But while 2023 brought several dating rumors relating to Gomez — including Zayn Malik and The Chainsmokers' Drew Taggart — they all ended up being fruitless, with the Rare Beauty founder confirming her single status several times with funny posts on social media. That is, until Benny Blanco came along.
The pop producer, who was previously linked to model Elsie Hewitt, proved to be the real deal for Gomez. He started off as one of the 'Lose You to Love Me' singer's collaborators, having also engineered songs for artists such as Ed Sheeran, Katy Perry, Halsey, Kesha, Britney Spears and, ironically, Bieber. The unexpected couple privately started dating midway through 2023, keeping their relationship out of the spotlight for several months before going public.
Since then, the two stars haven't been shy about sharing sweet photos of each other on social media, as well as showing their love through custom accessories. Gomez would later reveal in December that she'd been dating Blanco for about six months, meaning they were likely already dating when the song dropped.In October 2023, Gomez hosted her inaugural Rare Impact Fund Benefit, which supported youth mental health. And guess who was on the guest list? One Benny Blanco. And though they hadn't yet gone public with their relationship at the time, the pair was already an item at this point.
Following rumors of the pair's romance, Gomez confirmed her relationship with Blanco in a series of comments to fans on Instagram. 'He is my absolute everything in my heart,' she commented on a since-deleted Instagram post by a fan account, before replying to other commenters. 'I don't understand. If you actually care about me. This is my happiest. If you don't, feel free to say whatever you want. But I will never allow your words to guide my life. Ever. I'm done. If you can't accept me at my happiest then don't be in [my] life at all.'
She also said at the time that she and the producer had already been dating for half a year by that point, telling one fan, 'It's been 6 months bb.'
Gomez followed up her comments about her relationship with a few photos of Blanco on her Instagram Story, as well as a snap of a letter 'B' ring — presumably a tribute to her new beau's initials.
Gomez shared her first pictures with Blanco on her Instagram feed, including one of the couple posing with a group of friends and one of the producer wrapping her in a romantic kiss.Days after the 'Calm Down' singer confirmed her romance with Blanco, her cover story with Vogue México y Latinoamérica went live. Just a couple days after Christmas, the Only Murders in the Building star posted snaps from her date with Blanco at what appeared to be Luna Luna: Forgotten Fantasy, an amusement park-inspired art exhibit in Los Angeles. The singer-actress was still in her crimson Giorgio Armani gown in the snap, while the pop music engineer sported a suit jacket and gold necklaces.
And even though Gomez lost for best TV performance by a female actor, musical or comedy, she definitely left feeling like a victor that night. 'I won,' she sweetly captioned her photo with Blanco.
Gomez brought Blanco to the 2024 Emmys, where her show with co-stars Martin Short and Steve Martin Only Murders in the Building was nominated for best comedy series. (The award ended up going to FX's hit project The Bear.) In one clip from the night, the producer blew a kiss to Gomez before parting ways with the actress so that she could take on the red carpet solo.
Afterward, Blanco joined the 'Love On' singer in taking their seats inside Los Angeles' Peacock Theater next to Short and Martin.
Gomez commemorated V-Day by sharing a selfie on Instagram Stories of her and Blanco flashing peace signs for the camera. 'I love you,' she captioned the post, simply but powerfully.
In an interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music 1, Gomez opened up about the security Blanco gives her.
'Without getting into too much detail, I think it's just really important to meet someone that respects you,' she told the radio host. 'And I think it's really nice to also lean on someone who understands the world that I live in.'
'I'd have to say overall, it's the safest that I feel and it's been really lovely,' she added. 'I've only grown through it, so it's awesome.'
In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Blanco revealed that he first realized he had feelings for Gomez while the pair were in a recording session together. 'I was the last one to know,' he noted. 'It's crazy how your partner could just be sitting there the whole time, right in front of your eyes, and you don't even notice, and then you have that Clueless moment where you're like, 'Wait, I'm in love.''
The producer also told the publication that he and the singer, who share a passion for cooking, often work together in the kitchen. At one point, they collaborated on a steakhouse dinner for their families, with Gomez's corn casserole and his own corn bread with honey butter stealing the show.
During an interview on The Howard Stern Show, Blanco was forthright about his longterm plans with Gomez: having kids, which he hinted at wanting sooner rather than later. A little over a month after announcing the project, Blanco and Gomez unveiled their first collaborative album, I Said I Love You First. The project debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and sold 120,000 units in its first week.
'It just felt like it was a little taste of what we are and how we made this together, and how much we loved it and how much we love each other,' Gomez described the project in an interview with Apple Music's Zane Lowe. 'And it just felt like it was meant to be.'
In an adorable Instagram video, Blanco showed off the sweet way he gave Gomez the prom experience after learning she never attended the dance when she was a teenager. Inviting her to get all dressed up as he donned a tuxedo, the couple took cheesy photos together at the mall.

Celebrity chef planning pop-up bakery at historic 16th century home, documents show
Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver is apparently seeking to turn a former stable block at his historic home into a pop-up takeaway bakery, news agency SWNS reported. The small pop-up would run in August only. The English chef has applied for planning permission to change the use of the former block to serve baked goods, sandwiches and coffee at his home on a month-long trial. "There isn't anything definite, just ideas at this stage," a representative told Fox News Digital. If approved, the bakery would operate on the grounds of Spains Hall in England, a Grade I-listed home built around 1570 in an area that has been used to host weddings. "The proposed temporary change of use offers the opportunity to trial a new small-scale commercial use within a rural location, which will not cause any detrimental heritage, traffic or amenity impacts," a statement from the chef's representatives to SWNS said. Grade I-listed buildings in the United Kingdom are structures of exceptional national, architectural or historical importance. They represent the highest level of protection under the planning system, according to Historic England's website. Oliver, who is listed as the applicant on plans submitted to Braintree District Council, has submitted several supporting documents via his representatives. He outlined the proposal to open the bakery throughout August, operating seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is estimated that six employees would be needed for the bakery and deliveries would be made three times a week. Said Oliver's representatives, "The existing kitchen within the building will be used for food preparation." They added, "Public access would be restricted to the main room open plan within the building plus the toilets, both of which are on the ground floor." The application stated that customers would use the existing parking in the back of the stable block, while an extra area would be available for an overflow if needed. Oliver's representatives said the proposals would have "no impact on the scale, amount, design, layout or access to the site." "No physical alterations are required to the building internally or externally in support of the proposals and there is no impact on any areas of soft landscaping or habitat." Since the Middle Ages, the house and estate in Finchingfield, Essex, have been in the ownership of just three families. It was sold to Oliver in 2019. The coach house and stable block originally date from the 18th century and were first listed in 1967, when they were used as stables. In recent years, it has been used to host weddings and other functions, SWNS reported. No public comments have been registered so far and a decision on the application will be made by the council later. Benny Blanco Found Love and Wants the Same for You: 'Don't Settle"
Benny Blanco is so ready to be a wife guy. So much so that when I approach his Beverly Hills abode—a Tuscan-style home where he's lived the past six years solo, cushioned by hedges and hot pink bougainvillea flowers—the award-winning songwriter-producer greets me after his workout wearing floral gym shorts, plus a tie-dye T-shirt bearing a portrait of himself and his pop star fiancée, Selena Gomez, printed across the chest. 'It was a gift from my friend Patrick,' says Blanco, 37. 'I don't know what's wrong with me.'Our interview takes place inside his personal movie theater, where the couch and walls are equally swathed in plush red velvet upholstery. A nearby candy bar is stocked with M&M'S, Skittles, and a myriad of other sweet treats. Yet Blanco will soon frequent his meticulously curated home much less; just after announcing their engagement in December 2024, he and Gomez purchased a Spanish-style estate in the Hills, where he'll have an abundance of space to work his magic in—'magic' as in interior decorating.'I love making a house my own,' he says. 'I'm not in there with the staple gun, but I'm in there with tchotchkes and a lot of creativity and heart. I hate it when you go into a person's house and you're like, 'Ooh, it feels like nobody lives here!' I don't want to be scared to sit down on shit.' In March, Blanco and Gomez released their joint album, I Said I Love You First, a collection of saccharine pop vignettes devised in a guest room in Blanco's home and primarily sung by Gomez in her signature sad-girl dulcet tones. The project came about organically, says Blanco, after many romantic moments spent sharing records. The two have bonded over classics by Aretha Franklin—'One Step Ahead' is the couple's favorite—and Taylor Swift, who happens to be one of Gomez's longtime pals.'In the car, we'll have our little Swiftie moment,' he says. 'She's a true Swiftie, through and through. Then she got me on the train, and now I'm a full Swiftie. I don't listen to a ton of contemporary music anyways, but Selena would play me the deep cuts. And I was like, 'Damn… Taylor's pen is so fire!'I Said I Love You First—and its deluxe edition released on May 2nd, …And You Said It Back—wasn't Blanco's first collaboration with Gomez. The two first melded minds in the studio while making Gomez's 2015 album, Revival, which yielded two of her biggest hits to date: 'Same Old Love' and 'Kill Em With Kindness.' 'I met Selena when she was 16,' Blanco says, explaining her mom connected them professionally as she prepared to sign a record deal. 'We didn't work together until many years later. They say you've probably already met the person that you're gonna spend the rest of your life with… I never believed that shit until it happened to me.''And now I get to kiss her,' he adds. 'It's like my own little fairytale I concocted.' He won't say as much, but his songs with Gomez are just a handful of highlights in Blanco's illustrious career. He founded his boutique labels under Interscope (Mad Love and Friends Keep Secrets) and boasts credits on some of the biggest hits of the past 20 years, including Kesha's 'TiK ToK,' Katy Perry's 'Teenage Dream,' and Maroon 5's 'Moves Like Jagger.' Blanco was just 20 years old when he was signed as a producer to Kasz Money Productions, which is how he ended up working on the first major hit in his repertoire: Britney Spears's 2008 classic, 'Circus.' 'I was like, 'Mom, I'm going in the studio with Britney Spears,'' Blanco recalls. 'She was like, 'No, you're not.' And I was like, 'I swear, I am!' That's how it was. Even when my songs got big, my mom was like, 'Yeah, but what's your backup plan?'' For all his resulting fame and fortune, Blanco coasts through our conversation with an unpretentious, down-to-earth cool. He was born Benjamin Joseph Levin in Grand Prairie, Texas—the exact same birthplace as his betrothed—and was raised between Virginia and Maryland. He first developed an affinity for pop when he was 5 years old, citing his mother's copy of the 1992 Prince album, Love Symbol, which Blanco remembers as 'his 'Sexy M.F.' era.' 'We used to have one of those portable CD players that you had to plug into the wall, so I would drag that around everywhere and just get naked and dance,' Blanco recalls. 'My first two [records] I ever bought were [singles]: Nas, 'The World Is Yours,' and All-4-One's 'I Swear.' That's what started it all.' Blanco attended public school in Virginia, where he made friends of various nationalities and walks of life—and he studied their music, too. Under the influence of DMV-area legends like Timbaland, Missy Elliott, and Pharrell Williams, Blanco experimented on beats with his buddies using the Korg Triton, the holy grail of the Virginia sound, and aughts-era production software like Fruity Loops and Sound Forge. Thanks to the burgeoning club music scene in neighboring Baltimore and the bloghaus sound bubbling up in New York City, Blanco began building his own effervescent and quirky approach to pop by collaborating with rapper Spank Rock, as well as the late turntablist Disco D. College wasn't on the agenda for Blanco, who skipped class in high school to play at dance parties in Brooklyn. But he didn't even possess a laptop, a turntable, or a hard drive—just a cumbersome iMac G5 monitor he drove up from Virginia and lugged sheepishly from club to club. After his shows, Blanco and his friends 'would sleep in the train station, a park, or even the McDonald's in Times Square.' As for his parents, he adds, 'They didn't really know. Are you kidding me? My mom would have lost her mind if she knew I was sleeping on a park bench!' Blanco considers his mother to be his biggest role model. In the wake of her divorce from Blanco's father, she equipped her son with ample relationship advice. 'My mom always took the time to explain how a female mind works because she was going through so many dating traumas when I was growing up,' he explains, crediting her love for painting and music as a source of his own creativity, joy, and tenderness. 'I've had some tough times, but I've always been like a very happy person. I just wake up stoked every day.' His resulting emotional intelligence became evident during a recent appearance on celebrity life coach Jay Shetty's 'On Purpose' podcast. Blanco left audiences positively floored by the ease with which he took responsibility for his role in maintaining relational harmony: 'I think people's biggest problem, especially men, is we don't listen all the time... A woman will tell you exactly what she needs.' 'I'm 37 years old,' says Blanco. 'I hope I know how to treat a woman by now! Like, you should always ask a woman what they wanna do. Don't always talk about yourself. Then you put it into practice… and you fuck up so much, oh my God. You know how many frogs I had to kiss to get to Selena?'I can't help but wrinkle my nose at the comparison. 'They were beautiful frogs!' Blanco assures me, 'And like, guys are so bad... I know so many awesome women who are single. And it's like, how are they single? They're 10 out of 10! But there are so many fuckboys. Don't settle, ladies. Not for some dude that uses more hair gel than you do.' It begs my next question: Did you have any men in your life who helped you develop emotional competency? To that, he smiles and shakes his head. 'Nah,' he says. 'But some things [I] learn from friends of mine. Then sometimes you see your friend do something rad, and you're like, 'Ooh, I'm taking that little idea.' You stop learning when you stop listening.' Besides planning their upcoming wedding, Gomez has been in New York shooting the fifth season of Only Murders in the Building, the Emmy-winning mystery comedy series with Martin Short and Steve Martin. In the meantime, Blanco dreams of starting a family with Gomez someday. 'I love kids; I love being an uncle,' he intimates. 'I want to be a dad, though, God willing. I'm just dreaming and praying every day.' And he hopes their latest record, with all the love and goodwill baked into it, will resonate with young men and women looking for their other halves—musical and otherwise. 'These are the years of strong women, and to me, it's so important that powerful women are being heard and loved and respected,' Blanco says. 'I can't wait to see what it does for this next generation of music. All The Celebrities On Forbes' 2025 List Of America's Richest Self-Made Women
In business, timing is everything—even for the rich and famous. The boom time for celebrity entrepreneurship took off like a rocket around the end of 2020, and the pop stars, actors and talk show hosts who best took advantage minted fortunes in the hundreds of millions, even billions in a few cases, by putting their name on everything from cosmetics brands to TV and movie production companies. But now they, like many others, are feeling the effects of a cooling economy. On Forbes' list of America's Richest Self-Made Women this year, 16 celebrities rank among the 100 entrepreneurs, executives and entertainers. In order to make the cut, candidates had to be worth at least $350 million—up from $300 million last year and $225 million in 2023. These stars of the stage and screen are collectively worth $14.1 billion, up from $13.3 billion last year—thanks to the addition of actress Selena Gomez (No. 48), who isn't yet a billionaire but whose estimated $700 million net worth makes up almost the entirety of that difference. Most of the other 15 stars' fortunes are little changed from a year ago. Gomez launched her cosmetics company Rare Beauty at the start of the celebrity business boom, in September 2020, and it disclosed $367 million in revenue by 2023. Similarly, Judy Sheindlin (No. 61) signed a mega deal in late 2020 to move her eponymous TV arbitration show to Amazon Prime; pop star Rihanna (No. 35) raised money for her Savage x Fenty lingerie brand at a $1 billion valuation in early 2021; Madonna (No. 42) signed a lucrative new deal with Warner Music that summer; and, perhaps most notably, movie star Reese Witherspoon (No. 82) sold a majority stake in her production company Hello Sunshine in August 2021 at a reported $900 million valuation. The Hello Sunshine sale is now referenced regularly throughout Hollywood as the peak of a celebrity production bubble. At the time of the acquisition by Blackstone-backed Candle Media, the company projected $80 million in profit by 2023. But according to an October 2023 report in Bloomberg, it produced less than $10 million that year, and the pace of new productions has only continued to slow in the two years since. As of 2025, Forbes estimates Hello Sunshine is worth less than a third of its sale price. (A representative for Witherspoon disagreed with Forbes, but offered no guidance.) Markets have similarly cooled in the cosmetics space, the industry behind several women on the list, including Gomez, Rihanna, Kardashian and her half-sister Kylie Jenner (No. 52). Forbes estimates Rihanna's net worth dropped nearly 30% in the past year, due to estimates of flat sales at Fenty Beauty and lingerie brand Savage X Fenty. 'The market condition right now is exerting a sort of downward pressure on valuation,' Morningstar analyst Dan Su told Forbes in early May, referring to cosmetics firms. The same goes for music catalogs. The big outlier to this trend is Taylor Swift (No. 21), whose wealth increased by $300 million in the past year to $1.6 billion, according to Forbes estimates. Her signature Eras Tour started in 2023 and ended in December 2024, grossing a record-breaking $2 billion and generating earnings in a variety of ways, including ticket sales, a blockbuster movie and a book about the tour, a phenomenon that made her immune to the trend that hit other celebrities.
