'interest' to agree to a partial ceasefire. 'I think for him [Netanyahu] he is winning the war, for him Hamas is on the way to defeat, for him there's a green light from Washington, and I just don't think, except in a very, very exceptional circumstance, that he will agree,' to a deal, Bishara said. Israeli tanks completed taking control of the Zeitoun suburb in Gaza City and continued to pound the nearby area of Sabra. Local health authorities said dozens of people had been trapped in their houses because of the shelling. Among them is Suha Maqat, a once celebrated para-athlete who is trapped in Gaza City, alone and blind in one eye. Like other Palestinians with disabilities, her situation means it's impossible for her to follow Israel's forced displacement orders – which has already forced thousands to flee over the past few days. Spokesperson for Gaza's Civil Defence Mahmoud Bassal said the situation was 'very dangerous and unbearable' in the Zeitoun and Sabra neighbourhoods of Gaza City, where he said 'artillery shelling continues intermittently'. Sabra resident Hussein al-Dairi, 44, said 'tanks are firing shells and mortars, and drones are firing bullets and missiles' in the neighbourhood. 'We heard on the news that Hamas had agreed to a truce, but the occupation is escalating the war against us, the civilians,' he added. More Palestinians have also died from malnutrition and starvation, including three reported in the past 24 hours, Gaza's Health Ministry said. It said 154 adults have died of malnutrition since late June, when it began counting such deaths, and 112 children have died of hunger since the war began.
