Musk says he regrets some X posts he made about Trump
Social Sharing
Billionaire businessman Elon Musk said on Wednesday he regretted some of the posts he made last week about U.S. President Donald Trump as they had gone "too far."
Trump said on Saturday his relationship with Musk was over after they exchanged insults on social media, with the Tesla and SpaceX CEO describing the president's sweeping tax and spending bill as a "disgusting abomination."
Musk has since deleted some posts critical of Trump, including one signalling support for impeaching the president. He also deleted a post in which he claimed without evidence that the government wasn't releasing more information regarding what it knows about Jeffrey Epstein because of Trump's past association with the infamous alleged sex trafficker who died in jail in 2019.
"I regret some of my posts about President Donald Trump last week. They went too far," Musk wrote in a post on his social media platform X on Wednesday, without saying which specific posts he was talking about.
Tesla shares rose 2.3 per cent in pre-market trading.
Don't support Democrats, Trump warns
Declaring his relationship with Musk over during interviews last weekend, Trump said there would be "serious consequences" if the billionaire decided to fund U.S. Democrats running against Republicans who vote for the tax and spending bill. Trump also said he had no intention of repairing ties with Musk.
On Monday, Trump said he would not have a problem if Musk called and that he had no plans to discontinue the Starlink satellite internet provided to the White House by Musk's SpaceX but might move his Tesla off-site.
"We had a good relationship, and I just wish him well," Trump said. Musk responded with a heart emoji to a video on X showing Trump's remarks.

In 2018, Musk declared in a Twitter post that he was "not a conservative" and that "humanitarian issues are extremely important to me."
But his political views changed, and in 2024 he bankrolled a large part of Trump's 2024 presidential campaign, spending nearly $300 million US in last year's U.S. elections, taking credit for Republicans retaining a majority of seats in the House and retaking a majority in the Senate.
Musk led downsizing, foreign aid cut efforts
Trump then named him to head an effort to downsize the federal workforce and slash spending, despite Musk's apparent conflicts of interest leading several companies subject to government regulation. Musk individually or with his companies had faced inquiries into alleged securities violations, questions over the safety of Tesla's Autopilot and Full Self-Driving (FSD) systems, potential animal welfare violations in Neuralink's brain-chip experiments and alleged hiring discrimination practices at SpaceX.
Musk left the role late last month after criticizing Trump's marquee tax bill, calling it too expensive and a measure that would undermine his work at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Musk's DOGE, not a Congress-approved department, took dramatic steps to reshape and shrink the federal government. Agencies were dismantled, and thousands of federal workers were fired, dismissed or reassigned, leading to a spate of lawsuits challenging the moves.
As a result of the moves, significant foreign humanitarian aid from the U.S. government was scaled back, leading to concerns from global health organizations. Musk characterized much of that funding as fraudulent, though Democrats charged that Musk statements on specific agency initiatives have largely only highlighted actions he disagrees with politically, such as measures to provide condoms to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS.
Musk's activities led to protests at many Tesla dealerships across North America, with vandalism reported in some instances.
"Elon Musk's Legacy Is Disease, Starvation and Death," New York Times columnist Michelle Goldberg wrote, citing the impacts around the world of cuts to the United States Agency for International Development, when Musk announced late last month he was returning to the private sector full-time.
Democrats have expressed alarm at members of Musk's DOGE team, who were not confirmed by Congress, having access to sensitive governmental, personal and payment data related to the federal civil service.

3 GARP Stocks That Investors Can Scoop Up for Maximum Returns
Growth at a reasonable price, or GARP, is an excellent strategy to earn quick investment profits. The GARP approach helps identify stocks priced below the market or any suitable target determined by a fundamental analysis. The strategy helps investors gain exposure to stocks with impressive prospects and trading at a discount. GARP stocks have solid prospects in terms of cash flow, revenues, earnings per share (EPS) and other metrics. A portfolio based on the GARP strategy comprises stocks that offer the best value and growth investment. Sprouts Farmers Market SFM, Howmet Aerospace HWM and Arista Networks ANET are some promising GARP stocks. GARP Metrics — Mix of Growth & Value Metrics The GARP strategy offers ideal investment options utilizing the best value and growth investing features. Investors adopting the GARP approach prefer stocks priced below the market or any reasonable target determined by fundamental analysis. The stocks have solid prospects based on cash flow, revenues, EPS, etc. Growth Metrics A strong earnings growth history and impressive earnings prospects are the primary concepts that GARP investors borrow from the growth investing strategy. However, instead of super-normal rates, pursuing stocks with a more stable and reasonable growth rate is a tactic of GARP investors. The GARP strategy considers growth rates between 10% and 20% ideal. Another metric considered by growth and GARP investors is return on equity (ROE). GARP investors look for strong and higher ROE than the industry average to identify superior stocks. Moreover, stocks with a positive cash flow find precedence under the GARP plan. Value Metrics GARP investing prioritizes one of the popular value metrics — the price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio. The investing style picks stocks with higher P/E ratios than value investors but it avoids companies with extremely high P/E ratios. The price-to-book value (P/B) ratio is also taken into consideration. Using the GARP principle, we have run a screen to identify stocks that should offer solid returns in the near term. Screening Parameters Along with the criteria discussed in the above section, we have considered a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy) or 2 (Buy). You can see the complete list of today's Zacks #1 Rank stocks here. Last five-year EPS & projected 3-5-year EPS growth rates between 10% and 25% (Strong EPS growth history and prospects ensure improving business.) ROE (in the past 12 months) greater than the industry average (Higher ROE than the industry average indicates superior stocks.) P/E and P/B ratios are less than the M-industry average (P/E and P/B ratios less than the industry indicate that the stocks are undervalued.) Canada-U.S. talks on economic and security deal intensify: sources
Prime Minister Mark Carney and U.S. President Donald Trump meet in the White House in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, May 6, 2025. THE CANADIAN PRESS/Adrian Wyld The U.S. and Canada have intensified talks for an economic and security deal in recent weeks — with a framework for such an arrangement trading hands between the two parties — sources tell CTV News. Sources who spoke to CTV News on the condition of anonymity all universally cautioned the finalizing of such a deal requires sign-off directly from U.S. President Donald Trump, and there are no explicit assurances that will happen on a certain timeline. A senior government source, speaking on background, also confirmed that documents are going back and forth between Canadian and American sides of the negotiating table, but would not confirm the documents' contents. The source described it as 'part of a normal negotiation,' adding the government 'will not negotiate in public.' Sources say there has been substantial progress on a deal, but that Trump's own mercurial nature, plus recent domestic pressures — such as the protests in Los Angeles, Calif. and the president's feud with billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk — are making any certainty around a timeline even more unpredictable. The U.S. and Canada have been embroiled in a trade war since February, when the president began implementing a series of tariffs on Canadian goods. Prime Minister Mark Carney has frequently said in response to Trump's levies that the decades-old Canada-U.S. relationship is 'over,' but that a new economic and security relationship between the two countries remains possible. Speaking to reporters on his way into a caucus meeting Wednesday morning, Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne said the talks are a 'very dynamic situation,' adding he would defer to the prime minister and the minister responsible for Canada-U.S. trade. 'We're all on the same page. We're fighting for Canada, we're fighting for industry, making sure that they understand that this is damaging on both sides of the border,' Champagne said. Last week, Industry Minister Melanie Joly confirmed Carney and Trump have been in direct talks in recent weeks, with readouts of those calls not being made public. Meanwhile, during a fireside chat hosted at the Canadian Club of Ottawa on Wednesday, U.S. Ambassador to Canada Pete Hoekstra said that 'all the indications are that we could move to a very positive agreement.' 'Let's see what's in here, because there's also the possibility you could end up with something like no deal or whatever,' Hoekstra said. 'That wouldn't be ideal, but until a deal is announced, you really won't know what's in it, and you won't know that it's finalized.' Hoekstra, who attended the luncheon following Carney's visit to Washington last month, also said the two leaders are 'in a hurry to get things done,' adding 'the pace is unprecedented.' 'Premature to break out the champagne': Bolton Former U.S. National Security Advisor John Bolton said in an interview on CTV Power Play with Vassy Kapelos on Tuesday that he too has heard of increased speculation of an imminent deal, but cautioned 'there could still be a long way to go.' 'I think that is a risk,' Bolton said, when asked whether a deal in the traditional sense is possible with Trump, considering the president's tariffs contravene the existing trade pact he signed during his first term. 'I think what Trump wants more than anything else is to be able to announce that he's got a deal that solves the problem. Now, whether it does or not is, is anybody's guess.' 'I think it's premature, based on the speculation to break out the champagne,' Bolton also said. Carney announced Monday that he plans to boost spending to finally meet the NATO target of spending two per cent of GDP on defence this year. That's later than Canada first signed onto the target more than a decade ago, but five years earlier than Carney committed to during the election. 'It's probably worth what you paid for it,' Bolton told Kapelos. 'It is a sore point for many Americans, not just Donald Trump, that going back to (former U.S. president) Barack Obama, who called NATO allies who didn't hit the two per cent target 'free riders.'' 'And if that's part of the deal, I could see that coming,' added Bolton, who served as National Security Advisor from 2018-2019, during Trump's first term as president. Amazon Nuclear Deal Helps Fuel 8% Leap in Talen Energy Stock (TLN)
Shares in U.S. utility group Talen Energy (TLN) powered higher today as it went nuclear with tech giant Amazon (AMZN). Confident Investing Starts Here: Energy Boost Talen, whose stock zoomed up 8%, said it had expanded its nuclear energy partnership with Amazon to supply up to 1,920 megawatts of electricity from its Susquehanna plant in Pennsylvania to Amazon Web Services (AWS) data centers. The deal, which will last until 2042, is a huge boost to Talen as it means steady, long-term revenue, and for Amazon, which is looking to meet growing demand for fossil fuel-free energy to keep its AI and cloud operations on track. As part of the partnership, both companies will also look at building new Small Modular Reactors and expanding the nuclear plant's energy output. Amazon's share price was flat in early trading, though the partnership extension seems to allay some fears over the availability of clean electricity. Supply Squeeze Demand for electricity is growing in the U.S., driven by the growth in data centers and artificial intelligence, with supply potentially being squeezed by the crackdown in subsidies for renewable energy development under President Trump. As such, U.S. tech firms are scrambling around to find new or larger sources of energy to keep the AI fires burning. Nuclear power group Constellation Energy (CEG) recently signed a 20-year power purchase agreement with Meta Platforms (META) to deliver 1.1 gigawatts from its Clinton Clean Energy Center in Illinois, starting in 2027. Back in May, Element Power announced a partnership with tech giant Google (GOOGL) to develop three advanced nuclear reactor sites. Last October, it agreed to buy energy from Kairos Power's small modular reactors, with the first expected to be running by 2030. Anthropic's co-founder, Jack Clark, recently estimated that 50 gigawatts of new power (about the size of 50 nuclear plants) will be needed by 2027 to support AI development.
