Midrand's K101 Road construction to finish this year, vows MMC
She said this when tabling the department's 2025/26 budget vote at the Gauteng provincial legislature on July 16.
The construction project was launched by Diale-Tlabela in October 2022.
During the launch, she said communities around Midrand were going to benefit from the multimillion-rand road construction project. 'Upon completion, Road K101 will alleviate traffic on the N1 in Midrand.'

However, since it was launched, motorists have had to deal with traffic congestion, while construction is taking place.
Diale-Tlabela also spoke about the K73 Allandale Road upgrade. She said this road upgrade aims to support the Waterfall economic zone, and alleviate traffic congestion from the Waterfall and Kyalami areas, to and from the N1.
A total of R150m will be set aside for routine road maintenance across the province.

According to the MEC, township spending by G-Fleet Management's fleet maintenance unit rose from 7% to 10% by October 2024, with a target of 30% set for the end of 2025. He said 243 merchants operating outside the Chamdor hub are benefiting from the programme, which focuses on servicing townships, informal settlements, and hostels . The initiative is seen as a practical step towards building township economies by empowering small businesses to participate in government procurement and fleet maintenance.

Pothole debris lingers on 10th Road in Kew as new pothole appears
Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) completed repairs of a series of potholes along 10th Road in Kew on July 11, but residents say the job was left incomplete with heaps of repair debris still lining the road more than two weeks later. Now, to make matters worse, a new pothole has appeared in the exact same spot, less than a month since repairs were done, raising questions about the durability of the original repair. Local resident Thandi Nkosi said they have been waiting for the agency to return and clear the leftover gravel, tar chunks, and broken asphalt. The delay has caused, not only inconvenience, but also potential safety risks for pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles navigating the street. 'We appreciate the initial repairs, but the debris is becoming dangerous. It looks like the job was only half-done. The road is messy, and the new pothole shows that the fix didn't last long. If you swerve to avoid it, you're in the oncoming lane.
