I tested the royal mattress that's fit for King Charles – here's my thoughts & expert tips to keep cool on summer nights

The Sun09-07-2025
KING Charles is hardly going to sleep on an IKEA mattress - and luckily, I was able to experience a truly regal sleep experience that's fit for the royals.
The Sleepeezee Regency Kennington 4200 Pocket Sprung Mattress holds the prestigious Royal Warrant of HM King Charles III, a mark of quality and excellence.
And thankfully, I managed to get my hands on the posh mattress - which certainly doesn't come cheap.
The pricey buy, which will set shoppers back an eye-watering £1,199 for a Single, £1,499 for a Double, £1,699 for a King and just under £2,000 for a Super King, is sure to burn a hole in your wallet, but is it worth it?
Would it be magic or a money pit? Here, I put it to the test.
After hearing that this Sleepeezee mattress, which has carried the Royal Warrant of HM King Charles III for over 60 years, is made with 'naturally breathable and cooling bamboo and certified British wool,' to ensure exquisite comfort, I knew I had to give it a try.
So forget counting sheep or scrolling through YouTube desperate for relaxing ASMR videos when you next can't sleep - you'll have to count your money if you dream of having one of these mattresses in your home.
As someone who exercises (or at least, tries to) several times a week while working full-time, I need a mattress that will let me sleep easily.
And to add a slipped disc and chronic back pain to the mix, could this mattress give me the restorative sleep I needed to tackle everything?
Here, I share my honest thoughts on the Sleepeezee, as I reveal whether it's worth the splurge.
While the mattress world is a minefield of options - this buy, which you can buy from Dreams store, has been a hit online so far, with numerous five star reviews and an average rating of 4.8 out of five.
Comments describe it as 'so comfortable' and it is said to provide 'wonderful sleep,' but would it really offer Buckingham Palace -quality rest every evening?
One in four Brits say they prefer a firm mattress to sleeping on a firmer one
First impressions
First things first, this mattress is HEAVY.
Thankfully, I had it delivered by pros, but it's worth noting it would definitely be a challenge to move by yourself.
However, once it was on my bed, things were super smooth-sailing.
The mattress has 2,306 pocket springs and is said to be 'medium comfort grade for all-round support.'
As well as layers of ultra-supportive mini springs, it also has a sumptuous pillow top.
And that's not all, as it's also got antibacterial bamboo woven through the plush pillow top surface, ensuring your mattress stays fresh.
So...does it deliver?
And for those looking for an out of this world sleep, this mattress could be just the thing for you.
It's a great mattress and albeit expensive, if you ask me, it's well worth the investment.
Not only have I woken up feeling well rested this last fortnight, but I'd even go as far to say I've actually had the best two weeks of sleep I've had in a very long time.
Rather than spending hours of an evening chilling on the sofa, I can't wait to get into bed
Abby Wilson
It's genuinely one of the most comfortable mattresses I have ever slept on and I don't think I've ever slept so deeply and fallen asleep so quickly (the latter being something I often struggle to do).
Now, rather than spending hours of an evening chilling on the sofa, I can't wait to get into bed.
It really is like sleeping in a cloud and as well as being incredibly comfy, it moulds to the body, meaning I can catch Zs in any position.
And thanks to the wool and bamboo in this mattress, it is said to work to regulate your temperature throughout the night.
Benefits of the Sleepeezee Regency mattresses
SO, why is this mattress better than the best?
Hannah Hayden, a Junior Buyer at Dreams, has revealed why the Sleepeezee Regency mattresses are ones you won't want to miss.
Hannah tells Fabulous: 'Each mattress in the Sleepeezee Regency range is handcrafted in Kent and features the timeless support of individually encased pocket springs, with options ranging from 1,600 springs in the Kenilworth mattress, 2,800 in the Kew mattress, to 4,200 in the Kennington mattress.
'These are paired with layers of naturally breathable bamboo and certified British wool, working together to regulate your temperature throughout the night.
'That makes a big difference in helping you stay cool, calm, and comfortable instead of tossing and turning – especially during this hot weather.
'Each mattress is infused with antibacterial bamboo, adding an extra layer of softness while also helping to keep the mattress fresher for longer.
'It's especially useful for allergy-prone sleepers who need a clean, healthy sleep environment.
'With a layer of adaptive pocket springs, these mattresses provide targeted support exactly where you need it while minimising movement transfer, so you're less likely to be disturbed by a restless partner.
'For extra peace of mind, every mattress in the Regency range comes with a 10-year manufacturer's guarantee, a 100-night Comfort Guarantee, and the prestigious Royal Warrant of HM King Charles III, a true mark of exceptional British craftsmanship and quality.'
I can't say that I haven't had sweaty nights in this past fornight, but then again, the temperatures in the UK have been quite wild recently.
Overall, yes this nine-layer mattress is expensive, but you can't expect top notch quality at bargain prices, right?
Experts advise that mattresses should be replaced every eight years, so although forking out for this is sure to make anyone's bank account wince, if you're feeling lost in a sea of memory foam, springs and hybrids, I'm sure you'll sleep easy once this lavish buy is in your bedroom.
So if you've been tossing and turning on the same mattress for over a decade and have noticed it's got more lumps than a badly stirred gravy, it may just be the time to upgrade.
My rating: 5/5

Keep yourself cool when you sleep this summer
And if you're keen to know more about ways to stay cool this summer, we've got you covered.
Not only does this mattress work to help you feel cool, but Sammy Margo, a Dreams Sleep Expert and a Chartered Physiotherapist for 32 years, here shares her top eight tips to battle the heat during summer nights.
Hang a wet sheet in front of your window
If you find yourself tossing and turning at night as the temperature rises, Sammy reveals why a damp sheet could be your saviour.
The sleep pro explains: 'Dampen a sheet with cold water and hang it in front of your open window.
'The breeze will blow through the sheet and cool down your room.'
Put your beauty bits in the fridge
Secondly, Sammy reveals why keeping your beauty products in a make-up bag is a big mistake.
She says: 'If you use beauty products such as facial sprays, toners, or moisturisers, consider storing them in the fridge.
'Applying chilled products to your skin can help soothe and refresh you, especially on hot and sticky nights. Plus, it can feel like a mini spa treatment before bed.'
The best sleep routine and environment
Thomas Høegh Reisenhus, TEMPUR® sleep specialist & sleep counsellor, reveals the key components of a good bedtime routine and environment...
A sure-fire way to facilitate a better night's sleep is to practice good sleep hygiene.
Establish a sleep routine that works for you and stick to it.
This will help your body establish a consistent, natural sleep-wake cycle which can do wonders for your overall sleep quality.
As such, try to avoid making up for lost sleep with a lie-in.
Instead of sleeping in, spend your morning reading a book in bed or having a leisurely coffee in the kitchen.
Ensure that your bedroom, bedding, and sleepwear are fit for purpose too.
The ideal sleep environment is dark, quiet, and cool – much like a cave.
If you find unwelcome sources of light are keeping you up, consider investing in an eye mask or black-out curtains.
Adding soft furnishings can be a great way to reduce noise, with the surfaces having an absorptive quality, but if this doesn't work, consider embracing a soothing soundtrack to block it out.
In terms of temperature, try to keep your bedroom at 18°C. You can further reduce the risk of waking up due to overheating by ensuring that all your bedding and sleepwear is made with natural, breathable materials such as cotton and linen.
Bear in mind that everyone is different; what might work for most, may not work for you!
Whilst knowing how much sleep you should get, how to overcome common barriers, and practicing good sleep hygiene can facilitate a great night's sleep, if you continue to struggle with sleep or fatigue persistently, do not hesitate to visit a doctor or health professional for support.
Try a cold-water bottle
Additionally, Sammy shares the hot water bottle hack you'll need to try, as she advises: 'Fill a hot water bottle with cold water and put it in the freezer for a few hours before bed.
'Then, place it at your feet or other cool parts of your body to help you fall asleep.'
Keep a spoon nearby
Not only this, but you'll want to keep a spoon by your bed if you're desperate for a good night's sleep, as Sammy recommends: 'Consider keeping a cold metal object, such as a spoon or a pan, within reach on your bedside table.
'Using this object to cool down specific areas of your body, such as your wrists or neck, before bed can help you feel more comfortable and refreshed.
'Plus, having it nearby means you can easily grab it during the night if you need a quick cool-down.'
Freeze your sheets
As well as hanging a wet sheet in front of your window, you'll need to keep the bedding on your bed chilly too, as Sammy says: 'Put your sheets and pillowcases in a plastic bag and stick them in the freezer for a few hours before bed.
'This can create a cool and refreshing sleeping surface.'
Use cooling bedding
Not only this, but if you're really struggling with the heat, you may also want to consider investing in cooling bedding.
Sammy shares: 'Look for bedding made with breathable materials, such as bamboo or cotton, that can help regulate body temperature.
'Additionally, there are special cooling bedding products, such as the TheraPur Cool Mattress Protector, TheraPur ActiGel® Glacier 1800 Combination Mattress and TheraPur Cool Fibre Pillow Pair - just to name a few - that are designed to stay cool and promote a comfortable sleep environment.'
Make a DIY air conditioner
But if you're looking for a more affordable alternative, why not make your own DIY air conditioner?
Sammy shares her tried-and-tested trick, as she explains: 'Fill a shallow bowl with ice and place it in front of a fan.
'The air blowing over the ice will create a cool breeze that can help lower the temperature in your room.'
Sleep solo
And if you thought that was it, think again, as Sammy concludes: 'If you usually share a bed, consider sleeping alone during a heatwave.
'This can help prevent body heat from building up and making you even hotter.'

The historic English manor that's launched a new Italian-like wine terrace in time for summer

Relaxing among the backdrop of an 18th century manor house, there are frankly few better ways to spend an evening SPA-TACULAR The historic English manor that's launched a new Italian-like wine terrace in time for summer I FEEL like I'm in a quaint Italian town as I sit listening to live guitar while enjoying a glass of wine in a beautiful ivy-walled courtyard. Yet I'm nowhere near Italy. I'm in the heart of Kent, visiting an historic health spa during its landmark 100th anniversary year. From its quirky beginnings as the nation's first 'health farm', pioneering hydrotherapy in the '50s, to introducing Ayurvedic therapies in the '70s, and launching Britain's first wellness bootcamps in the '90s, the brand has always been ahead of the curve in wellness trends. This year, it is marking the milestone with a year-long 100 Years Young campaign. Think exclusive treatments and great products you won't find elsewhere. Advertisement Eastwell Manor, near Ashford, has undergone extensive renovations, including a total spa refresh, and I marvel at the view via a new summer terrace, while tucking into local Gusbourne Vineyard rosé. The wine is the only UK entry to make the top 50 in the 2025 World's Best Vineyards Awards. A variety of amazing small plates, including a delicious whipped feta and flatbreads, are the perfect accompaniment. Of course, you could go bigger, with pizzas, burgers and sandwiches on offer (the sea pizza being a feast of garlic chili prawns, salmon and pickles). Advertisement Relaxing among the backdrop of an 18th century manor house, there are frankly few better ways to spend an evening. The next day I was transported from Italy to France, with a beautifully laid out picnic on the manor grounds. Go on a virtual tour of the Champneys hotel - the perfect Mother's Day retreat Hopping into one of the hotel Range Rovers, I am assured by the driver that the walk would be far too difficult to do myself. Taking an entire three minutes, I feel slightly put out until I spot the size of the hamper being hauled from the boot with a bucket of champagne. Perhaps my driver was right after all. Advertisement My only company is an errant bee as he leaves me to enjoy a feast of fresh pastries and sandwiches. With more than enough to feed two people, I should have asked him to join me. Back at the spa, there are more centenary celebrations to delight, including two exclusive treatments. My Champneys 100 Years Facial (£105) begins with a meditation, followed by a triple cleanse, exfoliation and anti-ageing cryotherapy globes. Advertisement Back at the spa, there's more centenary celebrations to delight, including two exclusive treatments. For more ingulgence, you could opt for The 100 Years Face & Body Reset (£150) with a massage, wood therapy, and lemon tea to finish. Along with the standard indoor swimming pool, with sauna, steam rooms and hot tub, there's a newly revamped outdoor pool, with cream-covered plush sunloungers and beautiful sunset views. Tucked next door are the Mews Cottages, with my room hidden behind a baby pink door. Inside, a comfy double bed and lounge look out over lush grounds, and I make the most of the roll-top bath and Elemis toiletries. Advertisement Complete with my leftover hamper strawberries. Not bad for a spa that's been doing this for 100 years. They've clearly learned a thing or two about la dolce vita. The clip kicked off with Ferne drinking a zesty juice shot in her pyjamas to get her day started with a burst of energy, before breaking into a cheeky dance in her kitchen. Next up, she raided her fridge to whip up what appeared to be a strawberry protein shake, keeping things fresh and fruity. For lunch, the former TOWIE star fried up some juicy harissa prawns and chickpeas before assembling a vibrant salad bowl packed with lettuce, red onion, avocado, fruit and crumbled feta – all topped off with a generous squeeze of lemon. Switching up her look, Ferne slipped into a skimpy red activewear set that showed off her washboard abs as she tucked into her colourful lunch. 'What I've been doing is focusing 80% on my nutrition with my simple nutrition plan. '20% exercise from working out 2-3 times per week and 100% support and motivation from my smaller accountability coaching groups. 'These accountability groups have been a game changer for me and we are seeing the most insane results across the board.

James Middleton shares rare video of 'cheeky' son Inigo as toddler plays with family dogs and hikes with his mother on sun-soaked holiday

James Middleton has shared a touching message for his 'adventurous' and 'cheeky' son ahead of the toddler's second birthday in October. The brother of the Princess of Wales posted a heartwarming video of Inigo wandering through the countryside with his mother, Alizée Thevenet, and their dogs. The tot was seen throwing sticks into a small creek and even trying to push his mother into the water at one point. In the short clip, Inigo donned a khaki green dungarees romper, a blue T shirt and a sun hat to cover his face from the summer sunshine. Reflecting on Inigo's forthcoming birthday, James, 37, took to Instagram to post the candid clip alongside a heartfelt message celebrating the joy his son has brought into their lives. James wrote in his caption: 'My adventurous (and cheeky) little boy how are you nearly two already. 'Everyone says it goes fast…but I didn't realise it would be this fast'. The businessman and mental health advocate, who is known for his love of the outdoors and his close bond with his dogs, rarely shares intimate glimpses of family life. However, the sweet video offered his followers a unique look into the wholesome adventures that the family enjoy. James' followers rushed to the comments section to share their best wishes for Inigo - with one noting he would have a blast with his cousin, the Prince and Princess of Wales' youngest son, Prince Louis. One person wrote: 'I can imagine him and Prince Louis having a very fun mischievous time!' Another said: 'So precious. Thank you for sharing such a sweet clip of your darling family.' Someone else wrote: 'Gosh, he really is getting so big. AND he gets around so very well.' A fourth added: 'I love his spirit and adventurous nature.' James and Alizée, who tied the knot in a romantic ceremony in the South of France in 2021, welcomed Inigo in October 2023. Since then, James has occasionally posted glimpses of their rural life together, often surrounded by dogs, fields, and fresh air. James, who founded dog food company Ella & Co and has been open about his past struggles with depression, has previously credited nature, animals, and now fatherhood with transforming his mental health. In April, James shared another sweet glimpse into family life with his son Inigo and wife Alizée to celebrate his own birthday. Posted a sweet home video to his Instagram account, James filmed his 18-month-old happily eating breakfast outside with two of their dogs sat on the bench nearby. A very cheery Inigo then took to the seat of a red tractor, while Alizée watched on with the family's dogs. Wearing a personalised gilet, reading James&Ella - the name of James's dog food company - Inigo threw some feed to the family's chickens. Sharing the rare glimpse into family life, James reflected that there was 'no better birthday present' than spending time with his family. He wrote in his caption: 'Thank you, 38. I'm right where I'm meant to be. There is no better birthday present than that ❤️ 'Fresh air, wagging tails, and the wild, beautiful rhythm of family life. 'Moving in sync, tails wagging. On a journey, with Inigo at the wheel, headed wherever life takes us. 'Filled with joy, love and just the right amount of chaos.' James has frequently shared his love of dogs, and currently owns six: Zulu, Inka, Luna, Mabel, Nala and Isla. James is a breeder of cocker spaniels, and even gifted Kate and William his beloved black spaniel Orla in 2020, who has since appeared in several posts shared by the family - including Kate's cancer recovery video last year. He wrote a book about his beloved pup Ella, who passed away in 2023, and recently released a book called Meet Ella: The Dog Who Saved My Life, which has been described as a 'love letter to man's best friend'. Last month, James shared an adorable tribute to his wife Alizee to celebrate Mother's Day. Kate's younger brother shared a gorgeous snap of Alizee and their son Inigo, one, to Instagram on Sunday. Alizee looked as glamorous as ever in a red knitted jumper as she stood enjoying the English countryside sunshine. She was holding Inigo, whom they welcomed in September 2023, who wore a knitted jumper with embroidered tractors as he faced away from the camera. James sweetly captioned the photo, writing: 'Happy Mothers to all the amazing Mothers but an extra bit of love for this one.' His sister Kate has also shared a photo to mark Mother's Day, as she shared a powerful video about healing in nature.
