Bosses have applied for permission for the new store in Port Glasgow, Inverclyde.
If given the green light, the fashion and homeware retailer will have a store in the town's Gallagher Shopping Park.
The unit is right next to an Aldi but currently houses a Poundland.
But the Port Glasgow Poundland is one of the 100 stores the bargain retailer has sold off.
Matalan want to make a lot of changes to the unit of they take over.
They want to "demolish existing walls, doors and services and strip back to shell from current occupier".
It will also add new compartment walls, partition walls, doors, fire doors, furniture and services.
There are currently 26 Matalan stores in Scotland and it is an extremely popular option for shoppers.
The chain has currently launched a launched a massive 50 per cent sale on clothing and homeware with prices starting from just 50p.
There are hundreds of other clothing and homeware items on offer ready to be snapped up.
Matalan expands and renovates as Sainsburys axes caffeinated fan favourite
The latest big sale comes as Matalan superfans have recently been raving about their lesser-known clearance stores which have items up to 70% off.
The possibility of a new shop is good news for the retail sector in a time when more shops are closing and high streets continue to suffer.
Just last month, Matalan announced they would be opening ten new shops across the country in a massive shake-up for the firm.
Despite businesses feeling the squeeze, the future looks bright for some.
We told how Aldi revealed 115 "prime" locations where they want to open new shops.

Chocolate lovers racing to Poundland to try new flavour of Nestle Milkybar scanning at tills for just £1.50
A BRAND-new Nestle flavour has hit the shelves and it's been spotted in Poundland for just £1.50. The Swiss confectionery giant's new Milkybar features a vanilla-flavoured biscuit centre and a milk chocolate base. Posting in the Facebook group New Foods UK, a shopper wrote: "Actually really enjoyed this new Milkybar Chocolate Crumble Bar. "The crunchy cookie pieces with the creamy chocolate works so well. Now available at Poundland." While many chimed in with enthusiasm, one user insisted: "Nothing should be mixed with Milkybar chocolate." The 84g Milkybar Chocolate Crumble was priced at £2.00 in Sainsbury's but now seems to be out of stock. It combines a vanilla-flavoured filling with biscuit pieces, layered on a milk chocolate base and coated in white chocolate. This crumbly twist has a crunchier texture compared to the classic Milkybar. The whole bar packs around 460 kcal, with each of the five segments containing about 92 kcal. A Nestle spokesperson said earlier in the year: "This year, Nestlé is set to introduce a range of exciting confectionery products. "Keep an eye on this space for delightful surprises in store." The company has been expanding its product range in 2025, introducing several new chocolate products alongside innovations in coffee. These chocolate bites are packed with a rich double chocolate brownie flavour and Aero's recognisable bubbly texture. They appear to be exclusive to Sainsbury's for now. It comes months after shoppers spotted another Milkybar flavour from Nestle on supermarket shelves. The Biscoff Milkybar is available at B&M for just £1 - much cheaper than the £2.99 price listed on iFoods UK online. When adding the £6.99 shipping fee, a single bar from iFoods costs nearly £10. Nestle - the world's largest food and beverage company - was founded in 1866 by German-born pharmacist Henri Nestlé in Switzerland. While it originally began with infant formula, its product range now extends from baby food and coffee to confectionery and pet care. The company owns well-known brands like KitKat, Milkybar, Nescafé, Perrier and Purina. 2

It is now going under the hammer via Auction House Scotland livestream on August 21. The award-winning establishment comprises an established restaurant and bar, as well as a B&B. It has five en-suite rooms, plus three private rooms which were formerly used as owner accommodation. Detached from the main building is the Old Barn Bar with 30 covers, which can be run independently all year round. The established gastro pub is described as having "a strong reputation amongst locals and tourists alike", with a 4.7 rating on Google Reviews. And it is said to be a great "opportunity to grow an already successful restaurant and B&B". The auction listing states: "Within stunning surroundings, the property comprises a lounge/bar, restaurant and commercial kitchen on the ground floor. "The upper level offers five ensuite B&B rooms plus three private rooms, formerly used as owners' accommodation. "It's popular with locals and tourists, being one of the few pubs on the Hebrides. "The overall plot extends to approximately 0.5 acre, including a generous beer garden and car park. "Indications have previously been given that the council would be amenable to planning for camping on the spaces available at the beer garden. 'High level' of tourist demand on Lewis THE LISTING also goes on to describe the local area and revealed that tourist demand on the island is at a "high level". It said: "The Cross Inn enjoys a prominent roadside location on the A857 towards the northern tip of the Isle of Lewis. " Cross Village is a small community offering local facilities, with Stornoway approximately 35 miles to the south. "The local economy is historically built on traditional businesses such as fishing, farming and Harris Tweed. "But tourism demand across the islands is always at a high level." "The business has undertaken very little marketing activity and currently operates on a successful seasonal basis in the peak April to September season. "There is an excellent opportunity to grow the visibility and trading hours of this popular business to a 12-month calendar. "The published rateable value is £16,000, but the business may qualify for rates relief under the Islands and Remote Areas Hospitality Relief scheme." The auction is being undertaken as the current husband-and-wife team is looking to retire, the listing states. It adds: "They are looking to retire from the business and pass the baton to an enterprising and enthusiastic new team." 7 Bidding for the gastro pub is set to start at £220,000 Credit: RIGHTMOVE 7 The award-winning establishment comprises an established restaurant and bar Credit: RIGHTMOVE
