Strengthen integrity to boost public trust, Hajiji tells govt depts and GLCs
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has called upon all departments and government-linked companies (GLCs) to reinforce integrity and enhance trust in public institutions.
He made the call Thursday (May 15) after Sawit Kinabalu introduced the Organisational Anti-Corruption Plan (OACP) 2025-2029, a strategic initiative aimed at strengthening integrity and good governance at all levels of the organisation.
In welcoming the move, he said the OACP is an initiative to create an efficient, credible and corruption-free administration.
'I encourage all departments and GLCs to emulate this approach in reinforcing integrity and enhancing public trust in government institutions,' said Hajiji, who is also Sawit Kinabalu chairman.
He said the implementation of the OACP should not just be to fulfil policy requirements, but become a norm in the work culture of GLCs and government agencies.
Earlier, Sawit Kinabalu Group managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Victor Ationg presented the OACP to Hajiji at his office at Menara Kinabalu here.
Accompanying Victor during the courtesy visit to the Chief Minister was the group's Integrity and Governance Division team.

Hajiji: Sabah government approves 40,000 acres to legalise long-standing village settlements
SANDAKAN, Aug 16 — The state government is paying close attention to the plight of residents who have long settled in villages that have yet to be officially gazetted, including those located within forest reserves, to ensure they can remain on the land legally. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor said this was the reason behind recent efforts to gazette long-standing settlements, as demonstrated through the approval of approximately 40,000 acres of land for this purpose. He said the land, covering areas in Sipitang, Tenom and several other districts, is now officially recognised as village land, a clear reflection of the government's commitment to resolving long-standing issues faced by rural communities. 'We want to assure our people that they have a legal place to call home, no longer labelled as squatters, but recognised residents of established villages,' said Hajiji. 'During the recent State Legislative Assembly sitting, we approved the release of 40,000 acres from forest reserves and state land to be converted into legal village areas. This is the approach taken by the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government, one that genuinely cares for the people, their settlements and their future, especially those in need.' Hajiji was speaking at the Land Allocation Ceremony for the Gazettement of Kampung Karamunting Baharu, held at the open hall of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Karamunting on Friday. During the event, he witnessed the official handover of a plot of land under the Sandakan Municipal Council (MPS), which will be gazetted as Native Reserve Land for the village. Also present were state Minister of Community Development and People's Well-being, Datuk James Ratib; Karamunting assemblyman, Datuk George Hiew; Kuamut assemblyman, Datuk Masiung Banah; Telupid assemblyman, Datuk Jonnybone Kurum; nominated assemblyman, Datuk Jaffari Waliam; Senator Anna Bell @ Suzieana Perian, and MPS president Walter Kenson. Hajiji described the occasion as a historic moment for the residents of Kampung Karamunting Baharu, not merely the handover of land, but more importantly, the official recognition of their right to live on land they have occupied for more than 30 years. In acknowledging efforts by Karamunting assemblyman Datuk George Hiew, Hajiji expressed appreciation for George's persistent advocacy in ensuring the gazettement of Kampung Karamunting Baharu. 'Datuk George met me several times, not only to raise concerns about Kampung Karamunting Baharu but also other issues in his constituency. He has never grown tired of bringing up the people's needs,' said Hajiji. 'Earlier, he mentioned solar light installations in various villages, proof that he's working hard. I sincerely hope that in the coming election, the people will once again place their trust in him. If our elected representative is dedicated, why replace him with someone untested? 'I appreciate George's support for the government. Let's not be distracted by what the opposition says whether it's about frogs or anything else what matters most is that we serve the people,' he said. Separately, Hajiji reminded local authorities across the state to improve their service delivery, especially in simplifying public dealings such as business license applications. He lauded the initiative by the Sandakan Municipal Council, led by Walter, in shortening the business licensing process from weeks to just a single day. 'If a process can be simplified, don't make it harder for the people, especially those in the villages. We must cultivate empathy. If something can be made easier, make it easier, don't complicate it further. That's not the kind of attitude we should encourage. 'Do your best to assist our people. He said the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government had laid out a clear development roadmap for the state, including Kinabatangan, through the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) direction. The plan covers all aspects of growth, from strengthening the economy and education to improving community wellbeing, supported by achievements in industry, tourism and agriculture. Hajiji highlighted various state initiatives, including monthly aid of RM300 for a year to more than 10,000 low-income residents, and an increase in Rumah Mesra SMJ units to 40 for each state constituency, including Lamag and Sukau. He said the state government has also distributed 100 dialysis machines to government hospitals and clinics to provide free treatment for kidney patients. On the Seri Milian New Town project in Kota Kinabatangan, Hajiji said it would be a catalyst for change expected to transform the district over the next five to 10 years. Sabah assembly to be dissolved in mid-Sept?
KOTA KINABALU: With less than three months remaining before the automatic dissolution of the current five-year term of the Sabah assembly, political circles are anticipating that Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor will call for elections by mid-September. Talk among the ruling Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) political circles is the possibility of Hajiji calling for the election on the second week of September or immediately after Malaysia Day on Sept 16. They anticipate the dissolution could happen after the main Malaysia Agreement 1963 Action and Implementation Council meeting chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim that is scheduled for Sept 12 in Kuala Lumpur. Sabah hopes to see positive progress in negotiations regarding the 40% federal revenue returns to the state. The state has worked out an interim 40% share formula for federal tax revenues returns as a temporary measure to be discussed at the meeting that will be attended by Hajiji and Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. Any positive outcomes during the meetings especially on the issue of Sabah's 40% claim would bolster electoral mood in favour of the ruling state government under GRS and Sabah Pakatan Harapan. "We have to see the meeting outcome. If it is positive, it will be good for both GRS and Pakatan who are now working on an electoral pact," a GRS leader, who declined to be named, said. Some political chatter does not discount the possibility of a dissolution in early September just after the Aug 31 National Day celebrations. The 16th Sabah Legislative Assembly automatically dissolves on Nov 11 to pave way for the 17th state election that should be held within 60 days of dissolution. Sabah Umno election director Jeffrey Nor Mohamed said that he believes GRS and Hajiji are waiting for the current issues, including the tragic death of Zara Qairina Mahathir and the ongoing corruption issues linked to the videos, to subside. "It is possible they will go for dissolution in the second week of September and probably an election in October," said Jeffrey, whose Sabah chapter of Barisan-Umno is against working with GRS, which is also part of the federal unity government. Opposition Parti Warisan information chief Datuk Azis Jamman said that Warisan is already in election mode, actively engaging in all 73 state seats. "As far as we are concerned, its already election mode with less than three months to dissolution. It is up to Hajiji to decide the dissolution," he said.
