Fans have long speculated about a possible onscreen reunion, but Pitt recently joked about Cruise's signature death-defying stunts. 'I'm not gonna hang my ass off airplanes," Pitt quipped in an interview with E! News, teasing he'd only consider a film with Cruise 'when he does something again that's on the ground."
Still, Pitt acknowledges the support from Cruise, particularly since their time filming Interview With the Vampire in the '90s. Reminiscing about their go-kart races on set, Pitt laughed, 'He got me in the end, I gotta admit." Cruise, too, returned the compliment, calling Pitt a natural driver: 'Believe me, I've raced against him. He's very good."
Both actors are now leading major summer blockbusters. Cruise returned as Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, which broke franchise records with a $200 million global opening and is continuing strong with $540 million in earnings. Meanwhile, Pitt stars in F1, directed by Top Gun: Maverick's Joseph Kosinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer—who also produced Mission: Impossible.
Interestingly, Kosinski had once tried to reunite Cruise and Pitt in his version of Ford v Ferrari, where both actors would've done their own driving stunts. The project never materialized, and James Mangold eventually directed the film with Christian Bale and Matt Damon. Now, Pitt gets his moment behind the wheel in F1, a film that Cruise himself has praised.
