Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker reaffirms HR&CE's control over temples in the state
Referring to the resolution passed at the recently held Lord Murugan conference, which demanded HR&CE department to hand over administration of all temples to an independent board, he said, 'Even after gaining independence, there existed a deplorable situation in Hindu temples, where people other than the 10% upper caste Hindus were not allowed entry. That is why the government has intervened and formed the HR&CE department and declared that everyone is equal, ensuring that all people could walk on temple streets and enter temples.'
Mr. Appavu added that because of this inclusive approach, the HR&CE department is now being successfully run by the government for the self respect of the remaining 90% Hindus.
He criticised those who believe the HR&CE department could be evicted from the temple administration and handed over to the 10% of the upper caste Hindus, as was the situation in the past. 'That will never happen in Tamil Nadu,' he asserted.
He further remarked, 'They (the BJP government) have completed 10 years of their tenure and during that time, they have already privatised harbours, airports and airlines across the country.' Now they are daydreaming about privatising the ancient and historically rich temples under the HR&CE department, he added.
Mr. Appavu asserted that the people of Tamil Nadu will never accept such a move, nor will they accept anyone who comes with such ideology.
He also expressed his disappointment that, at the very least a resolution was not passed to mandate that pujas in all Lord Murugan temples be performed in Tamil, given that Lord Murugan is considered a Tamil deity. 'But they will never accept Tamil,' remarked Mr. Appavu.

CM Yogi launches UP's first integrated township in Meerut
Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday flayed the Congress and the Samajwadi Party (SP) for protecting criminal networks as he specifically referred to the 2008 Malegaon blast case. The CM said the Congress falsely implicated Hindus in the Malegaon blast case as he demanded an apology for what he called their 'anti-India and anti-Sanatan' actions. UP CM Yogi Adityanath dedicated ₹ 2,570 crore integrated township in Meerut to former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee. (Sourced) 'Congress never acted on terrorist incidents. In the Malegaon case, it shamelessly pursued a false agenda against Hindus. When will they apologise to the nation for their sins,' he said, citing the recent acquittal of all accused in the case as proof of 'Satyamev Jayate' (truth prevails). The CM was speaking during the foundation laying ceremony of Uttar Pradesh's first integrated township in Meerut's Mohiuddinpur. Yogi said the Congress and the SP divided the society along the caste lines, incited riots and shielded criminal markets like Sotiganj, a former hub for stolen vehicle parts in Meerut. 'Freedom fighters didn't sacrifice their lives for us to be divided by caste and caught in riots. Sotiganj was the identity of the Congress and the SP; our identity is development,' he said. Yogi further said now Meerut has a new identity in the form of the Meerut expressway, rapid rail and the state's first sports university. On the occasion, the CM dedicated the ₹2,570 crore, 295-hectare integrated township to former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, emphasising its potential to generate employment, attract industries and include schools, a medical college and consolidated divisional offices. 'This township will redefine Meerut with residential, industrial and commercial zones, offering affordable housing for NCR residents and connectivity via the rapid rail corridor,' he said. Yogi also highlighted plans to enhance tourism at Bhola Ki Jhaal, a water body in Meerut, and redevelop the Circuit House. The CM praised PM Narendra Modi's vision for promoting indigenous goods, urging citizens to avoid foreign products that could fund terrorism. 'Your money should not end up in the hands of terrorists. This is new India and new Uttar Pradesh — no place for mafia or crime,' he said. Yogi also announced progress on India's largest expressway from Meerut to Prayagraj, set to reduce travel time to Lucknow to six hours and revealed plans for a new expressway to Haridwar and approval for Meerut's inner road projects. Targeting the opposition further, he likened those dividing society on caste lines to 'termites' and criticised their hypocrisy. 'They send their children abroad but feel pain when the poor get better facilities. They want you to travel by bullock cart,' the CM said.

Demonstration against arrest of Christian nuns in Chhattisgarh
Condemning the recent arrest of two Roman Catholic nuns in Chhattisgarh, the Tamil Nadu Minorities Welfare Committee staged a demonstration here on Monday. The protestors said the nuns, while taking three children to Agra with their parents' consent, were assaulted by Bajrand Dal members, who also filed a complaint with Narayanpur police that the children were being kidnapped for religious conversion. Without verifying the fact, the police remanded them in judicial custody. On its part, the judiciary, while hearing their bail pleas, rejected it and directed the NIA to take up investigation even though the children were going along with the nuns with the knowledge of their parents. After steps taken by MPs of various political parties other than the BJP, they were enlarged on bail. 'Since the BJP and the Hindu outfits across the country are spreading religious hatred, the minorities are living in fear after frequent attacks on them and their properties and, hence, those who believe in communal harmony should join hands against these evil forces,' the protestors said.

Congress Shielded Terrorists, Framed Innocent Hindus In Malegaon Blast Case: CM Yogi
Last Updated: The Chief Minister Yogi said that the politics of Congress and SP has long been centered on casteism, communal riots, and appeasement of mafias Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched a sharp attack on opposition parties over the Malegaon blast case and accused Congress and Samajwadi Party of falsely implicating innocent Hindus, while shielding actual terrorists. 'Today, these very parties are questioning the credibility of the country's constitutional institutions," he said, adding, 'Will Congress ever apologise to the nation for its misdeeds?" His remarks came during the foundation stone laying ceremony of a Rs 2,517 crore Integrated Township project under the Chief Minister Urban Expansion/New City Promotion Scheme in Meerut. A special court in Mumbai on July 31 acquitted the seven accused, including former BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur, in the terror case for want of reliable evidence. The Chief Minister Yogi said that the politics of Congress and SP has long been centered on casteism, communal riots, and appeasement of mafias. Highlighting the transformation of Meerut, Adityanath noted that the city once known for its 'Chor Bazar' areas like Sotiganj is now gaining international recognition for its sports goods industry, thanks to initiatives like Rapid Rail, the 12-lane expressway, and the One District One Product (ODOP) scheme. He announced that the country's first sports university, named after Major Dhyan Chand, is coming up in Meerut. He also stated that the country's largest expressway connecting Meerut to Prayagraj will be completed by year-end, reducing travel time to Lucknow to just six hours. Further, development projects like the reconstruction of the Inner Ring Road and a new Circuit House were also announced. Reaffirming Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a self-reliant India and promoting the 'Vocal for Local' campaign, CM Yogi urged people to prefer indigenous products over foreign goods to stop national wealth from flowing into anti-national activities. In a major gesture on the occasion of Rakshabandhan, CM Yogi announced free travel for women in Uttar Pradesh State Transport Corporation and city buses on August 8, 9, and 10. The Chief Minister credited the government's zero-tolerance policy for ridding Meerut of riots and crime and putting it firmly on the path of development. 'Eight years ago, Meerut was burning in the flames of communal violence. Today, it is surging ahead with infrastructure like the Rapid Rail and Expressways," he said. He also announced the commencement of survey work for the Meerut–Haridwar expressway and the integration of divisional offices under one roof as key developmental initiatives. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
