3 trade targets for the Philadelphia 76ers in the upcoming offseason
The main goal for the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2025 offseason is to get healthy. They finished 24-58 in what was a miserable season due to all of the injuries suffered by Joel Embiid, Paul George, Tyrese Maxey, and plenty of others. If the Sixers get those three healthy, they will be back in business.
However, the Sixers could also use some reliable depth. When one looks around the landscape of the NBA Playoffs at the moment, the teams that went deep into the postseason relied on their depth. It wasn't just a Big 3--like in Philadelphia's case--it's been about making sure players off the bench can help.
Therefore, there are a handful of moves the Sixers can make to improve their overall depth as time moves on. Here are three trade targets that make sense for Philadelphia:
Kenrich Williams
2024-25 stats: 6.3 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 1.4 apg, 0.6 spg, 48.3% FG, 38.6% 3FG, 16.4 mpg
Williams will make $7.1 million in 2025-26 and had a team option for the 2026-27 season. He is a reliable player who can knock down an open 3 and gets after it on the defensive end. The Sixers could always use a player of his stature on the roster. He is somebody that does the dirty work off the bench and would be able to give Philadelphia a spark. He shot 40.9% on catch-and-shoot 3s per the NBA's tracking database and that bodes well for a team like the Sixers.
Dalton Knecht
2024-25 stats: 9.1 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 0.8 apg, 0.3 spg, 46.1% FG, 37.6% 3FG, 19.2 mpg
The Lakers already tried trading Knecht at the deadline in an effort to acquire a big man. Maybe the Sixers can swoop in and offer up Andre Drummond as a possibility. The Sixers would then clear some more cap space to re-sign Quentin Grimes while Knecht would come off the bench and knock down some wide-open looks. He was a key contributor on LA's playoff team in 2025 so he has the experience of playing in high pressure situations which would help Philadelphia in this case for the second unit.
Cam Johnson
2024-25 stats: 18.8 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 3.4 apg, 0.9 spg, 47.5% FG, 39% 3FG, 31.6 mpg
Johnson would be a big addition if the Sixers were interested. He is a legitimated 3-point shooter, can make plays for others when he puts the ball on the floor, and his $20 million salary is reasonable for today's market. The Sixers would likely have to send Brooklyn the No. 3 pick, but that isn't a bad thing. Philadelphia would be bringing in a proven player in Johnson while creating more cap space to bring back both Grimes and Guerschon Yabusele in free agency--by moving off the No. 3 pick's salary for the 2025-26 season. Johnson would slide into the starting lineup and be a reliable offensive option.

Knicks stay alive, dismantle Pacers in Game 5 of Eastern Conference finals

Jalen Brunson scored 32 points, Karl-Anthony Towns added 24 points and 13 rebounds despite a bruised left knee and the New York Knicks stayed alive in the Eastern Conference finals by beating the Indiana Pacers 111-94 on Thursday night in Game 5. The Knicks won on their home floor for the first time in the series and prevented the Pacers from earning the second NBA Finals trip in franchise history. Indiana will try again Saturday night at home. Knicks fans chanted "Knicks in 7! Knicks in 7!" in the final minutes as New York extended its first trip to the conference finals since 2000 and kept alive hopes of becoming the 14th team to overcome a 3-1 deficit to win a series. No team has won a conference finals series after dropping the first two games at home. Two nights after giving up 43 points in the first quarter, the Knicks held the Pacers to just 45 in the first half and limited Tyrese Haliburton, who had 32 points, 15 assists and 12 rebounds Tuesday, to just eight points and six assists. Brunson, outplayed by his point guard counterpart Tuesday, rebounded with his franchise-record 21st postseason game of 30 or more points with the Knicks. Bennedict Mathurin scored 23 points off the bench for the Pacers, who had won six straight road games. Indiana shot just 40.5% from the field in by far its lowest-scoring game of the postseason. Brunson scored 14 in the first quarter as the Knicks held a 27-23 lead - giving up 20 fewer points than in the first quarter of Game 4, when they trailed 43-35. Towns, who was questionable to play after hurting his left knee in a collision late in Game 4, picked up the slack with 12 in the second, when Brunson was scoreless. Brunson came back with the Knicks' first eight of the third quarter as they opened a 20-point lead midway through the period. The Pacers cut that in half before New York regained control with a 12-0 burst, highlighted by Brunson's four-point play, to make it 86-64.

Takeaways: Knicks blow out Pacers in Game 5 to stay alive in Eastern Conference Finals

NEW YORK – The vibe inside Madison Square Garden in the hours before Game 5 Thursday night felt far different than it did the previous two games here in this series. The Knicks needed a win to stave off elimination and keep their season alive. The atmosphere was one of nervous anticipation, not quite as raucous or energetic as usual. Advertisement Then the game began and the Knicks got things back to normal. They jumped on the Pacers from the start and never relented on the way to a 111-94 victory to extend the Eastern Conference Finals to a sixth game, which will take place Saturday night back in Indianapolis. The Knicks built a lead that swelled to as many as 22 points – while no lead has been safe in this series, they managed to hold onto a double-digit advantage. Chants of "Knicks in 7" chants rained down on the court in the final minutes. The Knicks are one step closer to making that potential a reality. Here are three takeaways: Knicks' defense much better in Game 5 It was quite a difference from their less-than-stellar showing in Game 4, when they surrendered 43 points just in the first quarter alone. Advertisement The Knicks on Thursday night were much tighter defensively, switching from the early going and communicating more effectively. They forced the Pacers into some bad looks – Indiana shot 33.3 percent from the field (40.5 percent from three, though). When the Knicks defend at a high level, they're a tough team to beat. And if they're going to pull off the comeback in this series, this is how they need to defend. Beating the Pacers in a high-scoring game is far too difficult. Jalen Brunson's Mr. Clutch for a reason May 29, 2025; New York, New York, USA; New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson (11) shoots against Indiana Pacers forward Pascal Siakam (43) and forward Jarace Walker (5) in the second quarter during game five of the eastern conference finals for the 2025 NBA Playoffs at Madison Square Garden. Mandatory Credit: Brad Penner-Imagn Images The Knicks needed a big performance from Brunson and he delivered. To say the least. Brunson rose to the occasion, finishing with 32 points on 12-of-18 shooting (4-of-7 from three-point range) with five rebounds and five assists. Advertisement The star guard made the Knicks' first three baskets of the game and had 13 points in the first half, which ended with the Knicks leading by four. Brunson hasn't always been at his best in this series, but he certainly was in Game 5. Tough game for Tyrese Haliburton The Pacers star guard was dominant in Game 4, finishing with 32 points, 12 rebounds and 15 assists. Game 5 was a different story. Haliburton had just eight points on 2-of-7 shooting (0-of-2 from deep) with two rebounds and six assists. Haliburton never got into any kind of rhythm and the Pacers suffered because of it. Phillies split doubleheader with Braves without Bryce Harper, but Philadelphia picks up another series win

Chris Sale became the fastest pitcher to reach 2,500 strikeouts, pitched six scoreless innings and the Atlanta Braves beat the Philadelphia Phillies 9-3 on Thursday night to split a doubleheader. The Phillies won the afternoon game 5-4. Sale (3-3) struck out Edmundo Sosa in the sixth inning for his eighth strikeout, to reach the milestone. He did it in 2,026 innings, surpassing the record of 2,107 2/3 set by Randy Johnson. Sale became the 40th pitcher in major league history to reach 2.500 strikeouts and joined Clayton Kershaw, Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer as the only active pitchers to have reached that plateau. Sosa was the last hitter Sale faced. He allowed just two hits in six shutout innings. Austin Riley had a double, a homer, and four RBIs, Ozzie Albies homered and drove in three, and Luke Williams had a pair of RBIs for the Braves, who snapped a three-game losing skid. Zack Wheeler (6-2) allowed six runs in 5 1/3 innings for the Phillies, who lost for just the second time in their last 13 games. After the game, the Phillies acquired left-hander Josh Walker from Toronto for cash considerations. Walker goes on the Phillies' 40-man roster, but will be assigned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Key moment Sale loaded the bases in the fifth inning on two walks and a hit batter, but got out of it by getting Alec Bohm to ground out to Williams to end the threat. Key stat Albies' homer, his sixth of the season, extended his hitting streak to 14 games. Up next RHP Grant Holmes (3-3, 3.68 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Braves when they open a three-game series at home against Boston on Friday. Philadelphia will turn to RHP Taijuan Walker (2-3, 2.97) in the first game of a weekend home series against Milwaukee. RHP Quinn Priester (1-2, 4.23) is slated to start for the Brewers.
