Even amid emotional goodbyes and standing ovations,
Rafael Nadal
couldn't resist sharing a laugh, at his own expense, thanks to
Andy Murray
's perfectly timed banter.
During a press conference at
Roland-Garros
following his farewell ceremony, Nadal opened up about a humorous message he received from Murray after his beloved Real Madrid suffered a painful
Champions League
exit at the hands of Arsenal last month.
"The day that Arsenal beat Real Madrid, when the match just finished, after one second, [Andy] text me a message,' Nadal said with a grin. 'He said, 'Hey Rafa, haven't spoken to you in a while. Just checking in to make sure you are okay.''
At first, Nadal thought the gesture was heartfelt. 'Honestly, [it] takes me like five seconds to realise what I was reading,' he said. 'At the beginning, I said, 'Okay, he's such a nice guy.
He's asking about how I'm doing, family.''
But then it clicked. 'After five seconds, I said, 'This British sense of humour.'' He added with a smirk: 'By the way, I didn't text him back when PSG beat Arsenal.'
A rivalry beyond the court
Nadal, a lifelong Madridista who's even been tipped for a future leadership role at the club, was stung by Real Madrid's 5-1 aggregate loss to Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-finals, a shock result made worse by the fact that Murray, now retired and a proud Gooner, was clearly paying attention.

Fighting back tears, Nadal reflected on his storied rivalries with his fellow tennis greats: 'They represent a very important part of my tennis career. We pushed each other to the limits… That kind of rivalry raised the numbers in tennis to the next level.'
From rivals to friends
Despite years of fierce battles on court, the camaraderie between Nadal and Murray is now more visible than ever. 'You don't know yet, Novak. Probably you know already, Andy.
With Roger, we have talked about it a couple times,' Nadal said, referencing life after retirement.
'All the nerves, pressure, strange feelings when we see each other as rivals, it's completely different when you finish your career.'
Even as he closes one chapter, Nadal clearly hasn't lost his spark, or his sense of humour, even when it comes at the cost of a footballing heartbreak.

India's highest-paid OTT actor earned ₹125 crore for 7 episodes, more than Shah Rukh Khan or Salman Khan's salary
Streaming platforms are undeniably reshaping the definition of stardom. Gone are the days when people thought OTT was for unconventional actors. In fact, this A-list Bollywood actor has broken all boundaries, outshining Bollywood biggies like Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan. Earning a staggering ₹ 125 crore for a single show, he's the highest-paid actor on OTT with a net worth of ₹ 427 crore (approximately $50 million USD), as per multiple reports. Ajay became the highest-paid OTT actor in 2021 when he signed for the Hindi adaptation of the hit British series, Luther, Rudra: Edge of Darkness. Starring as the cop with a dark history, he reportedly charged more than ₹ 100 crore for the seven-episode show. As per a report of Bollywood Hungama, Ajay was paid almost ₹ 18 crore per episode of the show. In total, he took home ₹ 125 crore and became the highest-paid actor in Indian entertainment history. His salary beats big players like Shah Rukh Khan who reportedly charged between ₹ 90 and ₹ 100 crore for his films Raees and Zero. Salman Khan is believed to charge a similar amount for his film, Bharat. Around the same time, Salman reportedly received a payment of approximately ₹ 50 crore for his 2021 film Antim: The Final Truth. He is likely to earn a little more for his film Radhe which was also released in the same year. Jaideep Ahlawat reportedly received ₹ 20 crore as his salary for Patal Lok Season 2. Ajay was last seen in Raid 2. He has several projects in the pipeline, including Son of Sardaar 2, De De Pyaar De 2 and Dhamaal 4. However, all of these will see a theatrical release. The actor is yet to announce his next OTT project.

They've brought this sensational contest to the grandest scales as well, including last year's French Open , Wimbledon in 2022, and sandwiched in between was a shot-making bonanza at the 2022 US Open. If that's not enough, here's more: 22-year-old Alcaraz and 23-year-old Sinner have won the last five majors. The path to the title clash has been contrasting, though. As Alcaraz hopes to retain the Coupe des Mousquetaires for only the third time since Gustavo Kuerten and Nadal, it comes with the knowledge that Sinner has yet to drop a set this fortnight. The World No. 1 has lost just seven matches since the start of 2024, including one this year, but four of them have come against the Spaniard, the most recent one coming in Rome three weeks back. "He's the best tennis player right now," said Alcaraz. "I mean, he's destroying every opponent." Such is the brutality and consistency of Sinner's shot-making that there is a running joke among his peers where they celebrate getting a game off the Italian. Jiri Lehecka, Andrey Rublev, Alexander Bublik and Casper Ruud have been at the receiving end in the last month. Bublik and Rublev needed 27 minutes to win one game against Sinner, Ruud took 47 minutes and Lehecka raised his arms in celebration after 55 minutes. The latest opponent, Djokovic, pushed him the longest: three hours and 16 minutes. Yet, all he could squeeze out of the lanky Italian were 15 games. Alcaraz, meanwhile, has won just two of his six matches in straight sets but had a shorter time on court on Friday after Lorenzo Musetti was forced to retire. There are plenty of things going in the Spaniard's favour, too. He is 21-1 on clay; won titles in Rome and Monte Carlo in the tune-up; has won the past four matches against Sinner to lead the head-to-head 7-4. Contrary to Sinner, Alcaraz is jovial on the court, likes to entertain and didn't hesitate in acknowledging that he's unlikely to make things easy for himself and his fans. His belief is backed by the confidence of not giving up. 'Because I know that I have time and I'm strong mentally enough to come back,' Alcaraz said.
