Rafael Nadal took Andy Murray's text for kindness, until he read between the lines

Even amid emotional goodbyes and standing ovations,
Rafael Nadal
couldn't resist sharing a laugh, at his own expense, thanks to
Andy Murray
's perfectly timed banter.
During a press conference at
Roland-Garros
following his farewell ceremony, Nadal opened up about a humorous message he received from Murray after his beloved Real Madrid suffered a painful
Champions League
exit at the hands of Arsenal last month.
"The day that Arsenal beat Real Madrid, when the match just finished, after one second, [Andy] text me a message,' Nadal said with a grin. 'He said, 'Hey Rafa, haven't spoken to you in a while. Just checking in to make sure you are okay.''
At first, Nadal thought the gesture was heartfelt. 'Honestly, [it] takes me like five seconds to realise what I was reading,' he said. 'At the beginning, I said, 'Okay, he's such a nice guy.
He's asking about how I'm doing, family.''
But then it clicked. 'After five seconds, I said, 'This British sense of humour.'' He added with a smirk: 'By the way, I didn't text him back when PSG beat Arsenal.'
A rivalry beyond the court
Nadal, a lifelong Madridista who's even been tipped for a future leadership role at the club, was stung by Real Madrid's 5-1 aggregate loss to Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-finals, a shock result made worse by the fact that Murray, now retired and a proud Gooner, was clearly paying attention.

Arsenal's 3-0 first-leg win at the Emirates featured two goals from Declan Rice and one from Mikel Merino. They followed that up with a 2-1 win at the Bernabéu, thanks to second-half goals by Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.
Though Arsenal would later fall to PSG in the semifinals, Murray made sure to enjoy the moment, even if Nadal didn't quite return the favour when PSG sent the Gunners packing.
One last dance at Roland-Garros
Murray, along with
Roger Federer
and
Novak Djokovic
, joined Nadal for a moving tribute at Roland-Garros, where the Spaniard was honoured for a legendary career that includes 14
French Open
titles.

Fighting back tears, Nadal reflected on his storied rivalries with his fellow tennis greats: 'They represent a very important part of my tennis career. We pushed each other to the limits… That kind of rivalry raised the numbers in tennis to the next level.'
From rivals to friends
Despite years of fierce battles on court, the camaraderie between Nadal and Murray is now more visible than ever. 'You don't know yet, Novak. Probably you know already, Andy.
With Roger, we have talked about it a couple times,' Nadal said, referencing life after retirement.
'All the nerves, pressure, strange feelings when we see each other as rivals, it's completely different when you finish your career.'
Even as he closes one chapter, Nadal clearly hasn't lost his spark, or his sense of humour, even when it comes at the cost of a footballing heartbreak.

Sonali Bendre recalls visiting Babulnath Temple and Siddhivinayak Temple with Coldplay's Chris Martin and Dakota Johnson: ‘She's such a lovely person'
When British singer Chris Martin of Coldplay visited India earlier this year, it wasn't just his music that stole hearts. Alongside Hollywood actress Dakota Johnson , the duo surprised fans by exploring the spiritual side of Mumbai. They were joined by Bollywood actress Sonali Bendre and 'Swades' star Gayatri Oberoi during their quiet yet meaningful visit to some of the city's most iconic temples. Before Coldplay's big concerts at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on January 18 and 19, Chris and Dakota paid a special visit to the Babulnath Temple. Photos and videos of the couple offering prayers along with Sonali and Gayatri quickly went viral, showing them soaking in the spiritual vibe. Sonali recalls taking Dakota and Chris to Mumbai's famous temples In her interview with ANI, Sonali Bendre fondly remembered the moment she was asked to join the group on their spiritual journey. She said, "She's (Dakota) such a lovely person. It was my yoga teacher who told me that, you know what, somebody is coming in and they want to be taken to a few temples. Will you do this? I'm like, okay, who is it? And that's how I get to know. So I think Chris and her (Dakota) wanted to have a temple experience. And I think that's an experience everybody should have at some point. It was lovely. With her (and Chris), we had visited Babulnath Temple. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like NYC Hotel Smartphone Booking | Bookmark Now! | New York City Hotel Booking | Mill Canyon Road Click Here Undo And then the next day, we visited Siddhivinayak Temple." From their dress to their demeanour, Chris and Dakota were seen fully embracing Indian customs. At the Babulnath Temple, they offered prayers, and the next day, the group went to Siddhivinayak Temple, one of Mumbai's most famous religious spots. Dakota wore traditional attire and was seen chatting happily with Sonali and Gayatri as they walked through the temple grounds. Break-up rumours surround Chris and Dakota While their temple visits showed a peaceful side, Chris and Dakota's relationship has been in the news for other reasons. Reports say they have split. A source told PEOPLE magazine, 'It feels final this time.' Neither Chris nor Dakota's teams have commented on this. Earlier in 2024, it was said that the couple had been engaged for years but were not rushing to marry. When rumours of a breakup started in August 2024, Dakota's representative said they were 'happily together.' A source added, 'Sure, they've had issues and taken breaks in the past, but things are great now. They both love their careers. They are balancing things the best they can.' In June 2024, it was reported they had 'ups and downs, but now they're definitely back on.' So far, Chris and Dakota have not spoken about the recent split rumours. India's highest-paid OTT actor earned ₹125 crore for 7 episodes, more than Shah Rukh Khan or Salman Khan's salary
Streaming platforms are undeniably reshaping the definition of stardom. Gone are the days when people thought OTT was for unconventional actors. In fact, this A-list Bollywood actor has broken all boundaries, outshining Bollywood biggies like Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan. Earning a staggering ₹ 125 crore for a single show, he's the highest-paid actor on OTT with a net worth of ₹ 427 crore (approximately $50 million USD), as per multiple reports. Ajay became the highest-paid OTT actor in 2021 when he signed for the Hindi adaptation of the hit British series, Luther, Rudra: Edge of Darkness. Starring as the cop with a dark history, he reportedly charged more than ₹ 100 crore for the seven-episode show. As per a report of Bollywood Hungama, Ajay was paid almost ₹ 18 crore per episode of the show. In total, he took home ₹ 125 crore and became the highest-paid actor in Indian entertainment history. His salary beats big players like Shah Rukh Khan who reportedly charged between ₹ 90 and ₹ 100 crore for his films Raees and Zero. Salman Khan is believed to charge a similar amount for his film, Bharat. Around the same time, Salman reportedly received a payment of approximately ₹ 50 crore for his 2021 film Antim: The Final Truth. French Open 2025 Final: Jannik Sinner's calm meets Carlos Alcaraz's chaos in 12th chapter of rivalry
Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz (AP Photo) NEW DELHI: Jannik Sinner versus Carlos Alcaraz has been hailed as the next big rivalry in men's tennis, with Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal , and Andy Murray all retired and 38-year-old Novak Djokovic losing his powers. They've brought this sensational contest to the grandest scales as well, including last year's French Open , Wimbledon in 2022, and sandwiched in between was a shot-making bonanza at the 2022 US Open. All of these have come on the path to glory. Round of 16 at 2022 Wimbledon, quarter-final at 2022 US Open and semi-final at Roland Garros last year. On Sunday, when they step up for their 12th match-up overall, it will be with a trophy on the line. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! The matchup has already created a couple of milestones. Sinner became only the second Italian to reach the Roland Garros final since 1976. He is now into his third straight major final, winning the previous two. Defending champion Alcaraz is the fifth-youngest player to reach five Men's Singles Grand Slam finals and has been to the title matches of a major for four straight years now. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Spain's Carlos Alcaraz smiles (AP Photo/Thibault Camus) Maybe, most important of all, it will be the first major final between two men born in the 2000s, just in case anyone needed further affirmation that the new era has begun. If that's not enough, here's more: 22-year-old Alcaraz and 23-year-old Sinner have won the last five majors. The path to the title clash has been contrasting, though. As Alcaraz hopes to retain the Coupe des Mousquetaires for only the third time since Gustavo Kuerten and Nadal, it comes with the knowledge that Sinner has yet to drop a set this fortnight. The World No. 1 has lost just seven matches since the start of 2024, including one this year, but four of them have come against the Spaniard, the most recent one coming in Rome three weeks back. "He's the best tennis player right now," said Alcaraz. "I mean, he's destroying every opponent." Such is the brutality and consistency of Sinner's shot-making that there is a running joke among his peers where they celebrate getting a game off the Italian. Jiri Lehecka, Andrey Rublev, Alexander Bublik and Casper Ruud have been at the receiving end in the last month. Bublik and Rublev needed 27 minutes to win one game against Sinner, Ruud took 47 minutes and Lehecka raised his arms in celebration after 55 minutes. The latest opponent, Djokovic, pushed him the longest: three hours and 16 minutes. Yet, all he could squeeze out of the lanky Italian were 15 games. Alcaraz, meanwhile, has won just two of his six matches in straight sets but had a shorter time on court on Friday after Lorenzo Musetti was forced to retire. There are plenty of things going in the Spaniard's favour, too. He is 21-1 on clay; won titles in Rome and Monte Carlo in the tune-up; has won the past four matches against Sinner to lead the head-to-head 7-4. Contrary to Sinner, Alcaraz is jovial on the court, likes to entertain and didn't hesitate in acknowledging that he's unlikely to make things easy for himself and his fans. His belief is backed by the confidence of not giving up. 'Because I know that I have time and I'm strong mentally enough to come back,' Alcaraz said. He proved just that in last year's French Open final, when he came back from two-sets-to-one-down to beat Alexander Zverev. Sinner and Alcaraz come into the French Open final with a flawless record in major title clashes. That, however, will change on Sunday. "The stage, it doesn't get any bigger now. Grand Slam finals against Carlos, it's a special moment for me and for him, too," said Sinner. "The tension you feel before the match and during the match is a little bit different in a way, because we are both very young, we are both different, but talented." Italy's Jannik Sinner (AP Photo/Aurelien Morissard) Alcaraz acknowledged he'll have to play out of his skin to deny Sinner a maiden French Open title. "I love that battle. But most of the time is just about suffering, because (he pushes) you to the limit," said Carlos. Rivalry comparisons with Nadal-Djokovic-Federer get repeated and rightly so. But the 38-year-old Serb, who has been embroiled in 60 clashes with Nadal and 50 with Federer, thinks it's too early to draw fair comparisons. 'At the moment, that's kind of hard, because they need to play against each for at least 10-plus years nonstop in order to be part of the same discussion,' the 38-year-old Djokovic said Friday, laughing. 'But they're definitely great for tennis, both of them. I think their rivalry is something that our sport needs, no doubt. I'm sure that we're going to see them lifting the big trophies quite often.'
