An advocate has served a legal notice to McDonald's India after he was served non-vegetarian food despite ordering a vegetarian meal on the auspicious day of Shravan Somvar and Ekadashi — days of strict fasting and vegetarianism in Hindu tradition.
The incident took place at the McDonald's outlet at Mumbai Airport's Terminal 1 near Gate No. 9.
In a post on X, Ashutosh J Dubey, Head of BJP Maharashtra Social Media Legal and Advisory Department, claimed he had ordered a Veg Mexican Corn Cheese Burger, Medium Coke, and Cheesy Fries. However, he said he got a Mexican Grill Chicken Cheese Burger, which he consumed unknowingly.
'This is not a simple service error. It is a blatant violation of my religious beliefs, and the staff's response — 'Sorry sir, non-veg hi toh tha' — was deeply insensitive," said Advocate Dubey.
The advocate has invoked provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, including Section 318(2) (Acts intended to outrage religious feelings), and Section 331(2) (Wounding religious sentiments)
Dubey has demanded a formal public apology from McDonald's India, compensation of Rs 5 lakh for mental agony and religious violation and an assurance of religious and dietary sensitivity training for staff.
Failing to receive a response within 7 days, Dubey has stated that he will proceed with criminal and consumer legal action against the fast food giant.
The issue has also gained traction on social media, where Dubey declared a personal boycott of McDonald's India, calling on the company to be held accountable for its disregard of India's cultural and religious diversity.

Memorial to honour Assam Movement martyrs nearing completion: Bora
1 2 3 4 Guwahati: The 'Swahid Smarak Kshetra and Udyan', a memorial dedicated to honour the martyrs of the 1979-1985 Assam agitation against Bangladeshi infiltration, is nearing completion in Guwahati, minister Atul Bora said on Sunday. Speaking to reporters about the ambitious Rs 100-crore project, Bora said, "The first phase of the proposed Swahid Smarak Kshetra has been completed at a cost of Rs 95 crore, with construction of the main statue building now finished.". He added the ground floor of the structure will house statues of 860 martyrs of the Assam Movement, which will be known as the "hall of fame." Bora further said the main statue building will be the sixth tallest in the world, a point of great pride for the state. "Over 800 people lost their lives during the movement and this memorial is our way of paying tribute to their sacrifice." The minister further said the second phase of the project will include the construction of an auditorium, with a seating capacity of 500 people, along with a gallery equipped for a light and sound show that can accommodate up to 1,000 people. Bhopal, July 27 (PTI) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav inspected the under-construction Bhopal Metro on Sunday and expressed hope that the priority corridor from Subhash Nagar to AIIMS will become operational by October this year. He said the test run of the Bhopal metro is underway, and the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) has completed the inspection. 'The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) will soon inspect the metro works. Once the CMRS gives clearance, the priority corridor of the Bhopal Metro will be opened for public transport,' he added. Yadav stated that the Bhopal metro project is being developed at an estimated cost of Rs 6,941.40 crore. The priority corridor from Subhash Nagar to AIIMS is being built at a cost of approximately Rs 2,225 crore and is nearing completion. 'Our target is to start metro operations on this priority corridor by October 2025. The roadmap aims to fully operationalise both corridors- orange and blue lines- before 2030,' he said.
