Terengganu pensioner scammed of RM104,844 by 'Kelly' and 'Lydia'
Kuala Terengganu district police chief Assistant Commissioner Azli Mohd Noor said the 77-year-old man lodged a police report about the non-existent forex investment scam at 4.47pm yesterday
In the report, the victim stated that in late May, he became acquainted with a woman on Facebook who introduced herself as Kelly.
During their acquaintance, Kelly told the victim that her sister had been investing in forex and was making substantial profits.
"On May 28, the victim was contacted by a woman who introduced herself as Lydia and claimed to be Kelly's sister.
"Lydia offered the victim a forex investment opportunity and requested that he provide capital, while she would handle the trading," he said.
Azli added that after seeing significant profits in his forex account, the pensioner attempted to withdraw the money — but Lydia told him that a payment had to be made first.
"She claimed the profits might be linked to money laundering, and that a payment was needed to avoid legal trouble.
"Believing her, the victim made three transactions amounting to RM35,844 to supposedly release his capital and investment profits," he said.
The pensioner realised he had been scammed when further payments were still being requested — despite already investing his entire savings of RM104,844.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code, and advised the public to be more cautious when making any investments to avoid falling victim to fraud or scams.

Indonesian Woman Jailed for Prostitution in Sandakan
KOTA KINABALU: A 50-year-old Indonesian woman was sentenced to three years in prison by the Sandakan Sessions Court on Tuesday for acting as a prostitution agent. Lely Fiter pleaded guilty before Judge Zaini Fisher @ Fisal to charges under Section 372 of the Penal Code, which criminalizes exploiting others for prostitution. Her sentence began on the date of her arrest, and she will be deported after serving her term. Police raided Lely's rented apartment at Taman Mawar Apartment at 3:30 p.m. on July 29 following a tip-off.
